Running News

April 27, 2011

I have some good running news and some bad running news to share. You ready for it?

Good news: I ran 5 miles in my new sneakers with almost zero pain! Hooray!

I did a 5-mile Tempo Run outside, which included a mile warm-up, three miles at 8:39 pace, and a mile cool down:

  • Mile 1: 9:22
  • Mile 2: 8:36
  • Mile 3: 8:36
  • Mile 4: 8:45
  • Mile 5: 9:41

After running three miles at 8:39 pace, I was totally spent. The final mile of my run was especially tough– I even stopped to walk for a little bit. Even still, it was a good workout. I’m just happy to be running again!

Ok, ready for the bad news?

Wah. I’m bummed that I wasn’t selected for the New York City Marathon, but, at the same time, I’m sort of relieved. I’m not sure that I’m ready to run another marathon quite yet. But, we’ll see. Never say never!

Lunch

After my run, I whipped up a Banana-Strawberry smoothie. Also in the mix: almond milk, sunflower butter, vanilla protein powder, and ground flaxseed meal.

P.S. Don’t be jealous of our dirt backyard. Looks good, doesn’t it?

While sipping my smoothie, I got busy in the kitchen making brownies for a family dinner at my sister’s house this evening. I made a complete mess of the kitchen, but it was worth it in the end.

I made my Brownies with a Secret recipe from my book!

Once they finished baking, I sampled two. So delicious!

Awesome job with the 5 miler – if you keep it up I am sure you will be running it next year! You are getting faster everyday :)

You’re hitting so many amazing running goals yourself, you don’t need any big organisation to validate your success anyway :D

Glad you were nearly pain free today! Question for whenever you get a chance–how do you stay on pace when you do a tempo run outside? I feel like I would be constantly looking at my watch trying to figure out if I was at the right pace. Would love to know your tips! Thanks! :)

I keep trying to check if I got selected for the marathon, but just get a page saying that my profile won’t be accessible until tomorrow morning at 10am!? Not quite sure if I want to get in or not… In any case, I have a five-mile tempo run tomorrow & hoping to keep to a 9.5 min mile pace. I admire your speed!

Caroline @ French Ponytail April 27, 2011 at 10:59 pm

Just figured it out – I didn’t get selected either :( Boo.

Sorry to hear about the marathon! But you are so lucky you’re at the point in your running career where you can even consider such an incredibly challenging race. You have done so many great races lately, that’s something to be proud of :)

Sucks about the marathon. You should have called them and just said ‘don’t you know who I am?!’ haha. Awesome new shirts too!

Di April 28, 2011 at 8:14 am

Sorry about the marathon but it sounds like you had a great run! You’re convincing me that maybe my knee pain has a little to do with my sneakers and maybe a new pair ASAP is a really good idea. :)

LOVE the Will Run For Beer shirt. :)

Sucks about the marathon. :( How ’bout some good news? Ordering your book today! Was at B&N the other night and looked for it but didn’t see it. If I was the Carrots ‘n Cake book, where would you shelve me? (Asks the librarian!)
