Ohmigod, Shorts that Fit

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

I’m back at it! I spoke to my running coach yesterday and he set me up with another week’s worth of workouts. Now that I’m feeling better, he wants me to get right back into training, so he has me running five day this week! Yowsahs!

  • Tuesday: 4 miles
  • Wednesday: 2 miles
  • Thursday: 5 miles
  • Friday: 4 miles
  • Saturday: 7 miles

I was kind of bored with my running music this morning, so I grabbed Mal’s iPod and took it with me on my run. His selection has a lot more rock and classic rock than mine, so it was a nice change of pace, which made those two miles fly by. Although, I still like my running mix better!

After my run, I stretched and foamed rolled and then sat around in my sweaty workout clothes for a couple of hours before taking a shower. (I’m gross like that.) Then, I made a delicious pizza lunch.

I spread Laughing Cow Cheese on a Glutino pizza crust and topped it with TJ’s bruschetta and a broken up Dr. Praeger’s Sweet Potato Pancake. Mmm! I loved all of the different flavors and textures. I also drank a Half & Half with lunch.

After lunch, I went grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s, but then I got distracted by Old Navy. Until this afternoon, I only owned one pair of shorts, so my recent mission was to find shorts that actually fit and don’t look totally stupid on me. For some reason, it just hasn’t been easy to find any (#whitegirlproblems).

The other day, my friend, Erin, told me that she had luck with the shorts at Old Navy, so I popped in to see what I could find.

After seeing this photo of me, I decided that Bermuda shorts are just not flattering on me, so I looked for shorter options, but not too short. Super short shorts make me nuts.

It didn’t take me long to find a pair that I liked. The Perfect 5” Shorts are where it’s at!!!

Ohmigod, shorts that fit!! I still can’t believe it!

The Perfect 5” Shorts sit low on the hips, but they’re long enough that I don’t have to worry about them riding up. They’re fitted through the hip and thigh and have a little bit of stretch to them. They’re comfy and pretty flattering. I’m a big fan!

I ended up buying two pairs in Truffle Brown and Alpine Tundra.

And, of course, I never shop without coupons, so I ended up getting these babies for free by using a coupon and a gift card from Christmas. Sweet.

What do you think of shorts? Love ’em? Hate ’em? What style do you like best?

When I returned home, I snacked on a couple of pieces of toasted gluten-free bread with almond butter and banana slices. It was a perfectly delicious and satisfying snack. Yep, it was.

Getting together with friends for Trivia tonight! See ya!

P.S. My Teddie Peanut Butter deal with OpenSky kicks off tomorrow! I am SO excited! Make sure you are following me so you get the deal! It’s a GREAT one, and I know you want some Teddie in your life!

  1. I used to hate shorts. Then I moved to Cali last August, where everyone and anyone wears shorts, and so I got over my hate — and now they dominate my closet. I am not even self conscious about it anymore because EVERYONE is wearing them.

    1. @Elise:
Elisa – I am in the same boat! Recently relocated to California and had to learn to love shorts! I was always self conscious about showing off my legs, but everyone here does, so I got over it!

  2. It’s not you…I personally don’t think that bermuda shorts are flattering on anyone! They would make even Cameron Diaz look stumpy!

  3. I love the shorts! Not too long, not too short.

I get all my shorts from the JCrew outlet. They have a city chino short that’s 3″ (I have short legs) and they fit perfectly. I always order a size up, so they don’t huge my thighs though and then tend to fall lower on my hips. But I’m with you though, bermuda’s don’t flatter my short legs unless I’m wearing wedges.

  4. I agree shorts are super hard to find. Everything feels like it’s made for a 5 year old and I am not young enough to be walking around with all my stuff hanging out! haha yours are cute!

  5. Love those shorts!! I love that they are longer, too! Have you seen their running shorts? They were on sale for $10 last week and are now my favorite running shorts! I think they are normally $15, still much cheaper than other running shorts I have purchased.

  6. I love old navy shorts (cheap) shorts are the way to go. living in the south lots or shorts are a must. I have long legs so the teeny tiny booty shorts girls wear now just dont cut it for me. I like the 5″, too!

  7. I too love these shorts and thank goodness that they keep making them. I have them in about 5 different colors and am wearing a pair right now.

  8. I am always looking for shorts that fit properly… ones that aren’t too short but aren’t so long that I look like a grandma. 😉 So thanks for the suggestion… I have no idea where an Old Navy is around here, but I’ll have to do a search!

And I love that you admitted to sitting around in workout clothes til lunch, because I do that way too often, especially when my husband (and all other human beings) aren’t around! 🙂

  9. OMG, thanks for the shorts tip! I have also to come to realize this week that I own no shorts anymore and desperately need a couple of pairs! I’ll definitely be heading to ON.

  10. I love shorts in the summer but hate short shorts! But if I had to choose between summer dresses and shorts I would choose dresses all the way. They are just so comfortable!

  11. Haha total white girl problems!

Admittedly, I usually wear short-shorts rather than bermudas. For whatever reason, they fit me better and are more comfortable to wear.

Ironically, I was actually kinda envious of your ability to rock the bermudas. I didn’t even give that picture a second thought until you mentioned it, and still, they don’t look bad to me. It’s funny how a judgement of appearance can completely vary from person to person 🙂

  12. Cute shorts!

I am a fan of elastic waist cargo shorts that I get at stores like F21 or Charlotte Ruesse. I dont want to spend more than $20 bucks on so little fabric..lol

I also have Old Navy shorts (not fitted ones, but just for lounging around the house)

I buy whatever is cute and cheap 🙂 But always go back to these ones I got at Charlotte Ruesse like 3 summers ago.

    Great finds$$ You look great!

  13. Nooooo!!! I always hear that people find great, cheap clothes at Old Navy. Once I show up everything has gone to crap and I wonder how the entire world keeps up with this joke on me.

    It continues.

  14. Living in FL, everyone wears shorts — even older folks. I’ve been wearing the Perfect Shorts 5″ length for years. I just stocked up a couple of weeks ago when they were $12.50. I think the length is just right — I’m your height w/ short, muscular legs.

  15. Ugh, I HATE shopping for shorts – almost as much as I hate shopping for jeans! It’s so hard to find shorts that are just long enough and still make your butt look good.

Those shorts look great on you. I had luck this year at a J. Crew outlet, but my favorite pair is still one I found at Anthropologie last year.

  16. Those shorts look great! I love Old Navy shorts. Although, I have a pair of jean shorts where the buttons in the middle are way off center. Meh, they still fit! 🙂

  17. I love snagging other’s playlists for runs. If I create my own I often A. don’t like the selection B. get bored because I know what’s coming. I rely a lot on Pandora on my iPhone to get my through my workouts!

  18. I have been loving Express shorts but only because they are one of the only nicer stores that carries a size I can wear and they actually look good! Old Navy tends to run big on me but I do own a few pairs from there and really love how soft and comfortable they are.

  19. “then sat around in my sweaty workout clothes for a couple of hours before taking a shower. (I’m gross like that.)” – okay, anyone who says they’re NOT like that is a total liar! 🙂

I love shorts in the summer time but I HATE when they’re too short. I need new ones!

  20. I’ll have to try those shorts! I can never seem to find any that look just right. It’s like they shrink in the wash after the first wash or they get too baggy after the first wear.

  21. I knew Banana Republic and Old Navy had the same parent company, but didn’t realize they’d take each other’s coupons! Huh! Learn something new every day.

  22. I work at Old Navy!! Those shorts look great on you. I’m glad you were able to find ones that worked for you. I know that isn’t easy!

  23. I LOVE those shorts too! I got them a year or so ago, so now they are a little big – but I still wear them all the time! So cute!

  24. I never like shorts on myself. They’re either too big/wide and long or too short & ride up. I prefer pedal pusher length pants (just below the knee).
