Good morning!
I’m a little bit behind on my magazine reading, but the other day, I read a Katie Couric interview with Ellen DeGeneres in Glamour (March 2010). Reading Ellen’s interview made me like her even more– and I’m already pretty obsessed. She’s definitely my life role model. Ellen is so positive, upbeat, and such a kind person. My goal for 2011 is to see her show live!
Here are a few things that Ellen said in the interview that I especially loved:
KC: What advice she would give to young women?
ED: Find out who you are and be that person. That’s what your soul was put on this earth to be. Find that truth, live that truth, and everything else will come.
KC: Does it bother you that women are so obsessed with their bodies?
ED: Yeah. We put the wrong emphasis on what beauty is and what health is. Heath is being vibrant and having energy and being happy.
That Ellen is a wise woman!! Do you see why I love her so much? I can only imagine how fun it would be to hang out with her! Maybe my goal for 2011 should be to meet her in person?!? 😉
I also love Michelle Obama. She’s so strong, yet classy, and, of course, so intelligent! She’s already had a wonderful impact on our country.
Breakfast
Yuuuummm! I had a really tasty breakfast this morning: an egg white omelet with pesto, asparagus, and mozzarella. Doesn’t that just sound delicious!?
Key ingredients: Mezzetta Napa Valley Bistro Pesto + steamed asparagus.
I added my omelet to a bed of spring mix, which made breakfast seem sort of fancy!
I also enjoyed a glass of iced coffee with vanilla soy milk.
Busy Friday ahead! Better get crackin’!

I love Ellen, too! She’s an awesome role model. So sweet, funny, generous, and overall amazing.
Though I’m not a huge fan of her show (I don’t really watch talk shows), but I do love Ellen. I think it’s wonderful that she is herself and has spread tolerance in her own positive widespread way. Michelle Obama is another wonderful role model for women to have. I think both of them show that there is more to being a woman than having a trim waist and pushing strollers. You can be a leader, smart, healthy, educated, etc.
Your omelet looks incredible! I need to get some pesto sauce for this dish alone!
I love Ellen! My role model is my dad. He’s amazing.
Two VERY good role models!! 🙂
I love Ellen too. I don’t really have a life role model, but there are not a ton of celebrities I like an Ellen is VERY high up on my celebrity role model list! She’s just so confident and happy!
I love that Michelle Obama is a wonderful mother and she cares about their health and the health of the nation.
i don’t have a life role model but i do admire a lot of strong women!
Your breakfast looks amazing! I agree that Michelle Obama is setting a great example. I hope she’s able to accomplish a great deal!
Not sure why you and several other nutrition-blog writers have lately decidd to leap into the political realm. It is disappointing and unnecessary.
Jillian Michaels. She puts so much emphasis on being healthy and strong and living a healthy lifestyle, not being skinny and doing whatever you can to be a waif. She tries to change the way society sees food and and exercise and makes you push yourself on the DVD’s
@Elizabeth:
Tina has “leapt into the political realm” by claiming Michelle Obama as a role model? That seems like a slight overreaction =/
That’s a great nutrient filled breakfast.
@Lauren @ Running Examiner: LOL! I know, right? Those 2 sentences that I wrote are SO political!
I never really liked Ellen until I saw her on American Idol, now I really like her! Your lunch looks yummy, hope you have an amazing weekend! 🙂
My sis went to a taping of Ellen’s show last year. She said it was quite a production, including how staged the audience seating was. She was following the seating, going to the middle of the row, and they pulled her out to sit on the aisle seat. She is attractive and animated, and was put in a seat where the camera panned many times. As for life role models, I would have to say my mother and my MIL, both who had successful careers (microbiologist and teacher) when women didn’t have careers, and raised families (my MIL as a widow w/ two children). They are 85 and 87, are still active and involved in their communities despite many hardships along the way. They didn’t let life’s roadblocks stop them.
Amen to Ellen, she is an amazing woman. I loved her interview in O Magazine too!
Yes!! I love Ellen so much, I watch her show whenever I’m home for it, none of my friends “get it” haha. My other role model would be Hillary Clinton.
I share your admiration for these two women. They are smart, ambitious, caring, independent and lovely.
i dont want to sound cheesy but i really admire you, caitlin, and jenna. you guys are great healthy living role models who may not be perfect but you are HONEST. BTW I heart ellen too!
My life role model is for sure my mom. Most amazing woman ever and been through so much in her life. LOOOVVVVEEEE my mommy.
I love Ellen, too. I went to her show twice a couple years ago (2006). The first time we only made it to the Riff Raff room. It was so fun.
Second time a few months later my mom, SIL, and I got in and it was AWESOME! Ellen is great. The show was so fun Her guests were Nick Lachey and Ron Howard and the cast from Happy Days.. Go, go, go. I would LOVE to go again sometime..
Tina I am so glad you are a strong Boston Liberal! I was born in San Francisco and live in Northern CA, and that’s how we roll here 🙂 I’m a Leftie-go Obama and go Dems! 🙂
