We Did A Lot of Nothing This Weekend + New Goals

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

Good morning and happy Monday, friends!

Did you have a fabulous weekend? We had the most low-key weekend ever. We basically didn’t do anything, except for a few small house projects and a trip to the gym, but it was still a nice weekend. I think we all needed the downtime. Anyway, here are a few weekend highlights!

I made us a tasting plate to share– Quinn surprisingly liked the roasted garlic. He’s the pickiest eater ever, so we were pumped that he even tried it. Mal and I also enjoyed some wine while Quinn drank a smoothie– thank goodness he likes them. Otherwise, he’d hardly get any nutrients in his diet!

And then we played and acted silly before bath time, books, and bed.

Sunday morning, we hit up the gym for a workout. I ran on the treadmill while Quinn played in “Toddler Town.” Then, we played basketball for awhile before heading home.

I also got the items in the back of my car framed! Hooray! Little victories.

I framed a print of Fenway Park from my mother-in-law as well as my marathon map print.

And some art work that Quinn made. (I went with the blue matting.) I’m so glad I finally got this stuff framed. It was on my To Do list for weeeeeeeks!

Which brings me to…

New Week, New Goals

A new week means NEW GOALS! But, first, let’s review how I did with last week’s goals.


Limit snacks to one per day – I did a better job this week, but I’m going to add it again to my goals for next week. More meals, fewer snacks.

Try a new recipe – Yep! Three of them!

Get things framed – Yep! They’ll be done next Saturday. Yay!

Get my inbox below 100 emails – Uh, not even close. I think I got my inbox down to 110 or so, but it’s back up in the 200s again. Boo.


Attend at least two CrossFit classes – I have a busy week ahead, so I’m really going to try to get to two classes.

Pick a Spring half marathon – I have a few in mind, but want to get one on my calendar, so I know when to start my training.

Order turkey for Friendsgiving – We’re hosting this year!

Limit snacks to one per day – Trying again this week!

Hang pictures in our bedroom – They’ve sat on the floor of our bedroom for at least a month now.

Question of the Day

On a scale of 1-10 (10 being super busy), how busy was your weekend? 



  1. Kid’s taste buds amaze me. That’s hilarious Quinn liked the garlic. My son is a big fan of smoothies, too. I love the marathon print and Q’s artwork. Printing photos is on my to-do list!

  2. My son totally digs roasted garlic, but we’re very lucky to have a not very picky eater (knock on wood) I’ve found what helps is definitely eating at the same time and offering him some off of my plate, even if it’s the same.exact.thing. I already gave him.

  3. I’ll go with 6! Worked all day Saturday, cinema friend date Saturday night and then family time yesterday, food prep, strength and conditioning class and an early night! I need to order my Turkey for Christmas actually!! To get an organic one here you have to order super early! You having many over for Thanksgiving dinner?

  4. This weekend I did the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon with a friend! It was a blast, but also kinda crazy since we had a weather evacuation during the corral line up and they ended up cutting the race down to 7 miles due to the delay. It was still a great time though!

  5. How awesome is Quinn’s artwork? I see a career of abstract painting in his future!

    As per usual these days, I’m not sure where the weekend went! It was a busy one. But a couple of appointments have been cancelled this week so I’m *hoping* to finally get completely caught up on work 🙂

  6. Hi Tina! I love that even though you stayed in, you still made such a fancy tasting plate. Sometimes that can make all the difference with setting the tone for the night! Also, I love that you share your goals on your blog. It is nice to see that not all goals are met…which is kind of the point. We are all human. Reflect and do better next time. This is a lesson that I need to learn myself.

  7. 10! We had our little guys first birthday party yesterday! It was a success but I was crazy running around getting things done up until the last minute! Plus I’ve been fighting a cold for the past 5 days and my voice decided to give out yesterday at the party! But overall we had a great, busy, fun weekend!

    p.s. I bought our birthday banners for the party from the etsy site (kate) that you used. They came out so well, she did such a wonderful job!

  8. Weekends with little or nothing planned rarely happens for us, so when it does, I enjoy every minute of it! We are currently building a house and I have two marathons coming up in the next 3 weeks, so its been kind of crazy recently! I love your marathon map print! That’s awesome!

  9. My weekend was overall relaxing as well! Ran a 5k yesterday- gorgeous day to be outside! Starting to train for a marathon so my weekends will become more busy going forward. I like your list of goals! Good job!

We had an unusually productive day yesterday: did 4 loads of laundry, vacuumed the house, grocery shopped for the week, prepped dinner & lunches for the week and cleaned the bathtub (<– my least favorite chore). It's always nice to start the week with clean underwear and something for lunch 🙂

    i am SO good at keeping my emails down! I have…. 41 total in All Mail, 14 in my inbox. My coworker has 12,000+ unread emails and seeing that icon on her phone gives me such anxiety hahaha

  12. I went to the CrossFit L1 Course this weekend in Seattle! It was awesome. I didn’t think I would learn so much about the basics of CrossFit, but I learned a ton. Highly recommended for readers who love CrossFit (I know you did yours a while back!).

  13. I love low-key weekends like that. Those are truly the best in my opinion! Sometimes weekdays can get so busy and stressful. A day in which you do absolutely nothing can sometimes be the most memorable! I love that Fenway Park print you got for your mother- where did you get it? My parents actually met at a Padres game so they’d love something similar for Qualcomm!

  14. It was half and half…it was a rainy Saturday morning which is always good for cleaning up or just vegging out on the couch. Sunday was an all afternoon birthday/anniversary family dinner event that leaves me exhausted but super energetic. Weird combo. A perfect mix weekend!

  16. What…only one snack?? I feel like you should get two. Especially on days you workout. The stretch been meals can just be too much to deal.
