Want to Run the Chicago Marathon or New York City Marathon?

Good morning, friends!

Do you want to run the Chicago or New York City Marathon this year, but, unfortunately, didn’t get into the lottery? Well, don’t you fret. There’s a way that you can still run either of these sold out races. Any first-timer marathoners out there? Yes? Both of these marathons are great for first-timers, too! That’s why I’m excited to let all you runners out there know about an opportunity to join Action for Healthy Kids in the movement to create healthier schools and students. If you want to run the Chicago or New York City Marathon in 2016, you can make your miles go further as a member of Team Healthy Kids!

Action for Healthy Kids is a nationwide grassroots network mobilizing school professionals, parents and communities in support of school-based nutrition and physical activity programs that lead to healthier schools where kids are healthy, active and better prepared to learn. Evidence shows that when kids are physically active and eat nutritious foods – especially when incorporated into the school day – they not only learn lifelong healthy habits, but are also more focused in class, show improved attendance and classroom behavior, and demonstrate increased cognition and test scores. Action for Healthy Kids talks all about this in The Learning Connection.

Question of the Day

What’s your dream marathon that you hope to run someday?

  1. I would love to say I ran the Boston marathon but to be honest I’m not a fan of the unpredictable weather. That is why I ended up flying cross country and running a marathon in San Diego, the weather was peeeerfect! And the run started at 7am so I was done before lunch!

My dream race right now is actually the Falmouth road race. It’s only 7 miles but I LOVE Cape Cod and 7 miles sounds like the perfect distance. I actually talked to my husband the other night about registering and if I got picked from the lottery would he be down for staying over night with me – which he was! So we shall see!

      1. @Tina: Oh I love reading that! Makes me even more anxious about getting picked for this years race! What makes it one of your very favorites?

  2. This is such a great cause and a great way to get a place in the marathon. I wonder if anyone will sign up for both?! My dream marathon would be London – such a great atmosphere. It’s happening this weekend and I am hoping to run it next year.

  3. Thanks for the post, Tina. I actually contacted them and looks like I should be doing Chicago!! This will be my first marathon, I’m terrified and totally pumped 🙂 Thanks!!

  4. I ran with Team Healthy Kids in 2013 in Chicago and LOVE THEM!!! They were so supportive and it was a blast and running with Dean Karnazes! Boston is my dream. I would love to run with them if they ran in Boston. 🙂

    1. Have done Boston and being from pancake flat Chicago it was rough,I was totally unprepared for the hills 🙂

Is there a way to fundraise without an entry? I’m already in Chicago as a guaranteed entry. As a parent this seems like a great charity…..
