Good morning, friends! Happy Friday!
Mal and I got home from Savannah last night. It was such a nice trip, and I plan to tell you guys all about it a little later todayโโI just need to finish up my blog post!
On our travels home, I saw this adorable magnet at one of the airport convenience stores. I just had to snap a photo.ย It’s so true, right?
Mal and I landed in Boston right in the middle of rush hour, so we decided to take the T to Braintree and then take a taxi the rest of the way to our house. We thought we were being so smart by avoiding rushing hour traffic on 93, but it took us FOREVER to get home. First, our sliver line bus got stuck behind a disabled bus for a good 20-25 minutes and then we waited for awhile at South Station for a Braintree train. When we finally made it to Braintree, all of the taxi drivers claimed they didn’t have credit card machines, and Mal and I were pretty low on cash, so it took us a little while to find one who would take us home. It all worked out in the end, but it was more of a headache than it needed to be. It seriously took us about 1.5 hours to get home. Grrr.
As soon as we arrived at our house, I hopped in my car and went to pick up my favorite furry friend from the โdog spa.โย Once I saw Murphy‘s happy pug face, everything was better.
Breakfast
I woke up bright and early this morning and ready to eat! I ate a really early dinner last nightโโwe’re talking early bird specialโโso my stomach was grumbling like crazy.
I wanted to eat something ASAP, so I toasted a couple of waffles and spread almond butter and apricot jelly on top with some sliced almonds.
I knew I’d wanted something more to eat than waffles. Basically, I needed more protein in my breakfast if it had any chance of holding me over until lunchtime, so nuked some frozen fruit (strawberries, bananas, and peaches) and added it to some plain Greek yogurt.
All in all, it was a fabulous breakfast and very satisfying!

Now that we’re smack in the middle of the longest, coldest stretch of winter, I’m all about eating warm, creamy comfort foods. Honestly, if I had it my way, I’d eat everything covered in melted cheese or butter. But, of course, I know this isn’t the healthiest option, especially because the extra calories and fat will likely pack on the pounds come springtime.
Instead of missing out on my favorite seasonal dishes, I satisfy my comfort-food cravings by making healthy swaps in my meals. Here are some lower-calorie versions of my favorite comfort foods.
