I have some exciting news to share with you guys! On June 1, 2013, I’m running the ZOOMA Annapolis Half Marathon & 10K with the ZOOMA race series!
Never heard of ZOOMA? It’s an all-women’s race series that puts on boutique (aka “fancy”) events in various destinations around the country with a fun girls’ weekend in mind. Basically, a running vacation with your girlfriends. Rumor has it that their post-race celebrations typically include champagne, massages, jewelry, and cupcakes. Umm… sign me up!
In addition to running the race in Annapolis, I’ll be part of a panel of national bloggers to help advise ZOOMA with their goal of hosting events that cater to the real needs and wants of female runners. If you have something you’d like to see at one of their races, feel free to leave a comment on this post. I’ll be sure to let the ZOOMA folks know!
ZOOMA has 5 upcoming race events already on their calendar and they’re gearing up to unveil another exciting race location. Where do you think they’ll go next? Submit a race location guess here for a chance to win a swag bag from ZOOMA’s mystery location!
I’m so honored and excited to be part of the ZOOMA series and working with such amazing women. Plus, the Annapolis race sounds like such a blast! If you’re in the area and thinking about running the ZOOMA race, please let me know. We’re planning an meet up, and I’d love to meet ya!
Breakfast
We had a nearly-empty jar of peanut butter in the house (surprise, surprise), so I used it to make “Oatmeal” Minus the Oats in a Jar.
In the mix:
- 2 tbsp ground flaxseed
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 banana, mashed
- 3/4 cup liquid egg whites
- 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Snack
I guess my breakfast didn’t hold me over very well because, just a couple of hours later, I got hungry again, so I ate a Greek yogurt with chopped apple, sliced almonds, and raisins.
Lunch
I wasn’t super hungry when lunch rolled around, but I ate something because I knew there was no way I could make it until dinnertime without eating. I had a turkey wrap with grainy mustard and pickles inside.
Question of the Day
What’s the coolest amenity/bonus/swag you’ve ever seen at a race? What amenity/bonus/swag would you like to see at a race?

I’d love to do the Annapolis race. It’s close to home and it would be great to meet you!
I think the coolest swag I’ve gotten was a free Nalgene water bottle!! Otherwise it’s just plain ole bananas 🙂
My guess is that the next location will be on the west coast — perhaps San Diego???
I live in southern Maryland and LOVE Annapolis! Definitely hit up down town Annapolis by the Naval Academy! It’s so nice, and there’s some great little shops, restaurants and frozen yogurt/ice cream places there too!
I ran the ZOOMA Annapolis race last year! Annapolis is amazing – you will love it!
That race sounds fun! I love the boutique-y vibe it has. It reminds me of the race I did a couple months ago: Run Like a Diva Half Marathon (and 5k). 97% females and 3% men who were more feminine than most women participating!
I ran this race this year and it was so much fun! I will definitely be running it again next year and would love to meet up!
The 2011 Zooma Half was the first race I had ever run, and I’ve had the running bug since then! It’s so much fun! Annapolis is one of the prettiest towns, any time of year. I’m planning on running next year’s half!
YAY!!! I’m from Annapolis & so excited to hear you’ll be running this race!! I’d love to meet up with you at the meet up while you’re in town!! Heck, maybe I’ll start training and run the race too, maybe my running buds who have run this race before will help keep me motivated (and my past injuries won’t act up!)!!!!
I ran the Zooma Annapolis half marathon a few years ago and it was THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. The race organizers bungled the parking situation so badly that traffic was backed up for miles behind the parking lot. When my friends and I finally neared the lot, we were directed by a Zooma official INTO THE COURSE OF THE RACE. It was absurd- runners were streaming by our car as we could do nothing. Despite leaving our nearby hotel with plenty of time, we missed the start of the race by a good half hour. The worst part was, Zooma sent a follow-up email after the race with an apology…and a measly 10% discount code for next year’s race. YEAH RIGHT, like I will ever participate in another Zooma event! Plus, the necklaces they gave out were so cheap they started rusting only a few months later 🙁
I think somewhere like Seattle or Vancouver would be a blast. The best swag I’ve ever gotten was a long sleeve tech tshirt. I’m hoping to do a race called the ‘Women Rock’ in Minneapolis in September. It is spendy, but the swag is pretty nice. Plus, firefighter are handing out medals. Count me in! I think useful things would be great like bic bands, Nalgene bottle, Nuun….
Eek, I’d LOVE to do that race! Annapolis is such a beautiful spot and pretty close to me in DC.
But you’re such a tease – registration isn’t open yet! 😉 I’ll have to keep my eye on it….
Not really “cool” but random – a piece of bread that was in that modified packaging so it literally was not going to go bad for like a year. Interesting. But creepy! The triathlon I did on Saturday gave out Advil and toothbrushes! Both necessities…so much appreciated!
I’ve run Zooma Annapolis the past 2 years and its been fabulous!! We really lucked out this year with the weather: we got a crisp, cool 65 degrees at the start…in June! A bit of advice: Annapolis is hilly. Other than that, its a great race. You’ll have so much fun!
Ahhhh I totally want to run this race now! Mostly because 1. I’ve been looking into doing a half marathon but have been too chicken to sign up and 2. It sounds like a ton of fun and 3. You’ll be in my area and I’d love to meet you in person. Hmmm….I should totally just sign up now before I can back out, right?
I love oats in a jar, so I will definitely have to give oatmeal, minus the oats in a jar a try!
Zooma Annapolis was my first 10K back in 2008 and it was a fantastic race experience! The course is challenging (the bridge is steeper than it looks!) but fun, and I thought the race “swag” was better than average. Enjoy!! 🙂
Sounds like a fun race. It’s nice to be pampered after falling forward (running) for 13.1 miles.
My favorite swag is sort of funny: At the Boulder Bolder 10k in 2010, they gave out cloth lunch bags that say “Got to Run” on the front and were filled with awesome stuff like Silk chocolate soymilk and Sunchips and a protein bar, etc. I still use my lunch bag almost every day, and it’s so nice to look at the little “Got to Run” logo and remember how much fun I had that day.
