Our little patient is feeling quite a bit better this morning. Yay! His eyes are still gross, but he’s acting a lot more like his old self.

I think he really enjoyed having his cone off for a little while last night. He seemed a lot more relaxed (he slept on my lap for most of the evening) and drank A TON of water. He drank almost three bowls in less than two hours, which makes me think the cone is preventing him from drinking properly. Poor guy. He was so thirsty.

Dinner

I kept dinner simple last night. I had a whole wheat wrap with ham, melted cheddar, and a little mayo.

Breakfast

Murphy and I went to bed super early last night and then woke up bright and early this morning. I’m running a 5K, so I made sure to get some food in my stomach a few hours before start time. I had a whole wheat wrap with almond butter and banana inside.

I also drank a glass of iced coffee with coconut-almond milk.

Ahhh! I can’t believe I’m running a race this morning. I don’t know why I’m so nervous for it. I’ve run races much longer than this one, but my stomach is a ball of nerves right now. Maybe it’s because I registered for it so last-minute? Usually, I sign up for races months and months before race day, so maybe I have more time to deal with/manage my nervousness? I don’t know, but I have some serious pre-race jitters this morning. Wish me luck!

  1. Poor Murphy! I hope he gets better quickly!!

    And I always have race jitters but only at the start line. Usually I know months in advance about my races though. I have a race tonight at 5 that is on the beach (7.5 out of the total 10 miles are on sand!). For this one, I only registered on Tuesday. We’ll see how I feel tonight!

  2. Good luck in your race! I always get the pre-race jitters!!! But when I finish I always go on a signing up for random races splurge because you feel so good and pumped when you are done 🙂

  3. When you say “coconut-almond” milk do you just mix them? And do you use real sugar too? I used to make the WORST iced coffee (and spent a lot of money ordering them!) until I found your post. I’m trying to perfect my “recipe” 🙂

    1. It’s coconut and almond milk made by Almond Breeze. It mixes better in iced coffee than regular almond milk. It’s also more delicious! I use sugar in my iced coffee unless I make a Peanut Butter Wonderful at home.

  4. A tip for the poor pug- make sure his bowl is raised to the point he can easily slip his cone around it and to the ground to drink. I’ve done that a hundred times at my old job and it seemed to do the trick. I usually used a brick.

  5. Good luck in your run today! You’ll do great! My hubby and I are running in the Color Run 5k this morning! Not nervous yet but always get a few jitters before the start of a race. Once we take off I’m good to go and I’m sure you will be too 🙂

  6. Good luck Tina! You are going to rock that race! You are going beat your time and feel so accomplished after wards. Poor murphy. For pre race jitters ( i always get them) I normally listen to pump up music or if my mom or dad is there I let them distract me with other topics! You go and rock it girl

  7. I always used to think that I would finish last in any race I did. It was a totally ridiculous thought since I often place in my age group! Just remember that your goal is to do the very best that you can do TODAY. Good Luck! (Stay hydrated…it’s super hot and humid this morning.)

  8. Perhaps you’re more nervous for this race than you have been for others because you have set the bar higher… Aren’t you trying for a sub 24:00?? The more potential I have to actually run a ‘serious’ race the more nervous I get too! Once you start running consistent sub 8’s the world of serious running suddenly becomes a reality. I just roll with the jitters, make sure to have my normal pb and banana pre-race, keep it familiar and simple, and embrace the energy! Good luck Tina I can’t wait for the re-cap!

    1. I think it was that too! I usually don’t set such specific goals for races. Usually, it’s just ‘run faster than last time.’

  9. I’ve totally been eating tortillas with AB and banana for breakfast lately, thanks for the idea :). Today I actually tried cashew butter with shredded coconut sprinkled on top- do you like coconut? If so, it’s a must try!

  10. if murphy is taking prednisone to relieve the irritation in his eyes, that makes them very, very thirsty and they drink a ton of water. my dog had an eye infection last fall and the vet made sure i knew he would have to go outside more frequently as long as he was taking pred, especially in the beginning when they’re getting a full dose of it.

  11. Glad to hear Murphy is feeling better! Seeing that picture makes me think the EXACT same thing is going on with my pug… his eyes look the same way. Ugh, frustrating since he’s already been to the vet several times because of this!

  12. Ahhh I can feel the jitters on behalf of you right now! I’m thinking you’ll rock this one! Since it is shorter AND you’ve been such a great crossfitter. I think those kinds of workouts really help in the speed and endurance aspect. 🙂

    Poor Murphy, glad he is feeling better today! Did the vet put him on steroids? Whenever my dog has been on steroids, he has really bad allergies 🙁 they but him on steroids and he drinks like crazy. The vet has always said as long as i provide him with enough water not to worry.

  14. Just a little tip for Murphy that we give our clients at the clinic I work at – if you elevate his food and water bowl, he’ll be able to better access them with his E-collar on 🙂
