Hello, Monday! š
Sorry that I didn’t post about dinner last night. It ended up being a really late night for me– plus, I still needed to write my Health post for the week. If you’re curious, Mal and I ate dinner at my mom’s house last night, which I wrote about over at Trading Up Downtown.
When I was at my mom’s house last night, she pulled out an old-school favorite of mine: aĀ Pocket Rocker! Total blast from the past, right? My mom was cleaning the attic the other day and stumbled upon this gem. Surprisingly, it still works!
I used to love my Pocket Rocker! I’d put it in the basket on the front of my bike and ride all over the neighborhood, rocking out to Tiffany, The Bangles, Debbie Gibson, Belinda Carlisle, and Whitney Houston. I thought I was SO cool with my Pocket Rocker and banana seat bike. Man, those were the days!
Breakfast
This morning, I rocked the Oats in a Jar for breakfast. My beloved Nuttzo was just about gone, so I used the semi-empty jar for my oats.
In the mix:
- 1/4 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/4 cup oat bran
- 1/3 cup frozen blueberries
- 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tbsp flax
- 2 tbsp chopped walnuts
- Cinnamon
I also enjoyed a wonderful homemade iced latte with breakfast.
Delicious!
Oatmeal Seed Extravaganza
As you probably know, my blog buddy, Kath, and I both love chia seeds and flax in our morning bowl of oats, so we arranged a special deal with OpenSky: chia seeds and flax seeds are 30% off from now thru midnight on Tuesday!!! If you’ve been meaning to stock up, a 1/2 pound of organic chia seeds AND a pound of organic flax seeds is just $13 for both. There’s only 20 bundles available, so act fast!
Question of the Day
What do you consider the “coolest” toy from your childhood?
P.S. I have my second check-in for Lose the Dough this afternoon. šÆ Wish me luck!

I had one of those babies that went to the bathroom and you had to change the diaper. I didn’t have the pocket rocket but I did have a walkman. As a child of the 90’s I remember jamming out to mariah caery and paula abdul š
I loved my Skip-It! I would rock that wearing my fanny pack and scrunchy. Lol!!!
My coolest toy from childhood was definitely this fluffy white dog that was motorized and moved across the room. It was very hip circa ’89.
I’ve never heard of a Pocket Rocker – how fun! I had a boom box that I BLASTED Michael Jackson from and did tumbling routines to. Ahhh, past times š
Oh yum… OIAJ are the best thing EVER!
Oh my gosh..total blast from the past! I loved my Pocket Rocker!!
I had a pocket rocker with the little Bangles tape! The Bangles were my first ever live concert when I was 6. So cool! š
Pahahahahah I just bust out laughing at the Pocket Rocket. Too funny.
Hmmm Barbies will probably always be my #1!
OIAJ…. so good!!
thanks for the chia seed and flaxseed offer Tina! Chia seeds are so expensive out at my local Whole Foods, and now I have them, woohoo!
Coleco vision video games were the coolest and way better than the Nintento. OMG, Whitney, Bangles, Belinda, when I hear them I instantly feel 12 years old again. LOVE them so much
how in the heck does that still work?! I am amazed. I had the exacta same one. The Tiffani tape was my favoriteeee. great blast from the past.
BTW – I saw your Rent The Runway dress in this week’s US Weekly!
I used to love Debbie Gibson! I even dressed up as her for Halloween one year! It’s so fun to remember the 80’s!
I loved my Barbies/American Girl dolls/and Nano pet. Those were the days…Beanie Babies were pretty cool too.
@Liz: You did? What page? I just read through that issue and didn’t see it!
I must have been too old for the Pocket Rocker … had a Cabbage Patch doll that I loved, and quite the collection of Barbies and Strawberry Shortcake dolls. But my all-time favorite toys would have to the very low-tech hula hoop and jump rope. I used to play with those things for hours!
Now, if only I still did, I could count that as a workout!
Cabbage Patch kids hands down! I loved those things and I think my mom still has a bag of about 10 of them in my closet at home. š
Good luck with lose the dough! I started a challenge of my own over a month ago and am so proud to say that it has been awesome! I have lost inches everywhere and nearly a whole dress size! I love challenges…such a great way to feel inspired and change up your routine.
i never had a pocket rocker but it looks like we had the same taste in music….weirdly, i now have the same agent as debbie – i mean, deborah – gibson.
My coolest toy from childhood had to be my American Girl doll Molly. I just loved her and all the stuff she came with. I also loved her story. I guess I was a history dork even back then.
I loved my tamagotchi’s, barbie collection, easy bake oven, and my brother’s creepy crawler bug maker haha

my favorite childhood toy was…a calculator. seriously. haha!
Oh my! I loved Pocket Rockers! I never had one but all my friends did – I was sooo jealous.
I was just thinking about old school toys, and the Skip It came to mind. We were also watching the I love the 90’s show on VH1 last weekend, and they were talking about My Buddy and Kid Sister…you know you remember the commercial and song that went with it!
My faves were Barbies, my Nintendo Game Boy, and Legos
I’m so behind on your posts but I just wanted to say you looked amazing in that dress! Agents might be calling for some modeling š anyways my fave old toy was my glo worm!
I have never heard of a pocket rocker although I am only a couple years younger than you (May ’82!). My fav toys were definitely My Little Ponies, and , when I got older, American Girl Doll – Samantha. I could play with those toys for hours!
I loved the pogo ball I had! And the Barbie McDonalds, it came with mini big macs, shakes, etc.!
I just realized we have the same wedding date by the way! Gorgeous day wasn’t it!? š
I want that pocket rocker so bad! Pocket rocker sounds like a sex toy, doesn’t it?
I really gotta try this oats in a jar when my pb gets empty.
Pocket Rocker! I totally listened to Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now” on that thing. Totally 80s!
Thanks for your posting. My partner and i have continually observed that almost all people are wanting to lose weight simply because they wish to show up slim plus attractive. Having said that, they do not constantly realize that there are other benefits so that you can losing weight as well. Doctors insist that over weight people come across a variety of diseases that can be perfectely attributed to their excess weight. The good news is that people that are overweight in addition to suffering from diverse diseases can help to eliminate the severity of their illnesses through losing weight. You are able to see a progressive but notable improvement in health whenever even a small amount of losing weight is attained.
Oh man! I was just telling my wife about pocket rockers and googled it so she could see. Crazy the little things that remind you of childhood. I too had debbie gibson, walk like an egyptian… I thought I was cool stuff.
