I’ve left you guys hanging long enough! So, here goes…
Remember this post?
A few months ago, Melissa contacted me about a guest post. In her email, she explained that she worked for NuVal, a scientifically-based nutritional scoring system that rates foods on how nutritious they are on a scale of 1-100. Consumers use the scoring system across all products and brands to make informed decisions about food.
With my obvious interest in nutrition and my background in public health, Melissa’s email immediately caught my attention.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I had been thinking about perusing a part-time job for few weeks already, so I knew it couldn’t hurt to ask about a potential opportunity with NuVal. One important thing I have learned in life is that if you want something, ASK! You might as well try to get what you want. I mean, the worst case scenario is a ‘no,’ right? So, I asked Melissa if NuVal was looking to hire anyone.
I knew that I wanted to be involved with this company in some capacity, but what did I want to do? Surprisingly, this decision was easy for me. I knew exactly what I wanted to do– for once in my life!
Melissa worked her magic, and soon I was invited to meet with some of the folks at NuVal for an “exploratory” conversation. We chatted about NuVal’s goals and future plans, and then we discussed how I could benefit the company. So, I put on my game face and pitched myself: I wanted to do social media marketing for NuVal.
I left the meeting feeling pretty confident, but a few weeks later, I still hadn’t heard anything. So, what did I do? I followed-up like a crazy person! I sent examples of my writing, videos about the benefits of social media– I even sent a sample job description! I was probably on the verge of being annoying, but I knew this potential job opportunity would be the perfect fit for me. I just couldn’t let it slip away!
Several weeks and zillion prayers later, I received a job offer from NuVal. (Of course, Mal and I celebrated appropriately!) And, just 24 hours later, I enthusiastically accepted their offer!
Working with the communications team, I will be responsible for NuVal’s social media strategy. Wahoo! My new job involves all sorts of fun social media stuff, like blogging, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Sounds perfect for me, doesn’t it? I’ll actually be reaching out to influential bloggers to assist with spreading the NuVal message, so let me know if you want to help!
In a few weeks, I start part-time at NuVal and the rest of my time will be devoted to my blog, freelance writing, and a bunch of new projects.
Be sure to stay tuned! It’s just starting to get fun! 😉
