Happy birthday to me! It’s my birthday, and I turn 33 years old young today!
Pug + cupcake hat = THE BEST
Today is also National Martini Day! Perfect, right? Maybe I should call it National MarTINA Day? Haha!
Looking back on the past 365 days, it’s apparent that I had a pretty kick-ass year. I still can’t believe everything that happened. I traveled a ton, attended all sorts of awesome events, and spent time with my favorite people. What an amazing year, and I’m thankful for every single second of it. With that said, here are my favorite experiences from year #32:
Here’s the final post from our Ireland adventures! In case you missed the first two, here they are: What To Do In Ireland {Part 1} What To Do In Ireland {Part 2} DINGLE Stay The Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast. If you visit Dingle, definitely stay here!
We made it! Twenty hours of travel and we’re here! I AM SO PSYCHED! A HUGE thank you to the Oahu Visitor’s Bureau for sponsoring my trip and making one of my dreams come true. Yesterday started bright and early at 4:00 AM.
Good morning and greetings from Canyon Ranch Lenox! I will be spending the next 2.5 days here as part of a media visit. My friend Gina put me in touch with one of the public relations representatives at Canyon Ranch and the rest is history.
My sister’s baby shower was a huge success! It was a beautiful day, tons of family and friends were in attendance, and the mommy-to-be had a wonderful time. We couldn’t have asked for a better day! I can’t wait for baby Matthew to be here! Less than 2 months to go
Ok, where did we leave off? Biking adventures, right? After our biking tour of Mystic, we headed back to Mohegan Sun for an afternoon at Elemis Spa. Each of us were provided with a spa service to review, so I chose a deep tissue massage.
Yoga with Martha Stewart at Grand Central Station
Rise and shine, it’s time for yoga with Martha Stewart! My day started bright and early at Theodora‘s apartment. We were both invited to a yoga event with Martha Stewart this morning, so I spent the night on her couch (Theodora‘s not Martha’s) last night.
Yesterday afternoon, Murphy and I had a very special visit to make at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). As you probably know, the MIT community has been through quite a lot lately, so when I received a request from Dog B.O.N.E.S. about visiting the campus, Murphy and I immediately jumped at the chance.
Good morning! Happy Friday! Last night’s New York City adventures started with appetizers and drinks at The Long Room. Strike a pose, Theodora! Theodora and I met a bunch of her friends there before the concert. Everyone ordered wine (I stuck with water) and then we shared a few appetizers among the table.
As cheesy as it may sound, four years ago today, I married my best friend. Mal rules for a lot of reasons, but my favorite is that we always have so much fun together””whether it’s doing CrossFit, traveling, drinking beers, or simply making up spur-of-the-moment games to play together””we always manage to make each other smile.
Hooray! Our “tiny HUGE” party was a huge success! What a fun time! Mal was ready to party. Ping”¦ not so much. (How adorable is he?!) The food was definitely the highlight of the day. On the menu: mini pizzas made from homemade (omg, delicious) dough. Sliders. Pasta salad made with tiny and HUGE shells.
Ahhhhhh! The CrossFit Games are absolutely amazing! I keep referring to them as “CrossFit Christmas” because they’re so fun! Again, a huge THANK YOU to GNC and Reebok for making this trip happen for me. I am forever grateful! On Friday, Heather, Kelly, and I arrived at the Games around 10:30 AM.
After our paddleboarding adventures yesterday morning, Mal and I visited Bend again to explore some more. We arrived late in the afternoon and then wandered around Wall Street and Bond Street, popping into cute shops and enjoying the sights and sounds.
Phew. I’m glad the 2013 CrossFit Open is officially over. It was a ton of fun, and I really enjoyed myself, but I’m ready to get back to my regular workouts. I feel like I haven’t been to a CrossFit class in ages! Last Friday afternoon, Kerrie and I made plans to do 13.5 together.
The time has come to show you guys our new bathroom!! Are you ready? Here’s a quick history of how it’s looked over the years: Here’s how the re-do went down: Demo day. Out with the old. In with new tile. Hello, new floor! Hello, new vanity and toilet! And, finally, the walls were painted.
Good morning! I have a fun holiday project to share with you guys. I was inspired to make it after almost buying a neat advent calendar from Starbucks a couple of weeks ago. Each day of the calendar was filled with chocolate or another fun surprise, so it was a lot more festive than the cheap-y ones I usually buy.
I did it! I did my first “Girl” workout as prescribed! Woohoo! I finished “Helen,” but, man, it wasn’t pretty. My time wasn’t super fast, but I’m still proud of myself for Rx-ing a benchmark workout. I first did “Helen” back in February and finished in 12:12, but I used bands for the pull-ups.
Happy National Carrot Cake Day!!! National Carrot Cake Day is also the day that I published my very first post on Carrots ”˜N’ Cake. Crazy coincidence, right? Every year since then, I’ve celebrated both of these special occasions on February 3rd.
On Saturday night, Mal and I got all dressed up and then started our evening with a cocktail at the pub at Twin Farms. The pub had a fully-stocked bar (with snacks) as well as a variety of entertainment options, including a pool table, dart board, big screen TV with lots of movies, and a grand piano.
Questions of the Day
What’s your favorite kind of martini?
Dirty martini with extra olives.
What has been your favorite year of your life so far?
I really loved being 20 because I had some amazing and insanely fun experiences that year, including living in the Gamma Phi Beta sorority house with 30 of my best friends, spending the summer working on Block Island with four girl friends, and then going to England for a semester abroad, which included lots of travel all over Europe. It was an epic year.
P.S. Happy birthday to my June 19th birthday twin, Hillary!

Happy Belated Birthday! I can’t wait to look back over my year once my birthday comes. I really feel as though this year was life changing for me, more with just becoming happy with myself, then any big major life advent.
