I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July! Mal, Murphy, and I had a great one!
It started out like a regular day: OMG Pancakes for breakfast.
A CrossFit workout.
We did a hero WOD (“D.T.”) in honor of Independence Day.
And then Mal and I decided to host a last-minute barbeque at our house, which meant we needed to take a quick trip to the grocery store.
Clean our house.
And backyard.
And prep the food.
We kept the menu short and sweet, which really simplified things for us.
Ready to party!
We served veggies and dip.
Cherries.
Watermelon, cheeseburgers, and Pretzel Crisps with salsa.
Our friends brought ribs, pasta salad, cookies, more burgers, sausage, chicken.
Red velvet cake.
Watermelon beer, homemade wine, more watermelon, and Doritos.
We had quite the feast!
Besides tons of delicious food and drink, there was also plenty of yard games.
Polish horseshoes.
With Burpee penalties!
Team Blue Shirt.
Good times!
How did you spend your 4th of July?

I like the veggie/dip dish in your photos. Simple and cute!
We saw the fireworks–which turned out to be great. 🙂
That was so great of you to host a party last minute, I’m sure all your friends appreciated it! I went to the Chicago Art Institute with a girl from my internship who’d never been, and we grabbed lunch. Then in the evening I hung out with my brother and sister-in-law and we took their dog Molly to the lake front to watch the Navy Pier firework show!
Last minute get-togethers are the best! I’ve been visiting my boyfriend in Texas, and yesterday we played volleyball for a few hours, spent some time at the pool and barbecued burgers and ribs!
I spy some Shock Top…we had the same yesterday! How was the Watermelon Ale? I tried a Lychee(!) Ale recently and it was more like cider than I would’ve liked…
Maybe hosting a party last minute would take away any of the stress of planning and prepping for it! 🙂
Last minute plans always end up being the funnest 🙂
I spent my time in someone’s backyard too – it just happened to be at the White House…yes, I’m a name dropper. 😉 So exciting to see DC fireworks from the President’s lawn! A good time was had by all. It was lots of hot, sweaty fun and the fireworks were awesome – I even found myself gasping at times which is totaly not me! Tons of fun followed by another day of work. Yes, it’s a bit of a bummer today.
That’s awesome! How’d that happen!?
Wow, you guys had quite an impressive spread for having a party on such short notice! And I love Murphy’s little bandana … so cute!
Looks like a fun bbq. Murphy looks so cute in his patriotic bandana. And that red velvet cake…get in my belly now!
Omg, the cake was amazing! 🙂
We just did D.T. at our box on Monday! Would you mind sharing your weight/time?
I used 75 pounds and finished in 11:34. How’d you do?
I used 55 pounds and finished in 10:41. I really underestimated the hang cleans on this one. They were by far the toughest part for me.
Nice! That cake does look delicious!!!
My husband and I just ran errands and car shopped. With the dealerships closed, we could peruse without being hassled! Then we watched the fireworks in downtown Dover. Good times!

I love your top! Where’d you find it?
Thanks! I think I got it at Marshall’s.
Glad you enjoyed your 4th! The more I see of your house, the more I love it!!
That sounds like a super fun, relaxing day. I didn’t do a whole lot on the day. Watched TV, edited, ran to the grocery store for stuff for our own Independence Celebration tonight (my aunt hosts it and she only gets Thursdays off. Tradition.), and then went swimming and made cupcake cones (Red Velvet. Must be a holiday thing. LOL). Published my first book on Smashwords, which was an awesome personal accomplishment, and I was so happy to have the day off work to do it!
Awwwww Murphy!!! All he needs is some badass biker glasses and he’ll be set 😛
Looks like you had a lot of fun with friends! We had a low key day yesterday, but have friends coming over to sit at the pool today. I wish we had a yard to play yard games in – but I guess the complex pool will do!
Mmmm those veggies look awesome! What a fun celebration 🙂
Looks like you had an awesome Fourth! Your house is adorable, and so is Murphy! 🙂
That’s awesome that you guys pulled that BBQ together at the last minute – it looks like it was a great time!
That looks so fun and relaxing, Tina!
Ah, I LOVE Murphy’s bandana! Looks like a fun celebration. 🙂
My favorite thing in the world: Dog Bandana’s! I just love pups in bandanas!
Murphy is very festive! Looks like a fun day! I spent mine by a pool
Watermelon ale?! Whoa. That sounds delightful.
I love that Hooker Watermelon Beer. We had the same brew last year at our Fourth of July party. So sad I didn’t have it this year. That and a piece of the Red Velvet Cake would be a fantasy meal for me.
I love your backyard! And where’s that rug from? 🙂
Ikea!
I have the same rug 🙂 I love it!
Last minute parties are the best. Less hassle and stress = more fun!
Looks like so much fun! I love the Fourth of July! That looks like a huge crossfit class…I love it when classes are that big! So motivating! And DT is one of my favorite WODs!
Love Murphy’s patriotic look! 🙂
LOVE the patriotic pug’s bandana!!!! Watermelon ale? yes please!!! 🙂 Hope your 5th is as good as your 4th was Tina.
Thanks! You too, lady! 🙂
what a fun day!i know i enjoyed all the food at my barbecue yesterday, so today i was extra motivated to get back on track with my regular eating & workout!
Lots of smiles and colourful food — it looks like you had a blast! I didn’t celebrate the 4th since I’m in Canada, but I did watch the fireworks over the river since we live on the border! 😀
Dt is the wod that we have ine the semi finale at the reebok championship in paris, this was the firt crossfit competition in france 😉 i was arrive in finale 😉 crossfit is the best
Looks pretty much perfect. I’m hosting a BBQ/potluck tonight so I hope it turns out as well as yours seemed to. 😉 I’m Canadian, so yesterday, I had a job interview, then went hiking/picnic with a friend, then running errands for my sister’s baby shower this weekend then home to work on my online course…phew! I did watch the fireworks on NBC though.
Looks like a great time!
Watermelon Ale sounds so interesting! Looks like you had a fun 4th! My husband and I ran a 5K in the morning rain and I PR’d whoo hoo! Then we spent the day at my in-laws BBQ by the pool. It was a nice but really hot day!
Nice job!!! 🙂
I love watermelon ale!! So good.
haha Murphy seriously cracks me up!
We had a huge family cookout at my parents, went swimming, ate delicious food, adult punch 😉 and had quality family time!
You guys looked like you had so much fun! I’m jealous of the food. Also, Murphy is such a character, love his little kerchief.
My CrossFit was closed on the 4th, but we did Murph the day before. Actually, I did a 1/2 Murph and that was tough for me! I can’t imagine doing the whole workout, at least not yet. Have you done this one yet?
Not yet, but I really want to!
Aww, Murphy’s bandana is too cute. Looks like a great party! Watermelon beer sounds incredible.
Looks like a fun time!!! All the food looks great and you have a pretty house!
My 4th was pretty similar, a cookout with lots of food and even more sunshine! We also played some really intense pool volleyball, so much fun, I love summer holidays!
Awww…Murphy looks too cute with his patriotic bandana!
Looks like a great day!! Love the pictures of your house!
My box went the “Exorcist Stairs” in Georgetown it was so hard!
I also had a last minute get together, but I didn’t invite many people because I wasn’t sure how the view from my balcony would work for watching the fireworks, thankfully it was a success!
What a great party!!!
Where does one find watermelon ale???
First off, your living room is absolutely adorable! Such cute, but simple decorations! Secondly, explain to me what Polish Horseshoes is?
So glad to see that you had such a great Independence Day with yummy foods and friends 🙂
looks like you had a fun day! i woke up early and made breakfast for my boyfriend and me. eggs, bacon and cinnamon rolls. and lots of coffee. then he ran off for errands and i went to a yoga class. after that, we just went to the pool, napped during the afternoon and went to a cookout at a friends for dinner. it was a nice day hanging with my best friend. we’ve been together for a year now and i’m just still as over the moon for him as I was the first time I laid my eyes on him 🙂
Is red velvet cake the new Fourth of July thing? It seems like everyone on FB was posting pics of theirs and now you too! Looks so yummy though, its a “thing” I can get behind if it is or isn’t 😀
