Tomorrow morning, I am going to take my very first New Harvest capsule as part of my 6-week “body experiment” to see whether the omega-3 levels in my body increase. In addition to heart health, New Harvest claims to improve your mood and support emotional well-being, so why not give it a whirl? I have no problem with being happy! 😉

Tonight, I took the first of two diagnostics (blood) tests to measure the omega-3 levels in my body. This one was the “before” test, and 6 weeks later, I’ll take the “after” test. I’ll be sure to share the results, and I will let you know if I experience any changes in my mood.

I apologize if this part of my post sounds a tad sales-y. New Harvest seems like a great product, but I won’t know for sure until I try it for myself.

Snack

While working away this afternoon, I broke out some pitted prunes to snack on. I’m not sure how many I ended up eating– maybe 7 or 8?

Dinner

I didn’t eat a single vegetable all day, so I piled them high for tonight’s dinner.

In the mix:

  • Romaine
  • Tomatoes
  • Red onions
  • Carrots
  • Mushrooms
  • Feta
  • Lentils
  • Balsamic vinegar

I really loved the combination of lentils + feta. It might have to keep it mind for future recipes! 😉

After dinner, I enjoyed a bunch of Dove dark chocolates.

A little while later, I broke into the Whole Wheat Banana-Walnut Muffins and spread a thick layer of peanut butter on top. My cravings/hunger are a tad out-of-control today.

  1. To follow up on the lentils and feta combination that you enjoyed so much, lentils and goat cheese are a classic match as well. Lentils, goat cheese and walnuts are fantastic together. Try it sometime. 🙂

  2. What exactly did you do for the diagnostic test? How does it measure the omega-3’s? Also, I am assuming New Harvest provided you with the measurement tool so do you know where they are available to purchase? I do a pretty good job about getting my omega-3s in with real food but I’d be curious to see measure anyway.

  3. I’m especially interested to hear about the potential effects on your mood. I wonder if it will be easy for you to notice, though, since you are a fairly happy person to begin with…….

  5. Have you read what Michael Pollan has written about Omega-3s and 6s? Although I am sure you have, he offers an interesting perspective on the relationship (and necessary balance) between the two, and why increasing 3s for example won’t necessarily aid in reducing “depression” (what nutritionalists jump to associating low O-3 values with) unless matched with a balanced O-6 level. What I find most important about Pollan’s work on this is the reason Omega-3s are so often related to fish and fish oils is because fish eat algae– aka greens. If we shifted our diet to more complete greens and less “seed” then we would naturally receive similar amounts of these necessary oils. What do you think? Do you take other supplements? Is this something you considered before New Harvest solicited you?
    Thanks for your hard work. I would actually love to write to you more about food blogger meet-ups and the traps of comparison, but perhaps another time.

  6. Hi Tina, do you have any follow up on this trial? Did you ever get the second test and would you recommend this product to others?

    My dr recommended I start taking an Omega 3 supplement and I immediately remembered this post of yours. I would like to go with the vegetarian option if the quality is good.
