GaGa, Oh La La

Let me start off by saying that I don’t really like pop music. Ok, I guess I like it, but I don’t love it. I mostly like pop because it makes for some great workout music. Artists like Kelly Clarkson, Pink, and Britney always seem to get me motivated. But, typically, my favorite genres of music are classic rock, 80’s rock, and singer/songwriters, like David Gray and Ray Lamontagne.

With that being said, I have a weird obsession with Lady Gaga. It’s very strange for me to like a pop artist so much, but I can’t seem to get enough of her music. I totally ROCK OUT to her songs. There’s just something about her music that I really enjoy.

Rah-rah-ah-ah-ah! Roma-Roma-ma-ah! Ga-ga-ooh-la-la! Want your bad romance.

Breakfast

For breakfast, I dug into my stash of Mad Hectic oatmeal. I went with the Raspberry Almond flavor this morning. Mmm!

I added some sliced almonds and a scoop of Teddie peanut butter to the mix.

  1. I am obsessed with the song telephone! And the music video with beyonce too…it’s so out there.

  2. I’m the same! I LOVE Ray Lamontagne! I’m not a pop fan at all but I admire Lady GaGa’s marketing skills and her music is pretty awesome to work out to!

I’m a classic rock, rock ‘n’ rolls, 90’s alternative and indie lover (check out Hawksley Workman – my Canadian music God – someone mentioned Serena Ryder – he produced her last album)!

  3. I rocked out to a few Lady Gaga songs on my run this morning – I agree – she is great to run to!

Coldplay is my favorite group though – but a little too slow/mellow to run to.

  4. Ray is my favorite, favorite, favorite…doesn’t he just speak to your soul?
I really disliked Gaga until Telephone…for some reason I can’t get enough of that song.

  5. I am with you and not loving pop music. I actually take it a step further and don’t even like it to work out generally. I prefer hip hop and rap for working out but that’s not to say there is some pop songs that don’t make their way onto my i-pod. I don’t like Lady Gaga at all though- she’s too much for me. I don’t like that over-the-top crazy behavior. haha
    Have a great day!

  6. I am honestly so jealous about the healthworks pass and giveaway. They need to open them in other states because it is one of the top things I miss about Boston! I know that seems silly but it’s true. I even wore my healthworks tee to the gym yesterday! Music-wise I listen to pretty modern stuff for working out but not necessarily pop star type. More festival music I’ve heard at lollapalooza, etc. I love running to Passion Pit, MGMT, Empire of the Sun, M.I.A. and like them in real life too but when I want something lighter, I go with classic rock or Bon Iver, Alexi Murdoch, Devendra Banhart, Feist, etc.

  7. @Tina: You have no idea how ridiculously excited I am to see David AND Ray in concert! Their concert is here in Calgary on Monday, and I am counting the minutes 🙂

I listen to a lot of indie right now, Broken Bells is one of my current favs other than David Gray and Ray Lamontagne. She & Him are amazing, I also have Jack Johnson, A Fine Frenzy, Metric, Ohbijou, and Pete Yorn on my iPod.

Going to see U2 for the first time next month, and The Fray are opening for them, should be fun!

  8. Are you a ‘new’ Lady Gaga fan or do you like her older stuff? I love her album The Fame, but for some reason I haven’t been able to get into her newer album The Fame Monster. Maybe it’s her over-the-top persona? She’s definitely great workout music though!

  9. I really like all music except for Jazz. Pop/Rap music is great for exercise, really gets me moving. My favorite is an artist by the name of Anastacia. Her voice is A-mazing! Love her!

I wish Chicago had a health works. Seems like they offer great classes and the space looks fantastic!

  10. favorite music = gaga. yes, she’s her own genre. i love her so much that i even have an entire “blog tag” devoted to her. no neeeeed to be ashamed of the gaga-love!

  11. I’ve become a huge fan of Lady GaGa too. I didn’t think I would when she first came out but now I love her. I love to workout to her or Ke$ha too. My current favourite song to workout to is ‘Your Love is my Drug’.

I’m actually doing a poll in my blog about current favourite workout songs and I’d love for you and any of your readers to come by and share some of your favourite workout songs.

You can check it out here: katieshealthydiscovery.blogspot.com

  12. I think I might be the only person in the world who doesn’t get Lady Gaga…

I’m more of a rock girl myself. I’m obsessed, obsessed I tell you with Dave Grohl and all he touches is gold in my eyes 😉

  13. I might be the only person on earth that doesn’t listen to music when working out. (How do you get those ear buds to stay in?) My gym blares bad 80s/90s jazzercise-ish remixes and sometimes strange ‘international’ music, which is entertaining enough… but sometimes it drives me crazy!

  14. who doesnt like Lady Gaga?? i have YET to meet someone, even if they dont like pop-y music who cant stand her.. lol
my favorite kind of music is hip-hop- nothing gets me motivated to move better than that..
and i would rather stick a fork in my eye than listen to metal. gag me!!

  15. i still listen to music i listened to in college – pixies, pink floyd, ani di franco, and 90’s hip hop like tribe called quest and de la soul. at home when we entertain we put on old jazz and 80’s records that we have. nowadays i listen to npr podcasts – i’m stuck!!!

  16. Usually my best workout music is any kind of hip hop. Recently my Zumba class inspired me and my power song is fuego by pitbull. 🙂

  17. I like so many types of music it’s crazy, haha. I love Lady Gaga too!

Right now I’m loving the Goo Goo Dolls because they are my favorite band of all time and I just saw them in concert this past Friday 😉

  18. I think some Lady Gaga would be perfect for Body Pump (maybe it is and I just haven’t been in so long I haven’t heard it, oops). 🙂

  19. I have the SAME problem with Lady Gaga! I just can’t help myself! Guilty pleasures are okay right? 😉

  20. So funny about Gaga!! I was debating for awhile if I loved her or couldn’t stand her… and I’ve decided that I totally love her!!!! Such good workout music too!

  21. Love Gaga! My office mate and I always laugh when Bad Romance comes on because she thinks the beginning sounds like Scooby Doo! LOL!

  22. I am a college age reader currently studying abroad in Berlin, Germany. and I just saw Lady Gaga last night in concert! She was crazy (of course) but also so amazing. The show was spectacular and totally worth the money–definitely buy tickets if she’s ever in your area!!

  23. I’m loving Paramore’s new album right now, which is also excellent when working out. Then there’s always my tried and true favorites: Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, and Alanis Morisette. I think I still listen to the same stuff I listened to in junior high.
