Hi, guys! How was your weekend? Mine was filled with good friends, good food, and plenty of good times! It was truly a wonderful weekend.
On Saturday night, we had a couple of friends over for pizza night. Mal whipped up some homemade dough (recipe from the Bread Baker’s Apprentice), which was surprisingly easy to make. He needed to make it the night before and store it in the refrigerator, but it was so simple.
The directions instructed him to divide the dough into six smaller portions, so we had “personal” size pizzas to get creative with.
We each made our own creation and then turned the last two balls of dough into a veggie lover’s and everything pizza.
And then we transferred each one to a pizza stone in the oven to cook. They were done in no time!
We were all pretty entertained by Mal’s dough spinning skills, but Quinn was not that impressed. That little face… too cute.
Pizza heaven! Our pizzas turned out so well and the dough was phenomenal. Excellent work, Mal!
On Sunday morning, we met our friends Elizabeth, Nick, and their daughter, Grace, for brunch at the Scarlet Oak Tavern in Hingham.
We heard great things about the brunch, so we were really excited to go there. (Local friends: Scarlet Oak is totally kid-friendly, but it was super busy on Sunday, so definitely make a reservation. We got lucky and somehow scored a table in about 15 minutes.)
Cheers to great friends! And cocktails at brunch! Elizabeth and Nick are so fun. I’m so glad we got to spend time with them yesterday.
Our little peanut tried cornbread for the first time at brunch. He was a fan. Well, he’s a fan of all food, but he especially liked cornbread.
In addition to my mimosa, I ordered a goat cheese and spinach omelette. It was so, so, so tasty. Everyone else raved about their food (and drinks) too, so Scarlet Oak is definitely a winner in my book. Yum!
Question of the Day
Your turn! Food with friends this past weekend: Who? What? Where? When?

Those pizza’s look so good! I love homemade pizza! My Dad also make homemade pizza dough and it really makes a difference!
Saturday I went to a tapas place in Brighton for a friends 30th. We shared wine and apps and it was so good! Tapas is really perfect for a girls night out!
Sunday we went to a kid’s birthday party at a friends house. There was potato salad, rice, pasta salad (with grapes and capers in it, awesome combo!), slow cooker ribs, chicken, and caesar salad. Dessert was also good, it included cheesecake cookie bars, sugar cookies and of course birthday cake! Lets just say I ate very well this weekend!
friends and food always make for a good weekend!
Wow, a pizza party looks like a great idea! I like doing personal pizzas so everyone can get what they want 🙂
I tried to make a homemade pizza and it was ALL crust with a puddle of cheese and sauce in the middle. I need to learn how Mal did it! Great addition to all that marathon training! Are you tapering now?! So close to race day!
Not yet. Still 2 weeks away!
I’ve always thought homemade pizza making was incredibly fun. Plus, I love the smell of the dough cooking in the oven. One of my dear friends has a Christmas Eve tradition that she would go to her parents house and make homemade pizza – right down to homemade pizza sauce that her dad would simmer all day. Now she’s in her 40s and they still keep the tradition alive. I love stuff like that. 🙂
Looks a delicious weekend of eats! I visited with two good friends (one since high school, the other since pre-k!) this weekend and we definitely ate our fair share of good food. A turkey club sandwich with sweet potato fries, tomato basil pizza, macarons, tacos + guacamole, and grilled chicken salads.
is there anything better than friends, cocktails & brunch on a weekend? i think not! that bloody mary is a MEAL!
I had a girls night on Saturday that was filled with laughter and fueled by wine!
Brunch is the best! We met up with our good friends at a local Mexican dive. Fresh chips and salsa are a close second to brunch 🙂
Brunch with a friend after our half marathon this weekend. It was amazing!
Went to a Portuguese restaurant with friends I haven’t seen in years!
Rodizio and shrimp with green sauce. Fresh baked potato chips and lots and lots of sangria!
That pizza and breakfast looks delicious!! This weekend I had an amazing cake at a baby shower. It tasted like wedding cake!
Making food with friends is always fun, and making food with kids, especially with vegetables, will get them to eat it because they made it! 🙂
Homemade pizzas are a lot of fun and looks like yours came out really well! We had a couple of meals out with family this weekend and it was a nice break from the nearly non stop cooking I normally do!
So much food with friends last week! Lunches all week long and then the Good Food Fest on Saturday. Food all over!
We love doing homemade personal pizzas with friends! It’s super easy and so fun to see how everyone likes to personalize their pizzas. Glad you guys had a fun and delicious weekend…those are the best!
we had a great dinner at my sister’s house last night! i made healthy crockpot lasagna and she made stuffed chicken and asparagus! nothing better than family and getting the babies together!
I had an amazing weekend! Discovered a new trail and hiked and trail ran both days. Had my first private Pilates session. Went to the outlet mall for shopping extravaganza and spent way too much money. Chopped my hair off and had good eats sprinkled in between!
I’m so hungry now after reading your post. In the mood to cook some fresh pizza. Great post.
Yum! I love personal pizzas! We had a great weekend filled with fresh juice, tropical fish tacos, fresh fruit and some pool time!
We had girls night with some girls from my sunday school class at church and we all wore our veils and brought our wedding photo albums to show each other while we ate desserts and cake. It was so much fun!
Aww, fun! 😄
I tried out my first Blue Apron meal this weekend and it was SO good! We got tom yum shrimp and noodles, which is one of my favorite foods, and it was even better than at most restaurants. I was shocked!
I also love to make homemade pizza! We get dough from trader joe’s and it’s surprisingly tasty. It’s really easy to make and tastes better than store-bought or frozen!
Yum! Blue Apron is the bomb, right? I love their meals! 🙂
Do you have pizza dough advice? We always struggle to get the dough to cook completely… we tried grilling our pizza last night, and still had to pop it under the broiler because part of the dough didn’t seem cooked through. 🙁
We used a pizza stone and it worked great! 🙂
Making homemade pizza can be messy but it’s worth it. Any favorite toppings from the night?
My food highlight of the weekend was cilantro burgers we made last night. So good.
I loves the pesto pizzas! 🙂
Yummy! I had some great food this weekend, especially the salmon my husband grilled for me last night! 🙂
Okay now I just want to eat pizza. I tried to go get GF pizza with my friends this weekend but they all bailed! Lamesauce. Ahh now I need to make this happen.
We had lots of family in town this weekend, so we hosted brunch on Saturday, complete with homemade doughnuts! Then everyone stayed all day so we ended up hosting dinner, too. I made bolognese… easy to feed a crowd!
I had dinner w two other blogger friends last night at Velvet Taco. So many delicious tacos!!
Those pizzas look great! When I was visiting my husband’s family in NC over the summer we had a huge pizza assembly line and then made them in the wood fire stove that they had outside. It was so much fun (and delicious!)
I love homemade pizza– so good!! I’ll have to look at that recipe you guys used for the crust. We found one we like but I’m definitely open to trying others 🙂
Looks like my kind of weekend! I might have to borrow the idea in a few days!
Cheers,
Madeline
I’m in college, and I just started spring break, so I had dinner with one of my high school best friends-crepes!
Homemade pizzas are the best!!! 🙂
Those pizzas look amazing! I had a few of the girls over Friday night for bookclub! It was great to hang out, have a couple drinks, and eat tacos! 🙂 Even if the book wasn’t that great.
Those pizzas look really good! 🙂
We had our last exam last thursday, so me and a couple of friends went out to eat and celebrate how awesome we are. There’s this place here in Gothenburg (don’t know if it even exists over where you live) called Pichos, where you order your food through an app. It’s pretty cool! Thats where we went to eat.
That’s the last time I had food with friends 😉
