First Morning on the Ranch

I slept like a rock last night, so I woke up bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, and totally refreshed this morning. Hooray! After the past few days (travel, Reebok event, travel, HLS cocktail party, Whole9 seminar, travel), I really needed it!

Breakfast

This morning’s breakfast was eaten in a few different pieces. I started with a banana with almond butter””I went back for another big scoop of nut butter.

Then, I ate an egg.

And then some blueberries.

I also made myself an iced vanilla chia tea “latte.”

I brewed some super strong tea last night, chilled it in the refrigerator overnight, and then added almond milk to it this morning.

I also wanted to add some cinnamon, but I hesitated when I saw the 1970s-looking ground cinnamon in the kitchen cabinet.

Ok, it’s actually from 1988. Haha!

Instead of cinnamon, I added some ground ginger and cloves. (I wonder how old they are?)

Off to ride bikes and explore!

  1. Looking forward to your post about Whole9 seminar. I’m in the midst of the Whole30 right now. It’s surprising easy…thought I’d miss brown rice, whole grain pasta, and yogurt but I’m thoroughly satisfied with recommended food.

  2. McCormick stopped selling spices under the Schilling label in 2002… so it’s at LEAST that old. 😉 Still… probably not as old as the cinnamon!

  3. Isn’t the best part about renting a vacation home checking out the spices and items left in the cabinet! It’s always a fun start to our family vacation- mostly so we know what we need to buy, but also to determine the oldest spice in the house! Have a great vacation!

  4. Hi Tina!

Have F-U-N exploring Oregon! I’d LOVE to hear what you thought of the Whole 9 Nutrition Seminar. I’m currently reading the book “It Starts with Food.”

  5. Hi.. lurker and first time poster here.

Just wanted to let you know that the year next the the copyright symbol is an indication of when the copyright was established and not how old the cinnamon itself is so it’s probably safe. 🙂

  6. When I’m spending the day at home I eat all day like you did your breakfast–eat a little, see if I’m still hungry a little while later, maybe eat some more, repeat. It’s nice to be able to graze all day.

Your cabin/house is really cute! I hope you’re enjoying your stay!

    1. @Angie: Did you seriously think that copyrighted date was the manufactured date? I thought you were joking but I wasn’t sure. 🙂

  7. Awww I love Oregon. I grew up going to Bend in the summer. My husband and I lived in Coos Bay for a year. Eugene and Portland are both fun. I hope you have a fantastic time. Love love love Oregon – I hope that is where we move next.

  8. I LOVE that tea! Yum.

I am struggling a lot with being away and trying to keep my eating “normal” when I don’t really know what normal is! Do you just make a point of packing food (a cooler?) or hitting up a grocery store when you get somewhere? I can’t seem to plan well…

  9. i LOVE black butte ranch! I’m so glad you get to see it too. I would highly recommend climbing black butte– its a great hike with gorgeous views. Also, if you’re health is good, I’d recommend making the 40 min drive into Bend to see some of their breweries. 10 Barrel has tasty beers and awesome pizza 🙂
