CrossFit After Party

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

What better way to celebrate the end the 2012 CrossFit Games than with a PAR-TAY!?! I joined my friends from CrossFit 781 for an evening of food, fun, and dancing.

The lovely ladies of 781 before dinner: me, Kim, Kayla, and Dani.

My friends’ hotel was right near a Cheesecake Factory, so we headed there for dinner. I started the evening with a glass of white wine.

To eat, Kim and I shared a bunch of appetizers: chicken lettuce wraps, flatbread pizza, and pork dumplings.

After dinner, as we were leaving the restaurant, guess who walked right by us? Annie Thorisdottir!!! She likely enjoyed her first meal as the “2012 Fittest Woman on Earth” at the Cheesecake Factory. Pretty cool, right!? I thought about trying to meet her, but I chickened out. Plus, she was holding hands with a guy, so I assumed it was her boyfriend and they probably wanted to enjoy the evening without gawking fans in their faces. It was still pretty neat to see her!

The CrossFit After Party was held at the Manhattan Beach Marriot, where most of the athletes were staying””many of them were in attendance.

Our tickets to the after party got us each two drinks, so I ordered a glass of champagne and mustered up my courage to meet some of the athletes.

IMG_8494 (750x563) (750x563)

The first athlete that I met was Daniel Tyminski, who placed 14th at the Games. He was really friendly and may or may not have kissed me on the cheek.

I also met Talayna Fortunato, a GNC-sponsored athlete. She placed 3rd at the Games.

My CrossFit coaches sort of knew Spencer Hendel from CrossFit ONE, which is located in the town next to our box, so we all went over and chatted with him. Spencer was super friendly and told us he was planning to hike Mount Whitney the very next day. No big deal the day after the CrossFit Games, right? He’s a machine!

And the athlete I was most excited to meet at the after party: Julie Foucher!!!

I was so nervous to approach her and ask for a photo together, but she was incredibly sweet. I asked her how she felt after the Games, and she replied: “Tired, but really great.” Ahhh, I can’t believe I met Julie Foucher!

My friends and I spent the rest of the night getting down on the dance floor. It was quite a party!

Me, Kim, Jason & Dani!

Oh, yea, and we met Bob Harper, who is also an avid CrossFitter. Rumor has it, he and Greg Glassman (the creator of CrossFit) hung out quite a bit at the CrossFit Games. So cool!

I can’t even begin to express how amazing my experience was at the CrossFit Games. It really was “CrossFit Christmas” for me. Of course, I had an absolute blast, but I left the Games feeling totally inspired. Now, I really want to get better at CrossFit, and, of course, spread the word even more about it. I’ve seen how much CrossFit has changed my life (and Mal’s) for the better, so I just want others to experience the same thing. I apologize to those of you who aren’t into CrossFit, but it’s something I am really passionate and love to blog about.

THANK YOU, Fitfluential, Reebok, and GNC for the opportunity to attend the 2012 CrossFit Games! I will never, ever forget this experience.

  1. Sounds like an overall AMAZING experience. Thanks for your recaps- I felt somewhat like I was there! (Not really, but it’s as close as I could get haha). Jealous of your trip!!

  2. Your passion for crossfit is inspiring! I love that you got to go to the games and it was really cool that you shared all of your experiences in such great detail! As a reader, I don’t get sick of reading about your Crossfit Love, it inspires me to find my exercise love!

  3. Good choice to let Annie have her privacy, I think the “Fittest Woman in America,” deserves to have personal boundaries! Folks at the after party are there to meet and great and are all fair game for friends, fans and groupies! Knowing the difference between being passionate and honoring personal boundaries is a benefit to everyone involved.

  4. You completely gave me the courage to try crossfit. Now I’m addicted! Keep spreading your passion so even more people can learn about the sport of fitness!

  5. Jealous!

Can I just say that I love that all these rockstar CF ladies look totally normal in street clothes? I want to send these pictures to anyone I hear boo-hooing about “but weightlifting will make me look manly and unattractive!”

  6. Looks like a blast. Im sure it was a dream to get to meet some of your favorite athletes. I would’ve geeked out over Bob Harper. I love him and he seems super nice ;0)

  7. That looks like such fun! I love Bob and all those athletes looked amazing. I am not a crossfitter (yet) but am passionate about my workouts and it is inspiring to see how passionate you are too!

  8. Honestly, I’ve loved these posts and your love for cf. People who put you down have never tried it. I felt like cf was a cult until I went to a free saturday class. Everyone was so welcoming and I loved the group atmosphere. I am now a convert and have been one for 4 months! keep it up!

  9. So awesome you got to meet all those athletes! I would have been so excited to meet Julie Foucher too!!! What an amazing time at the games! I love that you are spreading the positive word of crossFit! It has changed so much about my life too and I wish I could share that with as many people as possible! Thank you for sharing your experiences at the games! I really enjoyed all of your recaps!

  10. I’m glad you had such a great time! I’m not a CF-er (currently; maybe in the future), but I enjoy reading about it. Its fun to see how other people get/stay in shape! You and your fellow Crossfitters look like you were having a fun time. 🙂

  11. Thanks to all your CrossFit posts, my fiance and I did our first WOD at home this evening! We both felt like death after, but both agreed with loved it and felt so inspired! I start boot camp on Monday, but my next challenge is definitely CrossFit! Thanks for all your inspiration!

  12. Super Jealous!! You look beautiful! So many fit people in one place. You and Julie match – too cute!

  13. I want too (i think the future hubby will love it) but i’m waiting for the strain on my hip flexor to get better before i go!

  14. Never apologize for sharing something important to you! It’s your passion and you should be free to own it.

  15. I love that you guys shared apps at Cheesecake Factory because I never know what to order :0

So exciting that you met all these super fit people! I think it’s wonderful you are so passionate about it!

  16. I was googling fitness blogs and somehow found myself here. Just wanted to let you know that I just love your blog. I will definitely keep reading your posts. Greetings from Hanna in Finland =o)

  17. Awesome party!

And don’t feel like you have to apologize for talking about CrossFit – this is YOUR blog and you can write about what you want. And I like hearing about it because it has made me want to give it a try sometime. 😀

  18. Hi Tina, I read your blog every morning and just wanted to let you know you have inspired me (finally after all of your crossfit posts) to go take an evaluation class at a crossfit near me in Baltimore, MD. 🙂 I’ve done crossfit inspired classes before but never purely crossfit and I’m kind of excited to see if it’s in my budget to give a try!

  19. I really am inspired to join crossfit, but am SO SCARED. I have zero upper body strength – I am a big runner, but strength is my weakness. Will it be ok for someone who can run a marathon but can’t do a pullup?
