And Mal’s birthday celebration continues! š
For dinner tonight, we through together an easy meal before our guests arrived to enjoy Mal’s Birth Year Wine, a tradition that Mal’s French family participates in.
Mal grilled-up a couple of Praeger’s veggie burgers on our Griddler while I put together our side salads.Ā
I topped my veggie burger with Annie’s Natural Organic BBQ sauce. I like this BBQ quite a lot. It’s made withĀ pure maple syrup and natural wood smoke. The flavor is smoky, but sweet. The texture is thick and rich. Overall, it’s a great BBQ sauce without all that unneeded high fructose corn syrup.Ā
In our salads were arugula, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, and bean sprouts. I’m a big fan of bean sprouts on salads– they add a fun texture.Ā
Birth Year Wine
Mal’s birth year (1982) was great for Bordeaux wines. In fact, the 1982 Bordeaux’sĀ areĀ sometimesĀ known as a “century” wines.
When Mal was born, his family gave his parents a case of Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste Pauillac to be consumed at a later date– such Mal’s 21st birthday or his wedding day.Ā
Over the years, Mal’s family has opened a few bottles for specialĀ occasions, but they recently started to worry that the bottles were past their prime. Mal decided to open a bottle for his 27th birthday just to make sure they weren’t letting an amazing bottle of wine lose its drinkability. Ā
About Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste
From wineaccess.com
This Fifth Growth chateau, located on the left bank of the Gironde, produces a concentrated, polished wine, with classic Pauillac notes of dark berries, plum, spices and earth. Bottlings are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, which benefits from the deep gravel topsoil with a limestone basis. Thanks to the structure provided by these Cabernet grapes, the wines generally outperform their classification and are highly suited for lengthy aging. The output from the 135-acre chateau has been extremely consistent in recent years. The estate produces a second wine called Lacoste-Borie.
The wine tasted delicious to me tonight! š
Mal’s birth wine is a deep red color, incredibly smooth, and full-bodied with flavors of plum and dark berries. I really enjoyed this wine, especially in the company of good friends and beautiful spring weather. I savored each and every sip and soaked in theĀ atmosphereĀ of the evening. š What a way to finish off Mal’sĀ birthdayĀ celebration!Ā
Back to the grind tomorrow! I hope you enjoyed the long weekend, bloggies!Ā
