Glad It’s Tuesday

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

I’m so happy it’s Tuesday today! I don’t think I could have handled a full work week after the 3-day weekend I had! Holy busy!

I started my day with a delicious Strawberry Vanilla Chai smoothie, which was made with fresh strawberries, yogurt, vanilla soy milk, ice, and a packet of Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer (vanilla chai flavor).

The Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer is made from natural plant-based whole foods. It’s high in fiber, protein, and essential fatty acids (more nutritional info).

The vanilla chai flavor was delicious! It had a nice strong flavor and blended well into the other ingredients without that weird chalky texture/flavor.

With my smoothie, I also made a Van’s waffle with peanut butter smeared on top.

With a multivitamin…

Question of the Day

What are your favorite smoothie ingredients? If you have a favorite recipe, please share! 😀

  1. Girl, I hear you – I don’t know what I would have done if it was only Monday today! My fave smoothie recipe is simply a frozen banana, peanut butter and milk…so simple – so delicious! Have a great day back!

  2. 1/2 frozen banana
    1 cup soymilk/ water
    1 cup frozen berries
1 scoop whichever protein powder I happen to have on hand

this recipe is SO SIMPLE and can be changed to incorporate so many flavors that it never gets old, and always come out the perfect consistency

Hope you have a great day!

  3. I always use yoghurt, never milk. Too many great bacterias/probiotics in the stuff (if you are eating the real stuff)to pass it up. Peaches and raspberries are fantastic together. I usually throw in whatever is around. Always keep frozen fruit (with no added sugar) in the freezer, so a smoothie is always just a few minutes away.

A great way for people who arn’t good at eating fuit, to still get it in. Yet to meet a person who doesn’t like a smoothie.

I don’t eat smoothies unless I make them, due to the fact that smoothie companies often fill them with unneccesary calories and sugar.

  4. I have wanted to try that protein powder. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about it. That smoothie looks delicious.

  5. If I am in the mood if a green monster, the combo is: banana + spinach+ flax seeds+ almond milk. If I am in a mood for a normal smoothie: Pineapple+ FFyogurt + Banana + water

    Your smoothie looks just awesome!!

  6. That smoothie looks DELICIOUS!!! Do you find if you just consume a smoothie for breakfast you are a lot hungrier sooner in the morning?? That is my hesitation with them..

  7. i’m glad it’s Tuesday, too 🙂

I love green smoothies with milk, spinach, 1/2 banana and some pb or almond butter.

    or chocolate strawberry/cherry smoothies.

  8. I have been having a smoothie for breakfast for almost 3 months now and it has become my favorite meal of the day! I mix it up, but one of my favorites (and most often repeated) is 1 ripe banana+ground flaxseed+wheat germ+2 cups spinach+3/4 cup strawberries+1/2 cup blueberries+1/2 cup skim milk=nutritious and delicious. with yogurt and a couple dates on the side is a great breakfast.

  9. Any kind of smoothies with strawberries are my fav! Otherwise I very rarely drink smoothies..I guess I prefer to eat my calories rather than drink! That’s just me though =)

  10. I love adding oats and almond butter. They give the smoothie staying power without the cost of protein powder. I usually do: frozen fruit, oats, AB and skim milk.

  11. What a great breakfast! My favorite smoothie: frozen banana (or frozen strawberries), chocolate soy milk, ice 🙂

  12. I’m so happy that it’s Tuesday also!!

My fav smoothie as of late:

    1 banana
    1(ish) c. unsweetened almond milk
    1 tbsp almond butter
    generous dash cinnamon
1 tsp. maple syrup or agave
    2 tsp. chia/hemp seed mix
    5 or 6 ice cubes

So delicious and keeps me going in the morning 🙂

  13. My favorite smoothie is the combo of chocolate + PB + banana. I use the Spirutein chocolate peanut butter protein powder blended with some milk and a frozen banana. I have lots of others though, that one is just numero uno 😉

  14. – half or whole frozen banana
    – lots and lots of spinach
    – SOGOOD vanilla chai drink
    – icecubes
    – water
    – cinnamon
    – a dollup of almond butter or honey

    yum 🙂

  15. My favorite smoothie for summer is:
    1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 cup of plain non-fat yogurt
    2tbsp of flaxseed
    1tbsp of oatbran
1 packet of Carnation Instant Breakfast, No Sugar Added Vanilla
    1tsp of honey
    1/2 cup of milk

  16. I have two favorite smoothies! Here’s #1:
-1 container of O’soy strawberry (or peach) soy yogurt
    -1 cup frozen mixed berries
    -1 tbsp. agave
    -1 cup vanilla soy
    -1 tbsp flax seed

    And #2…
-1 tbsp reduced fat peanut butter
    -1 banana
-1 packet of sugar free swiss miss hot cocoa mix
    -1 cup vanilla soy milk

Both of these smoothies fill me up so much and taste great. My boyfriend loves the second one, so much in fact that he bought soy milk for the first time ever!

  17. Does anyone have a suggestion for a smoothie recipe that compliments peanut or almond butter, but does not use banana? Every PB recipe I find has banana in it. And I also want the PB flavor to still come through. Thanks!

  18. My very favorite smoothie:

    1 cup of 1% milk
    1/4 cup of canned pumpkin
    dash of cinnamon
1/2 scoop (15 grams) Vanilla Designer whey protein powder.

Thinking of trying this with cranberries when they are available in the fall.

  19. I prefer pretty simple smoothies. I do either just fruit and milk and usually add in some vanilla flavored protein powder. If I need it to have extra staying power, I may add in some canola oil and oats.

  20. I just had a great smoothie the other day and ordered a big container to make more (I had a packet)….
    Pina Colada Spiru-tein
    Frozen Mango
    Almond or Hemp Milk
and soy Yogurt if I have any on hand

I also like the combo with just plain vanilla protein powder with flax and wheat germ

  21. Hi Tina! I just wanted to let you know that you were the very FIRST blog I ever read and you have inspired me to run longer, eat better and always keep a positive attitude! In fact, just yesterday I started my own blog which you can now find at I hope that my blog will someday (probably not anytime soon) be as interesting, motivating, and full of joy for life as yours is. Thank you for sharing your food and fitness thoughts and ideas 🙂

  22. I have discovered my favorite base formula for smoothies, which is just lightly sweet, and then you can add anything depending on what flavor you’re craving. Basically, it’s just

1 huge handful organic salad greens/spinach
    1 tsp flax seeds
1/2-1 cup sweetened vanilla almond/soy/coconut milk
    about 6 ice cubes

If I’m using unsweetened milk, I’ll toss in some fruit or protein powder, but yeah this formula has been great for my first experiments with green smoothies!

  23. Tropical Goodness – great after a workout to rejuvenate!

    1 Mango (canned or fresh!)
    1 Banana
    1 can cubed pineapple
    Splash of skim milk
    6 Ice cubes
    Flax seeds to your liking!

  24. I think I add different ingredients to my smoothies nearly every time I make them but lately I’ve been doing the green smoothie thing a lot. My standard smoothies ALWAYS involve frozen banana though. One of my favourite recent smoothies actually had apple and clementine which I was surprisingly delighted by!

  25. I love a breakfast smoothie with:
    1/2 banana
    1/2- 2/3 C almond milk
    handful of frozen cranberries
    several big handfuls of spinach
1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder
    1 tsp spirulina

I call it a “Shrek Smoothie” because I like to name my green monsters. 😛

For a snack, I do the same thing but substitute a sweeter frozen berry and omit the chocolate protein powder. (The cranberry/ chocolate combo is to die for though.)

  26. Mine is:
Packet/scoop spirutein double choc fudge protein powder
1/2 FROZEN banana (makes such a creamy consistency!
    4 ice cubes
    1 c almond/soy/1 % milk

sometimes spinach if i feel risky 😀 Congrats on your 1/2 that is soo awesome!

  27. O.J
    fozen Blueberries and strawberries
    1-2 dates
    Berry flavor Vega Boost

YUMS i MUST get the chai flavor!!!!

  28. Green monsters all the way (yay for Oh She Glows!)My base recipe is:
as much baby spinach as I can cram into my food processor
cup of almond or soy milk
    1/2 cup frozen blueberries
    1 banana
    2 tablespooons ground flaxseed
    1/2 cup frozen pineapple

Plus anything else that might be available. Today I added half cup of shredded carrots that were about to go bad. Yum!

  29. It’s hard for me to choose, as I have likely made thousands of combinations, but I really like this one:
    1 cup frozen mango
    1 cup unsweetened soymilk
    1/2 cup water
4 T. Vanilla Spice Hemp Protein (Living Harvest)
    1 packet stevia
    4-5 ice cubes

  30. It’s pretty awesome having nutrition as my life. I always tell people when they ask me what kind of supplements to take. Start with the basics and get some whey protein as a body building supplement then if you want, try an EFA stack for weight loss. As always throw in a multivitamin.
