What a beautiful day for a long run along the Charles River!
I really loved my 10-mile run this morning. I’m pretty sure I had a goofy-ass smile plastered on my face for the entire time!
My morning started with my usual pre-long run breakfast: nut butter (today it was sunflower butter) and banana slices on a toast. This breakfast never lets me down.
I rocked my new Road ID on my run this morning. I’ve been meaning to get one for awhile now, so when the nice folks at Road ID offered to send me one for free, I took them up on their offer. I mean, I do a lot of long runs on my own, so I should really have one. I actually felt a lot safer wearing it on my run today.
Printed on my Road ID is my name, emergency phone numbers (Mal and my mom), and CARPE DIEM, which is my life motto.
Our running group didn’t meet this week, but Mal and I still decided to drive to South Boston, so we could run around the Charles River. It was such a gorgeous morning; I’m so glad that we did!
Mal and I started together at D Street at West Broadway in Southie. We ran down Summer Street through Downtown Crossing to Boston Common. (Here’s the full route.)
Mal only planned to run 6 miles, so once we hit Boston Common, he took off at his insanely fast pace.
About 3.5 miles into my 10-mile run, Mal lapped me just before the Mass Ave bridge. I’m telling ya, he’s speed demon!
I cruised along for the rest of my run and enjoyed the scenery along the Charles. It was so pretty this morning! It was also really motivating to see so many other runners out there!
The rest of my run took me over the Mass Ave bridge, along the Charles towards the Museum of Science, around Boston Common once again, and then back to D Street.
Around Mile 6, I found a water fountain and ate a package of watermelon Chomps. I didn’t bring water with me, so I ended stopping at every water fountain that I saw along the Charles. Thankfully, there were quite a few!
I ended up keeping my pace just below 9-minute miles, which I’m pretty psyched about. I’ve come a long way since this time last year!
- Mile 1: 9:05
- Mile 2: 8:36
- Mile 3: 8:49
- Mile 4: 8:48
- Mile 5: 8:35
- Mile 6: 8:54
- Mile 7: 8:58
- Mile 8: 8:59
- Mile 9: 8:47
- Mile 10: 8:41
Total: 1:28:19 (8:50)
At home, I refueled with an iced coffee mixed with vanilla protein powder and soy milk. Delish.
I’m spending the rest of the afternoon eating. Booyah.
