4th of July Weekend

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

Hi, friends! How was your 4th of July weekend? Mine was really nice. Mal, Q, Murphy, and I spent it at my in-law’s house, so there was lots of quality family time and plenty of fun. And, of course, all sorts of delicious eats! The Hauperts do it right when it comes to food!

My in-laws hosted a family get-together on Friday afternoon for the 4th.

There was so much delicious food!

My plate + an additional two pieces of brown bread because I was obsessed with it. It was so soft and cake-y, almost like a muffin. I raved about it to my my mother-in-law and asked for the recipe, so she let me in on a little secret…

The brown bread came from a can! You just cut off the ends, push out the loaf of bread, and heat it up. Simple as that!

Dessssssert! Man, I ate so much cake this past weekend. It was awesome.

We broke out baby pictures of Mal to compare to Q. As expected, they look almost identical!

Saturday morning started with a delicious pancake breakfast complete with bacon!

Speaking of pancakes and bacon, this is pure genius…

The rest of Saturday was spent hanging out by the pool. I enjoyed a couple of cocktails, including a super simple, 3-ingredient sangria, which tasted incredible!

Grill-ables for lunch!

Gretta the Frenchie.

More cake! I ate this plate x 2 + cake after dinner.

Q loved hanging out by the pool. He loved the fresh air and snoozed most of the afternoon.

Pool hang.

Murphy loved dipping his butt in the pool to cool off.

A lazy morning was followed by a trip to Kimball Farm for ice cream! (Q and Murphy stayed home with their Mimi.)

I went with my absolute favorite flavor (Almond Joy) and, of course, it tasted AMAZING! I seriously acted like a kid while eating this! Haha!

After ice cream, we played 9 holes of mini golf. Mal got a hole-in-one!

And the afternoon ended with an incredible taco salad from Chipotle. YUM!

Question of the Day

How was your 4th of July weekend?

What is your #1 favorite flavor of ice cream?

Are you any good at mini golf?

  1. Looks like a great weekend! I spent the long weekend up north at my family home enjoying the beautiful weather, water and good food.
My favorite ice cream is cookie dough …mint chocolate chip is a close second!

  2. I can’t believe you guys came all the way up here for Kimball’s…I grew up right near there so I guess I never realized how far people will travel for it! The bumper boats, golf and animals probably add to the whole ice cream experience though. Glad you had fun 🙂

  3. Almond joy would be up there! Just made fresh vanilla toasted pecan and toasted coconut flake the other night…so good! Chocolate chips definitely in the mix next time too though! He’s looking so much bigger already!

  4. The 4th was awesomely low-key. Just enjoyed San Francisco as it was kind of deserted for the Holiday weekend. My favorite ice cream – that is impossible to name just one – probably Phish Food (Ben and Jerrys), Cookie Dough, and anything caramel-y.

Also, agree with others – your newborn is amazingly cute.

  5. your weekend looked incredible!! So delicious and so much fun.
P.S. I call my grandma “mimi” too 🙂

  6. I can’t count how many times I’ve gone to make that pan-bacon combo but just haven’t for some reason. Must rectify that…Sunday…because it’s Sunday breakfast and now it just seems mandatory.

Favorite ice cream is probably a tie between dark chocolate or the Biscoff ice cream I made in which everyone about mauled me trying to get more. Time to break out the ice cream maker again! 🙂

  7. The 4th Weekend went by wayyy way too fast. Before I knew it I was getting ready for bed on Sunday night! I tried to keep it pretty low key – long runs with my running partner and hanging out at home watching movies. We did buy a new dishwasher! (Its sad that I find that exciting, haha!)

#1 favorite ice cream? Oh boy…Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked or mint chocolate chip (the green colored kind, not the white kind! haha!) or chocolate chip cookie dough. yum!

I can’t remember the last time I mini-golfed so no clue!

Looks like you had a great weekend! Q is seriously cute!

  8. All the food looks great and Q is SO adorable! I’m surprised Murphy will get in the water–my pug wants nothing to do with the pool! He does love sitting by it and barking at airplanes and anything that flies though…

      1. @Tina: We grew up on it! Supper would be baked beans, hot dogs and brown bread! We would slice our bread and toast it in the toaster. YUM! Sometimes all I can find is the one with raisins in it and it makes me sad.

  9. I think it’s amazing you’re getting out and about so much with a newborn – you must be super organized! Q has such a peaceful serene look in that photo – he is gorgeous! Do the Hauperts see more of Mal or you in him?

And that chocolate cake looks scrumptious – what flavor is it? Yum!

  10. Oh my goodness, digging into the memory bank! I’ve totally been to one of those Kimball Farm locations for ice cream! I live in Washington State but I have family all over New England and we must have stopped in for ice cream when we visited. Your photo of the Kimball Farm ice cream window there reminded me! Wow, that was a tiny glimmer of a memory, thanks for reminding me!

  11. Where I went to college, there was this little shack that sold frozen custard. They had this amazing black cherry flavor. It was seriously to die for. The next time I went back after graduation, it was closed. 🙁 Tragic.

  12. Looks like such a fun weekend! I was so happy to see that brown bread lol…. I have memories of eating it as a kid (hot dogs, beans, and brown bread) but haven’t seen it in years!! 🙂

Favorite ice-cream is definitely chocolate peanut butter cup! Yummm!

  13. My son looks just like my husband too! Blond hair blue eyes and pale while I am brown hair and eyes and medium skin tone. Between Q, the Frenchie, and Murphy so much cuteness!!

  14. What an adorable baby! Are you nursing? I couldn’t leave my baby for over a month because of how often he nursed!

  15. Looks like a great weekend! I’ve never heard of brown bread before, however, I have seen bread made in a can! My bf’s grandma actually bakes breads like banana bread in a can and its the best. I had never seen anything like that before until I met him and now I’ve seen that you can actually buy the bread in the can! This is just fabulous!! Haha “)

  16. I do play mini golf. I use the term ‘play’ loosely. My husband plays. I try and lose.

As for ice cream, I LOVE simple strawberry. Hagen Daaz strawberry is amazing. A local (regional I think) Gifford’s Ice Cream does an amazing version as well. Simple girl with simple likes I guess.

    Happy belated 4th!

  17. bread in a can?! I have never heard of that! Also, that fruit flag is genuis! I want to make that next year! 🙂 I just got back from a week at the beach in Delaware and we went to this AMAZING ice cream place- I got a flavor that was cake batter with caramel and fudge and cookie dough. Seriously the best combo of flavors you could ever invent 🙂

  18. I used to work down the street from Kimball’s, it was bad as an ice cream lover, my favorite would be something with PB or cookies and cream but I also love coffee its hard to choose! We have a place a few towns over (https://www.facebook.com/NasonsStoneHouseFarmInc?rf=163196707137069)that make brown bread and beans and its so good, the brown bread toasted with a little butter is yummy, also eating your beans on top of your brown bread is a must!

  19. Oh my gosh, all that food looks amazing!! I know I wouldn’t have been able to resist stuffing my face all weekend. But that’s what holidays are for, right? I can’t even handle bacon pancakes. It’s just…so good!

  20. Hi, Tina, I’ve recently started reading regularly. I am almost 39 weeks with my first, so it has been interesting to follow the last bit of your pregnancy & your first weeks of motherhood. First of all, you look awesome (!) and seem like a relatively relaxed mom (in a good way!) — just seems like you are handling the transition well. It makes me feel much better about this huge life change we are about to have. Looks like you& Mal still have plenty of fun, time together, etc. 🙂 I just have this mental image about how stressed/frazzled/miserable the first several weeks will be and you seem to not fit that picture. Also enjoyed your birth story — hope mine happens the same!

  21. My weekend ended up being really great after an unexpected trip to stay with my dad (big storm = no power = running home to Dad!). My daughter got to play in the lake for the first time & took her first boat ride! So much fun.

I loooove Mackinac Island Fudge ice cream.

I couldn’t be worse at Mini Golf. Anything that requires any sort of coordination is not my jam.

  22. Tina, I love your positive attitude and motivational, upbeat posts and instagrams lately! Seriously, it’s so awesome to see you guys welcome your first babe into the world and you all seem so happy, like a great team. I’m also blown away by how active you stayed during your pregnancy. You look amazing. Your blog is my favorite!

  23. Hey Tina!! Loved that you had lots of cake!! Sometimes I forget that’s okay! I love what you said a while back that you feel happiest when you don’t think about food and just enjoy it… Thanks for the reminder you truly are an inspiration to me, I can tell you don’t take life to seriously! You are fabulous!
P.S. Quinn is beautiful! Well done mom and dad! ❤️
