Good morning, friends!
As you might remember, I am working with Kohls on their Make Your Move campaign, which is all about moving more, stressing less, and eating and sleeping better. For my first post, I shared how I plan to move more in 2015. My second post was about our Happiness Board, which helps me stress less and be more positive in my everyday life. This post is all about my favorite kitchen tools that help me eat better. They motivate me to make healthy choices and prepare food that is both nutritious and delicious.
Ramekins are probably my #1 kitchen tool when it comes to healthy eating. As you guys know, I’m not one to skip out on my favorite foods, so ramekins help me keep my portions in check. Ben & Jerry’s ice cream? Granola? Chocolate chips + almonds? I throw them in a ramekin for instant portion control. Ramekins are also great for making mini desserts in the microwave, like Blueberry Pie for One, Peanut Butter Cookie for One, 3-Minute Oatmeal Raisin Cookie, and Brownie In A
Mug Ramekin just to name a few. I own this 4-piece ramekin set, but Kohls sells all sorts of ramekins in different colors, shapes, sizes, and designs.
I use my oil mister ALL the time– pretty much every week when I roast veggies during my Sunday prep. Instead of dousing my veggies in oil, I just spritz them with my oil mister before I put them in the oven. A new favorite is roasted Russet potatoes. Here’s how I cook them: Just cut a potato in half, spritz each side with olive oil, and cook it face down on a baking sheet for 20-25 minutes on 375 degrees F. So easy. And delicious with buffalo sauce (obviously) and blue cheese crumbles. Just saying. I also love using my oil mister to make a quickie salad dressing. I just spritz my salad with olive oil and then pour on a little balsamic vinegar and/or mustard. Easy-peasy and so delicious. I have this Prepara Deluxe Oil Mister, but I like this one better because it comes in fun, bright colors!
Veggetti Spiral Vegetable Slicer
I’ve raved about my Veggetti Spiral Vegetable Slicer on CNC in the past, and I still love it so much. You can turn veggies into spaghetti in no time! (My favorites are zucchini, summer squash, and carrots.) Unlike other spiralizers, the Veggetti doesn’t take up half of your counter space. It’s small and tucks away in my kitchen drawer. It comes with an awesome recipe guide with so many great ideas inside, and it is dishwasher safe, so I don’t spend a lot of time cleaning the leftover veggie gunk out of it.
Glass storage bowls
Glass storage bowl are another kitchen tool that I use all the time. (I have a set like these ones.) Since they’re made of glass, they resist stains and odors, and you can just pop them in the microwave when you want to reheat your food, like I do with my Crazy Easy Crock Pot Oatmeal. These storage bowls are also oven-, dishwasher-, and freezer-safe, so they are super versatile and allow for all sorts of cooking, serving, and storage use. Plus, you can see exactly what’s inside and they look nice and neat in my fridge after a good, old Sunday prep! It’s motivating to just see healthy food in my refrigerator!
Oh, how I love my Ninja! I have the model that comes with two single-serve tumblers, so I can just throw together a quick smoothie whenever a craving strikes. I’ve actually started adding the ingredients to the tumbler the night before or in the morning before a workout, so all I have to do is blend it. No excuses! And now that Quinn is eating solids, I share my smoothies with him, which is a fun way to get more nutrients into both of our diets. Both the tumblers and blending jar are dishwasher safe, which makes clean-up a breeze. Side note: You can supposedly make juice in the Ninja, but I still prefer my NutriPro Cold Press Juicer.
Cake stand? Yes indeed! I can’t remember where we got our 3-tier cake stand, but it’s perfect for displaying fresh fruit and veggies on our kitchen counter. Seeing fresh produce every time I walk into our kitchen is a constant reminder to eat it up. Plus, the colorful fruits and veggies really brighten up our kitchen. I love this 2-tier glass cake stand from Kohls. Similarly, a gorgeous fruit bowl on your kitchen counter will likely help you eat better too. I love this lattice design one as well as this simple stainless steel one.
Similar to our cake stand, I love our berry baskets for displaying fresh fruits and veggies inside our refrigerator. After I wash our produce (usually fruit), I put it inside one of our berry baskets for easy snacking. We actually had clementines in ours last week just because Mal and I like to eat them cold. These baskets are also great for parties and entertaining because they add a fun pop of color to your food spread. This berry basket from Kohls comes in four different colors and is on sale right now!
