• 4th of July Weekend

    July 7, 2014

Hi, friends! How was your 4th of July weekend? Mine was really nice. Mal, Q, Murphy, and I spent it at my in-law’s house, so there was lots of quality family time and plenty of fun. And, of course, all sorts of delicious eats! The Hauperts do it right when it comes to food!

My in-laws hosted a family get-together on Friday afternoon for the 4th.

There was so much delicious food!

My plate + an additional two pieces of brown bread because I was obsessed with it. It was so soft and cake-y, almost like a muffin. I raved about it to my my mother-in-law and asked for the recipe, so she let me in on a little secret…

The brown bread came from a can! You just cut off the ends, push out the loaf of bread, and heat it up. Simple as that!

Dessssssert! Man, I ate so much cake this past weekend. It was awesome.

We broke out baby pictures of Mal to compare to Q. As expected, they look almost identical!

Saturday morning started with a delicious pancake breakfast complete with bacon!

Speaking of pancakes and bacon, this is pure genius…

The rest of Saturday was spent hanging out by the pool. I enjoyed a couple of cocktails, including a super simple, 3-ingredient sangria, which tasted incredible!

    Grill-ables for lunch!

    Gretta the Frenchie.

More cake! I ate this plate x 2 + cake after dinner.

Q loved hanging out by the pool. He loved the fresh air and snoozed most of the afternoon.

    Pool hang.

Murphy loved dipping his butt in the pool to cool off.

A lazy morning was followed by a trip to Kimball Farm for ice cream! (Q and Murphy stayed home with their Mimi.)

    SAM_1071 (800x533)

I went with my absolute favorite flavor (Almond Joy) and, of course, it tasted AMAZING! I seriously acted like a kid while eating this! Haha!

After ice cream, we played 9 holes of mini golf. Mal got a hole-in-one!

And the afternoon ended with an incredible taco salad from Chipotle. YUM!

Your baby is without a doubt one of the cutest newborns i’ve ever seen!

    Tina July 7, 2014 at 4:50 pm

    Aww, thank you! ❤️

    Brynn July 7, 2014 at 3:51 pm

Looks like a great weekend! I spent the long weekend up north at my family home enjoying the beautiful weather, water and good food.
My favorite ice cream is cookie dough …mint chocolate chip is a close second!

    Michele @ paleorunningmomma July 7, 2014 at 3:51 pm

Bacon pancakes? Yes, genius! Those cakes look awesome too. Looks like you had just about a perfect weekend 🙂 The pool photos are precious!

    Ashley July 7, 2014 at 3:52 pm

I can’t believe you guys came all the way up here for Kimball’s…I grew up right near there so I guess I never realized how far people will travel for it! The bumper boats, golf and animals probably add to the whole ice cream experience though. Glad you had fun 🙂

    Tina July 7, 2014 at 4:16 pm

My in-laws live about a mile away! 🙂

Stephanie @ My Freckled Life July 7, 2014 at 3:56 pm

Q is so adorable!! Looks like a great holiday weekend! My favorite ice cream flavor is probably mint chocolate chip. But only if it’s green. Something about white mint chocolate chip just isn’t the same…

    Shel@PeachyPalate July 7, 2014 at 3:56 pm

Almond joy would be up there! Just made fresh vanilla toasted pecan and toasted coconut flake the other night…so good! Chocolate chips definitely in the mix next time too though! He’s looking so much bigger already!

Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona July 7, 2014 at 3:57 pm

Looks like there was no shortage of food. Everything looks delicious!

Laura @ She Eats Well July 7, 2014 at 4:11 pm

The 4th was awesomely low-key. Just enjoyed San Francisco as it was kind of deserted for the Holiday weekend. My favorite ice cream – that is impossible to name just one – probably Phish Food (Ben and Jerrys), Cookie Dough, and anything caramel-y.

Also, agree with others – your newborn is amazingly cute.

    mollie k July 7, 2014 at 4:14 pm

your weekend looked incredible!! So delicious and so much fun.
P.S. I call my grandma “mimi” too 🙂

Anele @ Success Along the Weigh July 7, 2014 at 4:17 pm

I can’t count how many times I’ve gone to make that pan-bacon combo but just haven’t for some reason. Must rectify that…Sunday…because it’s Sunday breakfast and now it just seems mandatory.

Favorite ice cream is probably a tie between dark chocolate or the Biscoff ice cream I made in which everyone about mauled me trying to get more. Time to break out the ice cream maker again! 🙂

    Molly July 7, 2014 at 4:55 pm

The 4th Weekend went by wayyy way too fast. Before I knew it I was getting ready for bed on Sunday night! I tried to keep it pretty low key – long runs with my running partner and hanging out at home watching movies. We did buy a new dishwasher! (Its sad that I find that exciting, haha!)

#1 favorite ice cream? Oh boy…Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked or mint chocolate chip (the green colored kind, not the white kind! haha!) or chocolate chip cookie dough. yum!

I can’t remember the last time I mini-golfed so no clue!

Looks like you had a great weekend! Q is seriously cute!

Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries July 7, 2014 at 4:56 pm

Looks like such a fun weekend! Lovin’ all the CAKE!

We had a super fun 4th of July weekend up north camping with family. It was Hunter’s first camping trip, so there were definitely some great memories.

Alex @ Kenzie Life July 7, 2014 at 5:20 pm

All the food looks great and Q is SO adorable! I’m surprised Murphy will get in the water–my pug wants nothing to do with the pool! He does love sitting by it and barking at airplanes and anything that flies though…

    Megan @ The Skinny-Life July 7, 2014 at 5:29 pm

Looks like you had a wonderful weekend! I’ve never seen bread in a can. That’s cool!

    Tina July 7, 2014 at 5:39 pm

    Me either! Haha!

Annie Atherton July 8, 2014 at 8:38 am

@Tina: We grew up on it! Supper would be baked beans, hot dogs and brown bread! We would slice our bread and toast it in the toaster. YUM! Sometimes all I can find is the one with raisins in it and it makes me sad.

    Tina July 8, 2014 at 8:59 am

We had baked beans and hot dogs too. So good!!

    Shelly July 7, 2014 at 5:43 pm

I think it’s amazing you’re getting out and about so much with a newborn – you must be super organized! Q has such a peaceful serene look in that photo – he is gorgeous! Do the Hauperts see more of Mal or you in him?

And that chocolate cake looks scrumptious – what flavor is it? Yum!

    Tina July 7, 2014 at 5:58 pm

Definitely Mal! He’s like a mini Mal! 😄

    Kaelene July 7, 2014 at 6:32 pm

That picture with Murphy and Mal in the pool is so adorable! Sounds like an awesome weekend with some delicious eats!

    Karen July 7, 2014 at 6:37 pm

Love the bacon pancakes……going to try this myself real soon.

    Sarah July 7, 2014 at 6:41 pm

Oh my goodness, digging into the memory bank! I’ve totally been to one of those Kimball Farm locations for ice cream! I live in Washington State but I have family all over New England and we must have stopped in for ice cream when we visited. Your photo of the Kimball Farm ice cream window there reminded me! Wow, that was a tiny glimmer of a memory, thanks for reminding me!

    Bezzymates July 7, 2014 at 6:47 pm

Wow. Baby is already getting nice and chubby.

    Amy July 7, 2014 at 6:56 pm

Where I went to college, there was this little shack that sold frozen custard. They had this amazing black cherry flavor. It was seriously to die for. The next time I went back after graduation, it was closed. 🙁 Tragic.

Katherine Baker July 7, 2014 at 6:58 pm

Looks like a great weekend!!! So happy your baby is doing well. Such a cute family you have 😀

Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves July 7, 2014 at 7:14 pm

Looks like such a fun weekend! My weekend involved lots of ice cream and cake too. Specifically, a Reese’s and Oreo ice cream cake. What?

    Tina July 7, 2014 at 7:17 pm

Julie @ Coastal Runner Girl July 7, 2014 at 7:42 pm

Looks like such a fun weekend! I was so happy to see that brown bread lol…. I have memories of eating it as a kid (hot dogs, beans, and brown bread) but haven’t seen it in years!! 🙂

Favorite ice-cream is definitely chocolate peanut butter cup! Yummm!

    sarA July 7, 2014 at 7:43 pm

My son looks just like my husband too! Blond hair blue eyes and pale while I am brown hair and eyes and medium skin tone. Between Q, the Frenchie, and Murphy so much cuteness!!

    Elle July 7, 2014 at 8:38 pm

What an adorable baby! Are you nursing? I couldn’t leave my baby for over a month because of how often he nursed!

    Tina July 7, 2014 at 11:54 pm

    Yep, every 1-3 hours! He’s a hungry boy! 😄

    Jaclyn @ BumpSweat July 7, 2014 at 8:52 pm

Mmm, almond joy ice cream sounds delicious! My favorite is strawberry with chocolate chunks 🙂

    Carly July 7, 2014 at 9:15 pm

Looks like a great weekend! I’ve never heard of brown bread before, however, I have seen bread made in a can! My bf’s grandma actually bakes breads like banana bread in a can and its the best. I had never seen anything like that before until I met him and now I’ve seen that you can actually buy the bread in the can! This is just fabulous!! Haha “)

    Megan L. July 7, 2014 at 9:26 pm

I do play mini golf. I use the term ‘play’ loosely. My husband plays. I try and lose.

As for ice cream, I LOVE simple strawberry. Hagen Daaz strawberry is amazing. A local (regional I think) Gifford’s Ice Cream does an amazing version as well. Simple girl with simple likes I guess.

    Happy belated 4th!

pj geek July 7, 2014 at 9:27 pm

That brown bread is dangerous. I can’t buy it I would eat the whole thing. sangria recipe please.

Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties July 7, 2014 at 10:53 pm

bread in a can?! I have never heard of that! Also, that fruit flag is genuis! I want to make that next year! 🙂 I just got back from a week at the beach in Delaware and we went to this AMAZING ice cream place- I got a flavor that was cake batter with caramel and fudge and cookie dough. Seriously the best combo of flavors you could ever invent 🙂

    jen July 8, 2014 at 12:03 am

I used to work down the street from Kimball’s, it was bad as an ice cream lover, my favorite would be something with PB or cookies and cream but I also love coffee its hard to choose! We have a place a few towns over (https://www.facebook.com/NasonsStoneHouseFarmInc?rf=163196707137069)that make brown bread and beans and its so good, the brown bread toasted with a little butter is yummy, also eating your beans on top of your brown bread is a must!

    Leigh July 8, 2014 at 1:07 am

Oh my gosh, all that food looks amazing!! I know I wouldn’t have been able to resist stuffing my face all weekend. But that’s what holidays are for, right? I can’t even handle bacon pancakes. It’s just…so good!

    Christen July 8, 2014 at 7:06 am

Hi, Tina, I’ve recently started reading regularly. I am almost 39 weeks with my first, so it has been interesting to follow the last bit of your pregnancy & your first weeks of motherhood. First of all, you look awesome (!) and seem like a relatively relaxed mom (in a good way!) — just seems like you are handling the transition well. It makes me feel much better about this huge life change we are about to have. Looks like you& Mal still have plenty of fun, time together, etc. 🙂 I just have this mental image about how stressed/frazzled/miserable the first several weeks will be and you seem to not fit that picture. Also enjoyed your birth story — hope mine happens the same!

    Tina July 8, 2014 at 7:22 am

Thanks for the sweet comment and reading CNC! ❤️Best of luck to you in the coming days!

Livi @ Eat, Pray, Work It Out July 8, 2014 at 7:08 am

Weekends with family are the best!!

Julie @ Running in aSkirt July 8, 2014 at 7:22 am

4th of July was at Lake Murray with my family and chocolate ice cream is my favorite. But I love all types!
Great to see you bouncing back after Q’s birth!! What an inspiration!

    Emily @ Fit as a Mother... July 8, 2014 at 8:43 am

Kimball’s is the best!! One of the things I miss about living in New Hampshire.

    Monica July 8, 2014 at 9:02 am

My weekend ended up being really great after an unexpected trip to stay with my dad (big storm = no power = running home to Dad!). My daughter got to play in the lake for the first time & took her first boat ride! So much fun.

I loooove Mackinac Island Fudge ice cream.

I couldn’t be worse at Mini Golf. Anything that requires any sort of coordination is not my jam.

    nickee July 8, 2014 at 9:03 am

Cute cute baby!! Also what is the 3 ingredient Sangria recipe? 🙂

    Tina July 8, 2014 at 9:10 am

Red wine, flavored San Pellegrino & lemon.

Sarah @ Sweet Miles July 8, 2014 at 9:17 am

So fun comparing baby pictures! Can’t wait to see who he looks like more once he gets a little bigger 🙂

Sara Thibodeaux July 8, 2014 at 9:36 am

Tina, I love your positive attitude and motivational, upbeat posts and instagrams lately! Seriously, it’s so awesome to see you guys welcome your first babe into the world and you all seem so happy, like a great team. I’m also blown away by how active you stayed during your pregnancy. You look amazing. Your blog is my favorite!

    Tina July 8, 2014 at 10:27 am

Aww, thank you for the sweet comment! ❤️

Chelsea @ Designs on Dinner July 8, 2014 at 11:19 am

Wow, looks like a great weekend! I didn’t even have ice cream this weekend (although we did have Rumchata & root beer, which was amazing), but my favorite flavor is mint chocolate brownie.

    Heidi July 8, 2014 at 1:08 pm

Hey Tina!! Loved that you had lots of cake!! Sometimes I forget that’s okay! I love what you said a while back that you feel happiest when you don’t think about food and just enjoy it… Thanks for the reminder you truly are an inspiration to me, I can tell you don’t take life to seriously! You are fabulous!
P.S. Quinn is beautiful! Well done mom and dad! ❤️

What a fun 4th of July weekend! My family went fishing and to the local parade and had a great time. It was my baby girl’s first fourth of July as well and we loved it!
