I guess there’s no turning back now with my kitchen-painting project!
Yesterday, Mal and I looked at color swatches and then selected four samples to try on our kitchen wall at home.
Our picks from Valspar:
- Gravity
- Voyage
- Drizzling Mist
- Bay Waves
Don’t ya just love the names? They all sound so elegant.
Left to right: Voyage, Gravity, Drizzling Mist, and Bay Waves.
Mal and I narrowed it down to Voyage and Drizzling Mist since they seem to best compliment the color of our counter tops and cabinets. We decided to “sleep on it,” but we really need to make a decision today since I’m supposed to start priming the walls tonight.
Which color would you pick – Voyage or Drizzling Mist?
Workout
I loved last night’s WOD. Check it out:
You could easily do this workout at home or at the gym. Just substitute the Handstand Push-Ups (HSPU) for regular push-ups.
I kept up with Mal for the Burpees (we both finished under 4 minutes – I wonder how many Burpees I could do in 7 minutes now?) and then I was just a few sit-ups behind him when he finished. (I love working out next to someone who pushes me.) We were both pretty steady on the Kettlebell Swings (he finished a few reps before me), but then he blew by me on the Pull-ups. Frickin’ pull-ups, they kill me every time—even with a band! I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO DO THEM ASAP (and stop being a wuss). I used bands for the Handstand Push-ups, which weren’t so bad (I broke them up into sets of 10)and finished the WOD in 17:24. Fun stuff.
Dinner
Last night’s dinner was inspired by a recipe that I found on the back of a package of Bob’s Red Mill whole wheat pearl couscous that the company sent me to sample awhile back.
It was for Whole Wheat Pearl Couscous with Pesto & Vegetables, but I sort of did my own thing. First, I made the basic pesto, which was 2 cups of fresh basil pureed with 1 minced clove of garlic, 2 tablespoons of sliced almonds, 1/2 cup of olive oil, 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, and a pinch of salt. So simple, so delicious.
While the couscous cooked on the stove top, I threw in a handful of broccoli to let it steam for a few minutes.
And then I added some chunked chicken breast and mixed it all together. DELISH!
After dinner, I enjoyed a small glass of chocolate milk for dessert. Mal’s been on a chocolate milk kick lately, so I gave it a whirl. I forgot how much I like it.
Be back soon with breakfast!
P.S. Jesse Pinkman fans: Check out this piece about young Aaron Paul on the “Price is Right” back in 1998. Omg, I love it.

VOYAGE!!
Voyage! Especially in the kitchen you want a lighter color for a more open and inviting feel.
Drizzling mist, for sure!!
I’m pushing for drizzling mist. The slightly darker color will provide a nice contrast to your lighter wood cabinets.
Hmm, that’s a toughie. I was going to say Drizzling Mist at first, but I think I’m actually leaning towards Voyage…I feel like D.M. might be too dark when all the walls are painted.
Voyage, hands down. It’s a great subtle blue/grey. I love the Drizzling Mist, but it’s dark and might be better in a smaller space or a space you don’t spend so much time in. I like kitchens light and bright! But, everything always looks different in person!
Definitely voyage. I think the lighter colour will be more complementary in the kitchen and I am a fan of lighter walls in the kitchen!
Voyage!
I think I’d go with Voyage over Drizzling Mist.
I’d never thought of pairing pesto with couscous, but I might have to now. Your dinner looks like it was delicious!
Drizzling mist! I think the lighter color is just a bit too light. It looks like it could be white.
I like Voyage because it goes great with the counter tops color
voyage.
Voyage would be my pick.
I’d pick voyage!
Drizzling Mist will make your kitchen look smaller especially if painting an entire room.
Woah, I’ve never seen anyone use bands for HSPU – how does that work? Sounds interesting! I don’t have very good depth on mine yet, so always looking for new tips
See comments above. I posted a video of it!
LOVE the recipe.. I keep wanting to make home-made pesto, and after reading thist post, it doesn’t seem too hard at all. As for paint, I actually really like the drizzling mist.. not too much color, but a bit bold!
what is HSPU?
Handstand Push-Ups.
@Tina: what are hand stand pushups? i mean… are they what i’m picturing? someone doing a handstand and then raising and lifting themselves? and what does it mean to you a band… this crossfit stuff is so confusing lol
Drizzling Mist. I think it picks up on some of the tones in the countertop. But I’m also a sucker for the grayish type colors. I think Voyage is too bright.
Like 95% of other commenters, I vote for Voyage.
Yes.. I’ve been wondering how the heck you do those pull-ups.. it kind of reminds me of the same body position and rhythm in the butterfly stroke (swimming)
voyage
Voyage
before i even saw you narrowed it down i loved Drizzling Mist. so that would be my pick!!
and you just reminded me how much i love pearl cous cous. and that i have some. might be in my dinner plans tonight. haha.
have a great weekend lady!!
I love Aaron and that is hysterical – as is the enclosed link to Gus!
You really should prime a section of the wall and then paint the samples. The red will bleed through and not accurately portray the sample colors. Good luck…it is going to look great!
Voyage or Bay waves!!!
My trainer is doing “the 1000 burpee challenge”, there is a 2hr time limit but raising money charity:-)
I vote voyage
