Murphy and I walked and walked and walked this afternoon. According to my Garmin, we covered 3.89 miles in 1:22:23.
Murph was such a rock star on our walk today. He even ran with me a number of times during it. We probably would have kept walking if the weather wasn’t so warm. Pugs can sometimes overheat and have trouble breathing in the warm weather, so I didn’t want to push him too much.
Murphy was so pooped when we got home.

But, I think he was sort of proud of himself, too!
Four miles is a long way for a little dog!

Lunch
I tried something new for lunch today: mashed cauliflower and asparagus with garlic and pesto. Mmm!

I had some leftover steamed cauliflower and asparagus in the refrigerator, so I threw them in my food processor with some olive oil, garlic, and store-bought pesto. The end result was delicious! It sort of tasted like cold pesto mashed potatoes.

I threw some wheatberries on top for some added chew.

I also enjoyed a sweet, crisp Gala apple with lunch.

And a Reese’s peanut butter egg from my Easter basket.

Snack
After walking for over an hour with Murphy, I was starving for a snack. As soon as I walked in the door, I made myself a PB & J on whole wheat bread and chowed it down. I didn’t even take a photo! Oops!
But, it tasted really good and satisfied my grumbling stomach.
New Shoes
I received a number of questions and comments about the black and white flats that I wore yesterday, so I snapped an up-close photo of them this afternoon.

They’re American Eagle brand canvas flats from Payless and they cost me just $16! (They were originally $19.99, but I had a coupon for 20% off!
)

I bought these flats, too!

Hehe, I love it when dogs get tired, it’s such a rare occurance….did you know hamsters in the wild run about 2miles a night!? It’s mental!
I loved that mashed cauliflower idea for your lunch, that sounds great!

Any time I walk Buddy for more than 30 minutes or so, he looks up at me like – what the hell are we DOING?! He’s more of a sprinter

You accomplished something! Another amazing innovative meal! That loosk so delicious – I really, really love the way you always come up with new things. It’s one of the reasons I keep comign back – you don’t post (and eat) the same-old, same-old every single day!
Yum, mashed cauliflower sounds so good
Love the idea of mashed cauliflower and pesto. What a great combination!
Cute shoes too.
I was so disappointed that I didn’t get any peanut butter eggs this year! They’re my favorite! Oh well…
Cute shoes!
I love walks with my dogs. They’re such great companions! I must get myself to a Payless ASAP–thanks for the tip!
Wow Murphy is an active pup. He’ll be running 5Ks soon
Wow way to go Murphy!
Your flats are adorable! I always hesitate to get AE flats though because once I got a pair and they gave me really bad blisters. Are they comfortable? I’d love to know if they’ve improved ver the years!
Those shoes are so cute! I love a good shoe bargain! Smashed cauliflower is great–I love it with some Parmesan.
That’s a lot of walking! I’ve always wanted to use my Garmin to see how much I’m walking around on campus.
Love the shoes
Took my chocolate lab for a 6.5 km walk Saturday- just as we were almost home she laid down in mud and rolled around to cool off… then had a cold bath when we got back and the water was BLACK!
Love the pic of Murphy!!! And I love the cauliflower idea! So healthy!
@Teri [a foodie stays fit]: @BostonRunner: Yes! They are like slippers!
your walk sounds amazing. I wish I could be outdoors today!
I have such a hard time finding ballet flats that are comfy- I am going to have to look into those!

Cute shoes!!
I LOVE taking long walks with my dogs…it turns them into such happy creatures! Happy and TIRED
cauliflower mash! very inventive! You come up with some cool recipes, where did you learn to be so creative in the kitchen?!
The first picture of Murphy is absolutely adorable! True puppy dog eyes. Lunch sounds good! I think this would also be good if you tried it with broccoli and hummus. Yumyum!
I love the pride dogs get after a great walk. Our dogs love long walks and then pass out after “smiling”.
awm way to go murphy!!! he looks like one happy pug
i really like the idea of mashed cauliflower and asparagus – definitely a must-try for this week sometime. i know what you mean about the day getting away. i don’t understand how i always have so much to do!
Murphy is so funny! He should definitely be proud of himself
The cauliflower mix looks stellar!
I love when you get such a deal like that!
I love the American Eagle shoes at payless… they are always so fun. I often get the Airwalk flipflops as well this time of year.
Congratulations to Murphy!!! What a great walk!
took my two toy poodles on a walk in the heat today and that’s about how they looked after. they have been sleeping ever since!
Hay sometimes when your starving their is no time for anything else, especially taking pics.
Go Murphy! What a rock star
He looks so cute all sprawled out on the floor.
We’re proud of you too Murphy!
cauliflower and pesto – i bet that would be delish!
Murphy is such a cutie!
your shoes and murphy are so cute
I just thought…..I wonder how many steps little Murphy took in your 4 mile walk…..with those little legs, probably like 1/2 a million!!

I love your dog!! Hes sooooo cute! I’m hoping to get a dog this summer so I can be more active outside. If I have a dog I wont be able to make excuses to not go for a run!
Love your black & white flats – such a score!
Murph is pretty much the cutest dog ever.
Cute shoes!! I am normally not a shoe person but those look really nice!
I like that they are black and white which means they can go with a lot of outfits.
I LOVEEE me some payless shoes! But the only thing is that they sometimes hurt my feet cause of the lack of proper cushioning! How are these holding up?
If you like Gala apples, and haven’t already, try a Pacific Rose. They are SO pretty and they’re crisp and sweet/tart and fantastic smothered in peanut butter.
I love them. My local grocery carries them for a ridiculous $2.99/pound, but a nearby Walmart had them for $1.17/pound. I bought 4 pounds and am in apple heaven.
Love those shoes!!!
