Typical Guy’s Meal
Last night, I ate leftovers for dinner, which, to me, were not nearly as “post-worthy” as what Mal ate. His dinner actually cracked me up because it was such a typical guy’s meal: an enormous plate of white pasta, Parmesan, and butter on top of 4 “chicken” breasts. It was a huge mound of un-colorful food! Mal pretty much ate it all, too!
And, of course, the typical guy’s meal would not be complete without The Champagne of Beers!
So, here’s where Mal dinner was not the typical guy meal. His “chicken” breasts were actually Quorn Meatless and Soy-free Naked Chik’n Cutlets, which are “meat alternatives” made with mycoprotein. Mal loves Quorn’s Chik’n Nuggets, so he was more than willing to try the Cutlets and provide a review for the blog.
Mal’s Review:
- Taste: “Wicked good! It doesn’t taste like real chicken, but it’s good. It’s kind of it’s own thing. These would be great in a chicken sandwich or grilled with BBQ sauce. If you made Chicken Parmesan with these cutlets, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.”
- Texture: “Good texture. Almost the same as chicken. Pretty moist, but not really juicy.”
- Preparation: “Easy. Just brush each side of the cutlets with olive oil and cook in toaster oven for 20 minutes. When they start to look liked grilled chicken breasts, they are done.”

That gigantic plate of pasta brings me back to my pasta dinner pre-meet nights in high school when we would eat probably 3,000 cals worth of buttery breadsticks and white pasta. Wow.

Mmmm… I just looove pasta, and chicken meat I most often go for! I’ll definitely try this one, but I think I’ll prepare it for lunch, cause it’s too much calories for an evening meal
Of course, my portion would be significantly smaller
Thanks for the idea.

hahahhahahahahah. Looks like a Josh meal (except I would have to really force him to eat the fake meat vs. the real stuff). Guys crack me up!

Mal’s photo face makes me wish he was my husband’s best friend.

he’s so funny – and i love the “guy” meal. my husband’s plate looked pretty similar last night, too. TONS of pasta – like at least 2 servings worth – plus veggies, and he still “needed” 6 oreos and a glass of milk after.

Hahaha, great post! My boyfriend eats the exact same way sometimes – and other times, he just wants a salad for dinner (so envious of the intuitive eating thing he has going on). I recently overheard a girl at a restaurant telling her (slender) boyfriend that he was eating too much, his order of pasta was unhealthy, etc…I am all for wanting your sig other to be healthy but I was appalled that someone would be that controlling! Besides guys have different caloric needs and some refined cabs aren’t going to kill anyone.

That is SUCH a guy meal!!!

That is a very typical `guy`meal, something my fiance would love!

Hahaha, Miller High Life in a bottle? At least it’s not a 40oz-er!

the onion cheese french bread casserole isn’t exactly colorful either

Ahaha, I feel so guilty that I would probably love his typical guys’ meal! “Wicked good” indeed.

Haha – definitely guy food. I still haven’t tried the quorn products, but they’re on my list! Maybe John will try them if I show him this post

How can one person consume so much at one sitting!! That’s so funny, his meal is SO a man’s meal! No colors, no veggies!

haha that’s so funny. I always love seeing the “his” and “her” meals that show up on blogs. those chick’n breasts look good though! I may have to check that out!

I’ve been scared to try quorn, but after reading Mal’s review, I think I might buy some! I figure if a guy likes fake meat, it can’t be that bad.

I want to drive head first into that white pasta!
on May 13th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
Hahaha…I meant “dive”…not “drive”. ^_^

lol Mal’s face in the first cracks me up! I love those quorn chik’n breasts. It’s nice to have a meatless alternative that isn’t made with soy. I’ve tried them with tj’s bbq sauce and they were so good!!

Quorn cutlets are so good! I couldn’t imagine eating the whole box though, while low in calories they are quite expensive! Although I think I read that you got them for free…the garlic and herb breaded ones are also great for chicken parm dishes.

That’s awesome!haha
His face in the pic is really funny!! hehehe
Have a great night!

That plate of pasta reminds me of something I would have eaten in high school. Yum!!

I love ‘guy’ food! Mal’s face is hysterical!
on May 13th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
Haha!! Mal cracks me up! Maybe I’ll try the Quorn if they don’t taste like chicken. I get freaked when vegetarian products try to replicate the actual meat.

Love the “guy’s colorless meal” and the review!

Those Quorn cutlets look really good! I’ve been wondering about those. Even though we know the ‘typical man’s meal’ isn’t the healthiest…it sure looks good! I guess I haven’t had white pasta in sooo long but do recall its starchy deliciousness!

I love the Quorn garlic & herb chik’n cutlets. I’ve never had the “grilled” kind. I’m impressed that they look grilled!
