It’s Wednesday

May 20, 2009

Good morning, folks! :-) Happy Hump Day! Does anyone else feel like it should be Friday? Or at least Thursday? This week is draaaaaggging for me! Well, to tell ya the truth, I’m actually starting to like Wednesdays! I’m such a Friday girl, but maybe there is room in my heart for another favorite day.

Wednesdays are particularly cool because my NEW HEALTH POST IS PUBLISHED ONLINE! I love seeing my hard work on display! Check out my newest post on Health: Don’t Have Time for Breakfast? 3 Healthy Options in 15 Minutes or Less Feel free to chime in about your favorite go-to breakfasts on the post. I’d love to hear about your favorites, especially since I need to expand my breakfast repertoire!

Breakfast

Good breakfast this morning! :-D

In the mix:

  • 1/3 cup dry oats
  • 2/3 cup vanilla hemp milk
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
  • 1 banana
  • 1 packet of CNC Trail Mix

The CNC Trail Mix is a customized from those YouBar/YouShake guys– they’re onto trail mix now! I’ve had these handy-dandy packets for about a month now, but you haven’t seen them on the blog because I am saving them for my summer travel. The trail mixes will make an awesome snack as well as a nice compliment to some instant oatmeal while traveling across the country. The packaging is also fairly sturdy, so wouldn’t hesitate to toss them in my bag for the long haul.

Inside my mix: Organic Flaxseeds, Organic Cashews, Almonds, Dark Chocolate Covered Raisins, Prunes, Organic Black Mission Figs, and Cherries.

With iced coffee…

Great breakfast article! I’ll have to try a misto. I am of equal fitness of my friends who I run cross country with, but have far better fitness than any of my other friends.

I can’t wait to read today’s article! I’ll be sure to comment on it when I do (which oughta be right after leaving this comment, haha). As for fitness… maybe. I’m not too sure. But I definitely eat healthier than all of them put together–that’s for CERTAIN. ;)

I hope your Wednesday goes splendidly!

Great article Tina. Your iced coffee always looks so refreshing.

OK, I swear I thought today was Thursday. Ahh the life of a stay at home mom.

Yes, I am more fit than most of my friends, but I hope to inspire and motivate them (and make them live in fear that I might kick their ass!)

Wednesdays are great! Because tomorrow’s Thursday!

I checked out your health post, so *professional* looking! Really, very nice article and congratulations on that gig.

congrats to the winner and great breakfast article.

I’m not sure about the more fit question – yes to some, but no to others, I guess.

aren’t flaxseeds supposed to be ground before eating? I didn’t think you get any of their benefits eating them whole.

I like Wednesdays, but maybe because for now they are one of my days off.

i was going to mention the same thing that #7 brandi mentioned. i thought flax seeds need to be ground to have any benefits.

at any rate, Happy Weds!

I’m not necessarily MORE fit, but I do make the gym a regular habit and only 2 other of my gf’s do so. The rest of them don’t do anything :) to each their own!

I personally prefer to have TIGHT quads/legs and laugh quietly when I see the jiggles on other women MY AGE. Seriously, all you gotta do is lift some weights people!

Courtney (The Hungry Yogini) May 20, 2009 at 9:12 am

Oohh how cool! What a neat individual trail mix. Just reading some comments and it is true about the flaxseed. They do need to be ground because your body can’t break down the shell of it.

Hmm…am I more fit than my friends? I don’t know!! A lot of my friends are fellow yogis so we are probably about equal =)

Have a great day!

That bowl of oatmeal looks great – I especially love the new topping…. and they’re making trail mix now? Life is good!

Interesting question today, and it’s all based on one’s definition of “fit.” I think that I may exercise more often and regularly than most of my friends. The funny part is – some of them appear to be in better shape physically. I don’t know what gives.

Although my friends from high school were all runners and still are hardcore runners – so they put me to shame when I’m around them!

Your oatmeal bowl is picture perfect! And looking delicious :)

Interesting that that trail mix includes flax seeds.. never seen that in a trail mix before. You would think it would be a little difficult/messy to eat though… I’d be dropping those little things everywhere!

Tina,

I was wondering whether the coffee company gave you a discount code of any type as my fiance and I would like to order some from their website. Thanks!

I also used to skip breakfast, or eat a very small one, but when I needed to lose some weight my nutritionist set me straight. Now I have a BIG breakfast every morning and I love it!
I have 3 go to breakfasts. 90% of the time i have 2/3 cup (or so) of greek yogurt with fruit, a little honey, and some light granola or cereal.
On the weekends I usually have oatmeal made with skim milk, with blueberries and peanut butter mixed in.
And I occasionally mix things up with a beefed up green monster: 1/2 banana, 2/3 cup almond milk, a couple big handfuls of spinach, a handful of cranberries, a scoop of spirulina and a scoop of chocolate protein powder.
I would say that I am in better shape than many of my friends, but a few are in better shape than I am. All of my friends are in pretty good shape though.

Congrats on the news about your hip! I’m sure that you’ll do great at the race.

I think that I’m about as fit as my friends. Some of us are in better shape or eat healthier than others, but the majority of us are at a healthy weight. I just wish I had another friend that liked to run! I need a running buddy!

My fast breakfast go-to is a smoothie. All you have to do is throw everything into a blender and blend! Then you are done :)

Unfortunately, yes I am more fit than my friends. I honestly don’t know anyone personally that loves to exercise or eat healthy! Besides my boyfriend :) We keep each other going! I hope to bring this topic more attention in my community one day..I live in a town that survives off of Ho-Ho’s and fried chicken

Great article! I am more fit than my friends from college but the friends that I hang out with now are all very into fitness! Most of the girls are bloggers so of course we all like to work out togetehr!

I am defintely more fit than my friends! The funny thing is, they give ME a hard time about it! I love fruit and yogurt for breakfast, and I often will prep my fruit the night before so I can just dump my yogurt in the container and hit the door.

Hi Tina! I will definitely check out your article!! Very exciting!! :-)

Great looking breakfast!

I am definitely more fit than my friends. :-) I need to be stronger but my cardio system is stellar. My friends/family always compliment me for being in great shape and say they are inspired. I like that. I would have no problems with them getting stronger than me as a result.

Have a great day!!

Yes I am more fit than my friends. I get judged a lot by what I eat and if I’d rather work out than go out for pizza. It’s tough but I know I’ll be at my best if I stick to it.

annie May 20, 2009 at 10:19 am

wow flaxseed trail mix? that sounds awesome! my friends are a lot more fit than I am but they don’t eat as healthy. They’re one of those people who eat 3 fast food meals a day but run alot.

I think most of my hometown and work friends think I’m crazy for running marathons, but my former college teamates seem to understand :-) Thank goodness it’s Wednesday – can’t wait until Friday!

Your article is great, those are pretty much my exact go-to breakfasts! If I’m really in a hurry I like grabbing a couple pieces of fruit and a handful of raw nuts. Or if I have more time I can cut up a few types of fruit and make a big beautiful salad. It’s the perfect light start to my day.

That trail mix is such a good idea! I’m going to have to look into that.

I’m more fit than my friends for sure! They all love their fast food and giant nacho plates at Chili’s and Applebees, and I love going over to their houses to watch reality TV marathons when I feel like resting after a bike ride or something. I’m the “tiny one” of the group, lol.

I think that I am more consistent with my workouts and healthy eating than my friends. I did get two of my friends into yoga and two other friends to run a race with me, but I would say that I do a more comprehensive job :)

Nice article! Oatmeal is my go-to breakfast too. Mornings just don’t seem right without it.

I’d say I am more fit than my friends/family (with the exception of my sister, who is a personal trainer). I’ve always been the only one of my friends who is health conscious and exercises. In fact, a lot of them are very unhealthy. Maybe some of my habits will rub off on them someday.

Congrats on your article!! Very cool!

I definitely feel like I’m more health conscious than most of my friends. Some of my friends exercise regularly, but eat a very poor diet and some of my friends don’t exercise regularly and eat a very clean and healthy diet. I’d say that I’m better at balancing the two than most of my friends.

christine May 20, 2009 at 11:03 am

My two best friends are way more fit then I am and they have been great with helping me get back into shape. While in contrast the rest of my friends have impressed me with their ability to avoid heart attacks at age 22.

I love Mistos and need to remember to get them more often! Starbucks is also selling Grande Iced Coffees with milk for $1.95 now through June 29. Nice idea for warmer weather and quite a bit cheaper than my usual soy latte!

A lot of my friends are skinny, but not FIT. You know what I mean? I’m am working on the fit part, but I am definitely more health conscious than anyone else I know.

I don’t know if I’m particularly more fit than my friends. I do exercise a lot and try and eat healthy but a classmate/friend of mine is super slim and lean and she doesn’t exerxie or eat healthy…..sigh. Such is life.

Hey there!

I’m pretty sure I’m more fit than most of my friends, as most of them are pretty heavy drinkers/smokers/partiers. I’m trying to surround myself with people that are a little more on the same page as me health-wise though, ya know?

I’m off to read your newest article now! Have a great day :)

Yummy Breakfast. Your trail mix also looks fantastic!!!

I am definitely more fit than my friends. My friends hardly participate in any physical activities, and they are completely not health conscious.
However, two of my best friends (my 2 sisters) are very fit and health conscious! I think that one of the reasons we are all very close is because we are focused on health & fitness! :)

The young crowd here in Portland, OR falls into two groups – sedentary drinkers and smokers, and ridiculously active triatheletes who don’t own cars, bike everywhere, and are vegan. Almost all of my friends fall into the former group, so I am BY FAR the fittest person in my circle :) I tried to rally my friends to do a fun-run 5k at the end of the month and all I got in response was, “Bitch, please.”
I’m glad you can run your half!
