Hi, friends!

Here’s a what-I-ate/day-in-the-life recap for all of you! You guys said you enjoyed reading these types of posts on CNC, so I’m keeping them alive!

Breakfast

Yesterday’s breakfast was two slices of toast with Teddie Peanut Butter and banana slices on top. On the side, I had a container of Greek-style almond milk yogurt, which, like the coconut milk one, was no bueno. The texture just isn’t my jam. Once again, I didn’t want to waste it, so IĀ ended up using the yogurt in a smoothie last night.

I used up the last of the peanut butter, so I gave Murphy the jar to lick. Teddie is his favorite!

Snack

After breakfast, I got ready for the day and then headed out to run some errands, which included a stop at Whole Foods for a (decaf) iced latte. I am obsessed with their almond milk lattes. The espresso they use is sooooo smooth and sooooo flavorful. Love, love, love!

I was also kind of hungry after my failed breakfast, so I bought a bag of Hail Merry macaroons to snack on. One of my CrossFit friends raves about these, so I wanted to see what they were all about and, whoa, they are delicious, especially if you love coconut. The flavor I bought (blonde) actually reminds me a lot of Nikki’s Vanilla Cake Batter Coconut Butter, so I wonder if I could make my own vegan macaroons at home? Hmmm…

After running my errands, I drove up to my friend Jen’s house to spend some time with her and meet her new baby, Tommy. (I swear, all of my closest friends just had babies or are pregnant now. Something is in the waterā€Ā¦) Hanging out with Jen, meeting Tommy, and talking all things baby made me want Baby H. to get here even sooner! I just want to meet the little (kicking) lunatic already!

Snack

On the drive home from Jen’s house, I snacked on a banana and then finished off the bag of Hail Merry macaroons I bought that morning. It was well past lunchtime, so I was starving!

When I got home, a fun package was waiting for me: an adorable pug onesie from Kath and Mazen! Murphy thought it was especially awesome!

Snack

I was still pretty hungry when I got home and a CrossFit workout was on the agenda, so I spread some Light Creamy Swiss from The Laughing Cow on a rice cake to snack on.

Workout

Yesterday’s WOD was three Tabatas: Shoulder-to-Overhead, Deadlifts, and Double Unders. I scaled down my weight to 55 pounds for the S2OH, 95 pounds for the Deadlifts, and I did my best with Double Unders. There was a lot of leg/arm whipping yesterday! Haha!

Dinner

After CrossFit, Mal and I tagged-teamed dinner. I started cooking while he showered and then he finished up the meal while I showered, so dinner was done in no time. We had Italian chicken sausage with sautéed kale and mac & cheese. Delish!

Snack

A couple of hours later, I wanted something else to eat, so I whipped up a smoothie with the Greek-style almond milk yogurt from my breakfast, frozen peaches, almond milk, and spinach.

I spent the rest of the night watching TV with Mal and Murphy, who is SO persistent about laying on my belly. It takes him forever to get comfortable and he grunts like he is super annoyed with the situation, but he eventually settles down. Pug persistence at its finest!

Snack

I ended up waking up in the middle of the night with a grumbling/queasy stomach, so I made a piece of toast and added peanut butter and jelly on top. Having a little something in my stomach at all times definitely helps with the morning sickness/unsettled stomach.

Question of the Day

I ate a lot of snacks yesterday instead of straight up meals. I am usually more of a meal person with a couple of snacks mixed in, but constant snacking seems to work for me while I am dealing with morning sickness stuff.

Are you more of a 3-meals-per-day person or snacker or a combo of both?

P.S. Here’s the link to my TV segment that aired yesterday morning on NECN: Healthy drinks for the health-conscious dieter! It makes it sound like I only drink juice for breakfast, but we all know that’s not that case!

      1. @Tina: (I am allergic to dairy so I haven’t had *real* yogurt in years but…) I love that almond milk greek style yogurt! That said, I usually mix up some vanilla almond milk into to make it a little more creamy plus some fruit & granola. Not trying to tell you that you should like it, just a suggestion. šŸ™‚ Love your blog and tips, Tina!

  1. I had an almond milk yogurt for the first time today too! I’m not too sure how I feel about them……It was a weird texture and taste. I had the vanilla. I got two other ones to try though, so before I write them off, I will.

    I am a small meal/snacker. I don’t think I ever eat really large meals.

  2. Oh I’m obsessed with WF’s almond milk latte’s!! So smooth and deliciuos!:)

I’d say I’m a 3 meals + snacks kind of person… Although, now that I’m pregnant, I’m hungry 24/7 and eating all day long.

  3. Can you suggest a gluten free bread brand for me? I’m afraid to buy one that I don’t like, and I’d hate to waste food! Thanks šŸ™‚

  4. I love the “What I ate” posts…it gives me more ideas for meals or snacks. Your smoothie looks great, I can’t wait to go home and make it!!

I usually tend to stick with 3 meals and 2 snacks a day…one snack is always a greek yogurt with some granola.

  5. I pretty consistence with 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. The afternoon snack is usually healthy, fruit, nuts, granola bar. The nighttime snack while watching TV is more of a treat ice cream, cookies, candy.

  6. Trader Joe’s has great macaroons in their freezer department – a variety pack with acpricot, lemon, pistachio, coconut, fig and caramel. So good!

  7. When I’m really listening to my body, I’m more of a snacker since it doesn’t take much to satisfy my hunger. That’s when I’m listening though. Otherwise I turn into a three meals a day kind of girl.

  8. It doesn’t look like you ate any lunch! Do you usually eat lunch or just graze throughout the day?

  9. I am definitely more of a meal person, but I had the same problem yesterday! Every time i went to eat – it was an “off” time, so I just had a snack!

  10. I am a mixture of both. I have three square meals most of the time with a few light snacks in between. If I’m going to “skip” a major meal it’s generally lunch so those days there are more snacks!

  11. That picture with Murphy on your stomach is so cute!

I’m a 3-meals and usually 2-3 snacks a day kind of person. Having a mid-morning snack really breaks up my morning and helps keep me going until lunch…usually when I’m snacking I hop on and read your blog posting for the day. I love your eats/day in the life posts šŸ˜€

  12. I usually eat 3 meals and 2 snacks. It helps with my gestational diabetes and being on bed rest it helps to have set meals/snacks rather than snacking all day long out of boredom. Prior to bed rest, I would have those days when it was more of a snacky day if I was running around though. I haven’t tried those macaroons but want to because I love Nikki’s Vanilla Cake Batter. Had some of that today actually!

  13. hmm I’ve been curious to try that brand of yogurt but I am picky about texture so I think I’m going to pass on it! Kudos that you were able to use it in a smoothie and still make use of it!

  14. I actually felt guilty for a little while that I’m a 3-meals- a-day kind of person, if that makes sense, because a lot of healthy living resources emphasize eating smaller meals more often. Eventually, I decided to just stick with what works for me and not feel bad about it. šŸ™‚

  15. When I eat three good sized Paleo meals a day I find I don’t get hungry between meals. However, I’m now on the road travelling for the next year, so have to go with what’s practical… and cheap! I’ve been experimenting with just having breakfast and dinner with snacks in between and it works okay.

  16. That’s so cute you guys can share duties in the kitchen.

I eat three full meals with two snacks in between, so that gives me five chances to eat during the day. I’m a creature of habit, so I repeat many snacks and meals throughout the week.

I enjoy seeing these posts. Maybe you could add the exact time you eat each item? Seems silly, but I love to know the eating schedules of others as well. For me, I know I eat dinner way too late, but sometimes that is unavoidable when I teach evening group fitness classes.

    Happy Thursday! šŸ™‚

  17. I am a meal girl, with snacks mixed in. I have a long day teaching dance, and that hypes up my metabolism to be moving all day, so I have to nosh on things throughout the day. You’ve SAVED me from snack boredom with Laughing Cow though, I absolutely love it and had never tried it until I saw your post with it on toast and hard boiled eggs. Mystery of the afternoon snacking SOLVED;) Thanks!

  18. Do you happen to know where she got that adorable onsie from? I would love to buy it for a friend! And those Hail Merry macaroons are my fave- esp the chocolate chip cookie dough and the brownie flavors!

  19. I love that onesie!! On that note, why does spellcheck never recognize “onesie” that confuses me all the time šŸ™‚ I’m a total grazer. I do sit down to eat the normal three meals but I make sure they don’t make me uncomfortably full. So then I snack every few hours.

  20. I just finished up my first trimester and I learned alot about how to control my nausea. At first I was eating three large meals a day but I would have a queasy stomach all day long. So I also found that having small snacks/meals throughout the day helps me control it.

  21. Typically I am a meal-eater, but occasionally I get headaches which makes me one snacky girl! I didn’t even know that Whole Foods had lattes/coffee…is that just your Whole Foods or is it all Whole Foods!! Looks tasty!

  22. I am definitely a three meal plus two (sometimes three!) snacks a day kind of eater! I try and drink a lot of water to help curb my cravings on the days I am not exercising, though. I have tried both the coconut and almond milk yogurts and I agree that they are no bueno. I wish I liked them because I love both almond and coconut milk. Maybe I’d like them in a smoothie, though. Happy Friday!

  23. I’m more of a meals plus snacks eater. If I just snack, I won’t get as full & I’ll end up eating even more. But I get hungry in between meals, so I also need to snack or I’ll gorge myself once mealtime comes around lol.
I have a question. Since you work out so much, do you try to eat more protein to compensate for muscle growth? Or do you mainly just try to stick to a healthy diet? Thanks!

    1. I definitely include protein in all of my meals and snacks, but I don’t typically try to get extra (unless I do a really long and hard workout).

  24. Haha whenever I deviate from my 3 meals + 2 snacks habit things get a little crazy. I can practically clock my hunger pangs. On the days I work at the hospital, it drives me nuts that I have to break lunch into 2 parts, but if I didn’t’ do that, there’s no way I’d make it through the afternoon!

  25. That is too funny how Murphy seems all peeved that Baby H. is in the way of him snuggling. I just tried a Hail Merry almond butter tart a few weeks ago and it was divine!
I try to eat only four times a day, all about 3-4 hours apart: breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner (with a little treat). If I have a particuarly hard workout, I definitely eat after to refuel and hold me over until my next meal/snack otherwise I’ll get crazy “rungry.”
I can imagine that keeping some food in your stomach at all times really helps keep the nauseau away. Gotta do what works!

  26. I am definitely more of a 3-meals-a-day person, but sometimes on weekends I snack more than have real meals. BTW I am super impressed that you remembered to take a pic of your midnight snack! I probably would have been in zombie-mode and wouldn’t have even thought of my camera.
