The Odd Meal

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

I wasn’t in the mood for a “traditional” dinner tonight, but I had some strong food cravings– specifically for peanut butter and wine. (I know, I’m weird.)

When Mal and I hosted a wine tasting last month, we fell in love with a wonderful bottle of Torrontes. We purchased a couple of bottles, so tonight was the night to enjoy one!

I paired my white wine with a toasted Arnold Sandwich Thin with chunky peanut butter and raisins on top.

What can I say? I’m classy!

Even though dinner wasn’t the most nutritionally balanced meal I have ever eaten, I still covered the basics: fiberific carbs, healthy fats, protein, and a little something for my mental health. 😉 Sounds like a wholesome meal to me!

What “odd” meals have you recently eaten?

  1. I’m in the middle of a rather odd, spaced-out lunch! First I had a big plate of raw veggies dipped in ketchup and homemade honey-mustard (honey dijon + plain yogurt), then I had a bowl of oat bran with some vanilla and cinnamon, and now I’m onto a green monster smoothie, complete with spinach, almond milk, protein powder, banana, and pb!
A little untraditional, but I’m loving it!

  2. I have totally rocked a glass of wine with something more breakfasty – like pancakes. I know I have eaten some very weird combos, but for some reason my brain is unable to grasp the memory of one right now…anyways, looks delish! Is that white dry or sweet?

  3. I pair odd “meal” combinations all the time, but I’m with you in at least trying to get in my whole grains, protein, and unsaturated fats. Mine often look something like: a banana with pb, some dry wasa light rye crisps, and a low sodium V8 (my go-to method of getting in my veggies when my fridge/freezer is bare!). I’m trying to get out of that habit though!

  4. Dinner looks good to me! 🙂

With finals this week, I am enjoying baby goldfishes for lunch, snack and even dinner:( Next week shall better…

  5. okay so i totally just ate almond butter and banana on a whole wheat bagel, a salad and white winÄ™! Too funny

  6. Funny u should ask!
Today I was actually planning on having a turkey sandwich for lunch and had already assembled my arnold’s sandwich thin with some spinach and tomato slices then i look in the fridge and discover i don’t have any turkey so instead i sliced up a very ripe banana and layered it on top of my spinach and tomato . . . the sweet and savory made combo a surprisingly delicious sandwich . . . i think i’ll have it again this week!

  7. Tonight I was majorly craving nachos! Not a typical week-night dinner for me, but it was goood. Multi grain Tostitos, shredded cheese, pinto beans, and salsa. + a blondie 🙂

  8. I ate french toast for dinner recently, but that’s not exciting. I am totally in favor of eating what you crave, but I’ve been so stressed out I don’t think I can trust my body right now.

  9. I definitely eat my share of odd meals. Often, I will have what you would normally eat for dinner for breakfast – for instance, this morning, I had a turkeyburger! And I fairly eat typical breakfast food (an omelet) for dinner.

  10. i love odd meals 🙂 At least you went for what you wanted!

I had a burger on top of a sweet potato for lunch. with ketchup. and it was great!

and dinner included meat/salsa tacos. that’s all. they were good, too.

    enjoy your night!

  11. There’s no better meal than the ones where you truly follow your craving and yet it turns out to be somewhat balanced! Glad you enjoyed your special dinner! 🙂

Btw, I just wanted to share this link with everyone. I know you’ve been raving about Healthworks and the classes there, so I thought I’d share this deal with you guys:

It’s 24 classes (+ full access to the gym!) for only $18! Such an awesome deal!!! I am going to my first class tomorrow morning. So excited!!! 🙂

    Have a great night everyone!

  12. Great random meal- we love Argentinian wine! I just discovered the Arnold Sandwich Thins and love them, I am not normally a big sandwich person but those are amazing. As for random meals, in the summer we often eat cheese, veggies, olives and open a bottle of wine for dinner. I love nibbling!

  13. I have REALLY been in to snacking and combining random foods lately. I just want tastes of everything, ya know? I think it’s fabulous you ate exactly what you wanted. You can’t resist what you want. Our bodies really are trying to tell us something!

  14. I love it! We should all have PB & wine for dinner every once in a while, especially if that’s what you are craving 🙂 I haven’t had any unusual ones lately but I’ll let you know if I do!

  15. Last night, my dinner consisted of raw broccoli with hummus, followed by a vegan chocolate chip cookie…

Yes, not very balanced at all, but you can afford to have less-than-stellar meals sometimes when you’re a healthy person!

It’s weird, but I find that after spinning class (which I take at 6 am), my appetite is very odd for the rest of the day–I crave random things, and eater fewer calories than normal. No idea why. My appetite is far more predictable on the days that I run.
