Thanks to those of you who weighed-in on my donut debate this morning. I enjoyed reading everyone’s different perspectives, and I love that you guys share your opinions with me and other readers. You guys hear me blab on and on day after day, so it’s nice to hear your “voices”– even if it’s just about donuts!

So, taking into consideration all of your comments, I decided to forgo the free donut, but I made a much worse decision in the end, nutritionally speaking, of course. 😉

At Starbucks, I ordered a Rainbow Cookie and an iced coffee with soy milk. At Dunkin’ Donuts, I would have likely ordered my favorite Chocolate Glazed Cake Donut, so here’s a little comparison of the two.

Side-by-Side Comparison:

  • D&D Chocolate Cake Donut
    Calories: 280; Sat. Fat: 7g; Trans Fat: 0g; Sugar: 16g; Fiber: 1g; Protein: 3
  • Starbucks Rainbow Cookie
    Calories: 480, Sat. Fat: 13g, Trans Fat: 1g; Sugar: 41g; Fiber: 1g; Protein: 6

Well, as you can see, I definitely splurged today! I indulged a little more than I had wanted to, but live and learn, right?

I knew that the Starbucks cookie probably had more calories and fat, but I didn’t think THAT many more. And trans fat!? Eek! That was a surprise! 👿 Initially, I had thought the cookie would have been a “healthier” option because of it’s less “yucky” ingredients, but I was wrong about that too. 😐

So, I guess the moral of the story is: Make informed decisions when you splurge, ENJOY every bite of it, and don’t stress if you go a little overboard.

I had planned to indulge today, so I brought a light lunch: Stonyfield yogurt + fresh blueberries + sliced almonds.

Question of the Day

How often to you allow yourself to indulge in yummy food?

I’m off to a bachelorette party weekend in Maine after work today, so I’m not sure if I will have internet access or not. If I do, I will see ya soon. If not, have a wonderful weekend, blog friends!!!
