Hi, guys!

I hope you had a very nice July 4th holiday! We didn’t have any big plans to celebrate, but things shaped up with quite a few last-minute get-togethers and plenty of good times! 🙂

I love a good High Low High blog post, so here’s a recap of our long holiday weekend, which shares both the “highs” and “lows” from it. I always like to focus on the positive side of things, but I like to keep things real too, so there’s a nice mix of both. With that, here we go!

high low high july 4th

HIGH: Celebrating the 4th with our hometown friends, which involved lots games, kids, drinks, and food, including the most amazing red, white, and blue Funfetti cake. The red and blue sections were colored with fresh fruit – such a great idea, right?

HIGH: Qman’s first ice cream truck experience! One came through our neighborhood over the weekend, and we just had to check it out. Quinn picked a Batman ice cream!

HIGH: Making the most amazing Carrot Chicken Ramen Noodles for lunch and then again for dinner the next night. Recipe coming to CNC soon!

LOW: Getting locked out of Mal’s car after CrossFit. Oops! Thankfully, our friends rescued us by driving Mal home to get a spare set of keys.

HIGH: Enjoying iced coffee and donuts at Coffee Shack after the whole car fiasco.

HIGH: Having friends over our house for a barbecue and spicy Moscow Mules made with white tequila, jalapeno, soda water, and diet ginger beer. <– I didn’t even know Gosling’s made a diet version! It was really good and much better than the original, which leaves your teeth all slimy from the sugar.

HIGH: Finishing “Black Hawk Down” 6 minutes faster than my previous time back in 2013! This time, I carried a 15-pound plate for the first and final miles.

LOW: Driving to Lucky Finn Cafe for post-workout iced coffees + breakfast, but it being so crazy-busy both inside and out that we decided to avoid the madness and go somewhere else.

HIGH: Trying a new coffee shop in Norwell called Pour. They had tasty iced coffee (I ordered a Snickerdoodle) and breakfast sandwiches, so we were happy!

LOW: Feeling totally exhausted after Black Hawk Down and wanting to just nap on the couch.

HIGH: Powering through and getting a head start on some work for the week!

Question of the Day

Your turn! Share a high and low from your 4th of July!

  1. High: Watching the community fireworksvsitting in our back yard (they were at the golf course which is less than a block away).

Low: Calming our poor anxious doggy down after the fireworks.

  2. Low: Not making it to our gym for the 4th WOD (“1775”). We ended up doing a modified version at home.

High: Met up with a friend from school I haven’t seen in 5 years! It was so great to catch up.

  3. Discovering the magic of the Capital One Cafe! I had work to do and the libraries were closed and then I remembered the weird Peet’s Coffee/Bank and now it’s my favorite place to work.

  4. HIGH : making it through all 3 rounds of “Small” When I really thought I could only do 2 as a scaled option.

LOW: Eating pretty much zero vegetables all day

  5. High: tons of time outside in the sun, a fun tapas dinner with friends, watching fireworks from our new deck, and breaking into some wedding cake and champagne a couple days early (my husband and I are celebrating our first wedding anniversary on Sunday, but we’re leaving for a trip so we dug into our wedding cake early!)

Low: my husband had a migraine on and off all weekend which dampered the fun a bit; going back to work today 🙁

  6. High: spending the fourth up north with my family.
Low: Mitch skipping his nap. Oh well, when you’re having fun, who wants to sleep!

  7. Yesterday’s high was watching the fireworks from my bedroom. They’re seriously so close, that I don’t have to go anywhere. NO CROWDS!

Low was well, not going to bed earlier enough and getting enough sleep.

  8. Happy 4th of July to your family!
You are going to have to share the recipe for that CAKE! Oh my goodness it looks amazing!

    High: Time with family! 🙂
Low: Getting wrecked tubing on the lake…I am not as young as I used to be! 🙁

  9. I always love how iced coffee + donuts almost always make an appearance your weekends. I need to implement this ASAP. Well, the donut part. Iced coffee makes an appearance in my life daily. 🙂 A low from my weekend was the rain keeping us from the pool for a bit on the 4th, but a high was seeing so many friends and FINALLY meeting our neighbors who are a younger couple just like us! 🙂

  10. For the 4th, we took our annual trip to Lenox for James Taylor at Tanglewood. So good! Then we headed to Boston for the rest of the week. Seeing how much you recommend Lucky Finn and the need for a more low key day, we went for breakfast/more like lunch on Friday. It was awesome!! The food was great and they were so accommodating to our kids. What a find! If there was a low, it was pouring so we really couldn’t walk around the town.
