High Low High 16

Hey, friends! A very happy Sunday to you!

First things first: If you haven’t had a chance to fill out the 2017 CNC Reader Survey, please do! Tomorrow (Monday) is the final day that it’ll be open and then we’ll tally up the results later this week. Many, many, MANY thanks to those of you who have already participated. It means a lot to me!

Ok, now onto a little recap from our weekend a la High Low High where I share both the high and low points from it. I always like to end on a high note, so there’s typically more highs than lows! Here we go…

HIGH: Date night with Mal at Solstice. Hooray! We finally made it! We’ve talked about visiting Solstice for months now. We even drove down to Kingston two different times with the intention of going, but then things didn’t work out. I’m so happy that we finally had a chance to dine there because it was totally worth the wait. The atmosphere was great. We sat at the bar and enjoyed our experience with the service, bartender, etc., and the food was excellent. I ordered a chicken dish, which was awesome, but what I can’t stop talking (and thinking) about is the burger that Mal ordered. Holy cow, I had some serious food envy… so glad he shared a couple of bites with me! But, hey, now I know what I’m ordering the next time we go to Solstice. It was incredible. The burger was served on a little tray with truffle fries, homemade ketchup, mustard, pickles, and with this bacon-cheese-jam-amazingness. OMG, it’s a burger I will never forget.

HIGH: The Salt Shack CrossFit holiday party at PiNZ. I had so much fun!

LOW: Maybe I had a little too much fun because I woke up feeling like garbage the next day. Tito’s + soda at the end of the night was not such a great idea. Oy.

HIGH: Sweating out the booze at CrossFit the next day. My gosh, the start of this workout was brutal, but I felt a zillion times better once it was over.

LOW: Missing Day 9 of 24 Days of Togetherness. We had a busy Friday and it just slipped our minds.

HIGH: Completing Day 9 (make a Christmas drawing) and Day 10 (make a gingerbread house) yesterday.

The gingerbread house was a huge hit with Qman. We bought a kit from Trader Joe’s and it turned out so well. Qman keeps calling it his “tiny house.”

HIGH: Enjoying a business lunch with Kerrie to discuss all things Designed to Fit Nutrition. We have lots of great things planned for 2017, including our brand new web-based software, which is going to be AMAZING. We also officially hired a Registered Dietitian, so now we’re a team of three. My gosh, we are so excited for the new year!! FYI: We’re taking new clients to start on January 16, 2017.

LOW: Canceling our Boston holiday adventure with friends. We planned to see Blink! in the city, but it was really chilly last night, so we figured it wasn’t the best idea to bring our little ones out in the cold. Hopefully, we’ll have a chance to reschedule before the holiday season is over.

HIGH: Having a low-key evening at home. We watched The Secret Life of Pets and everyone, including Murphy, enjoyed it. It was super cute. The pug was on-point!

My evening also included a couple of “mocktails” made with Cranberry Cider, a splash of apple cider, and some apple slices. It was just what a needed after Friday night! #old

HIGH: Finishing the majority of my holiday shopping this morning. Well, I still need to get something for my father-in-law, but I’m pretty sure we’re going to make a Chatbook for him. I think he would really love it! Anyway, here’s what I ordered, just in case you’re still looking for ideas. Heyyyy, online shopping for the win!

HIGH: Celebrating my niece’s first birthday later this afternoon. I can’t believe she’s already one!

Question of the Day

Your turn! Share a high and low from your weekend!

P.S. Pug people: This “Winter Wonderland” video is amazing. I mean, we all know how much pugs love Christmas!! Smile

  1. I haven’t gotten any Christmas shopping done. I guess that’s my low! BUT I didn’t rock out about a work this weekend so I can kind of relax the next two weeks. You don’t get to do that much “relaxing” when you run your own business, but I’m trying to take some much needed down time!

  2. A high was treating myself to a manicure in the cutest color followed by a lavender latte! Low was, nothing! We’re snowed in and watching all of the holiday movies. Perfection!

  3. My daughter (8yo) and I did the same gingerbread house last weekend. Fun and easy, even for someone without a crafting bone in her body. High was a 7 mile run this morning and a cookie exchange with my mom and sisters yesterday. Low is that the weekend is almost over. BOO!!

  4. Looks like you started off your weekend in my neck of the woods – I still have yet to make it over to Solstice or Pinz. Heard great things about both places, though. My high low high was getting in a run yesterday afternoon, having to go grocery shopping today, and getting many presents wrapped this weekend 🙂

  5. I saw that gingerbread kit and TJ’s but haven’t bought it yet! Thats such a cute and fun activity to do with little ones and adults too haha. A high would be knowing that I’m going home for Christmas break this week and a low would be studying for finals 🙁

  6. Do you have any idea why your site “jumps” when I’m reading? What I mean is that I’ll be reading paragraph X and it will skip to paragraph Y. Hope my explanation makes sense. It only happens on CnC and I’ve done all updates, cleared my history, done all bug fixes, etc… Thanks!

Weekend high…making puppy chow, peppermint bark, and decorating homemade sugar cookies with my daughter and husband while watching snow fall all day outside with a pot of chicken soup bubbling away on the stove THEN having school cancelled for our first snow day! Talk about icing on the cake! Low…sorry TMI…Aunt Flo showing up this morning to kill the buzz.

  7. My friend and I once ordered burgers from a local café in Pittsburgh and couldn’t stop raving about how good they were. At the end of our meal, our server told us that the burger we ordered unbeknownst to us was the cafe’s replica of a Big Mac (minus the multiple layers). The look on our faces was I’m sure priceless as we instantly realized how many calories and fat we probably consumed. Needless to say the burger was still delicious and an enjoyable splurge, haha!

  8. I can’t wait till my little guy can do fun Christmas activities like making gingerbread houses! I’ve only had a few nights out since having my son but the next day is so rough. I don’t know how I used to go out in college and then workout and go to 8 am class in the morning and feel totally fine haha!

  9. high getting a bunch of work done on my new ebook this weekend
high going to a Christmas party
high going to a 5K race the morning after a Christmas party
low going to a 5K race the morning after a Christmas party
high baileys in my coffee after the race
high passing out from exhaustion all afternoon on Sunday
low not being able to sleep last night!

overall it was a winning weekend!

  10. God remember the days when drinking fri AND sat was no problem! not so healthy but I still marvel at what my body could do in my twenties 😉

  11. I made your sweet potato/turkey/spinach hash this weekend for quick lunches and dinners this week, and my gosh was it good! I decided to mix things up and use a packet of ranch dressing mix as the spice mixture, and it turned out so yummy! This is definitely going to be a weekly dish for quick meals!

  12. Now I want a burger!
High: Finishing Christmas shopping…I think. We just buy for the kids in the family (and do an Adult Secret Santa) but I feel compelled to buy a few other adults gifts as well, but what? Oh the struggle!

  13. High: We also watched The Secret life of pets and we enjoyed it, so did our cats! Low: That freezing weather so early in December (I am in Quebec).
