I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

I had a few hours to kill on my flight to Portland, so I decided to finish up this Fabulous Fitness Survey that I started the other day. I saw it on Julie‘s blog and thought it looked fun, and you know how I love surveys, so here goes!

1. What did you eat for breakfast?

Butternut squash with cinnamon, sliced banana, and almond butter. Please see my previous post for a photo!

2. How much water do you drink a day?

I’m not sure, but a lot. Besides coconut water on occasion (I’ve been loving it after hot, summer workouts), I only drink water. I always have a water bottle with me and make a conscious effort to drink it with meals and throughout the day.

3. What is your current favorite workout?

You might have heard me mention CrossFit once or twice on this blog, right? I love it a whole lot.

4. How many calories do you eat a day?

I have no clue, but I probably eat 1,000 calories worth of almond butter each day.

5. What are your favorite healthy snacks?

I {heart} snacks in a major way. Here are a few posts that feature my favorite snacks:

6. What do you usually eat for lunch?

Now that I’m not snapping photos of everything I eat, I find myself repeating a lot of the same meals over and over again. Lately, for lunch, I’ve been eating a banana with almond butter and a smoothie or ground turkey or chicken mixed with avocado, butternut squash, spinach, or some other veggie.


7. What is your favorite body part to strength train?

Lately, I’ve really enjoyed the gymnastics part of CrossFit (i.e. pull-ups, handstand push-ups, toes-to-bar).

8. What is your least favorite body part to strength train?

Core. Hollow rocks are the bane of my existence.

9. What are your “bad” food cravings?

I’m not a fan of categorizing foods as “good” or “bad,” but I assume this question is asking about cravings for my favorite foods. My answer, forever and always, is cake, including cupcakes and cake pops.

10. Do you take vitamins or supplements?

Yep. A daily multivitamin, fish oil, and VSL#3 (probiotic).

11. How often do you eat out?

It depends. Usually, once or twice a week, more when I travel.

12. Do you eat fast food?

If you count places like Panera, Chipotle, and Subway, then, yes, I do!

13. Who is your biggest supporter?

Mal x 1,000,000. He even supports me when he disagrees with me. I don’t think I could have ever asked for a more supportive partner.


14. Do you have a gym membership?

Gym? No. Crossfit box. Yes!

15. How many hours of sleep do you get a night?

Usually 7-8 hours.

16. Do you have a “cheat”day?

Everyday is a “cheat” day for me. I enjoy some sort of sweet treat every single day.

17. Do you drink alcohol?

Sure do! I’ve been really into mixed drinks and hard cider lately.

18. Do you have a workout buddy?

Mal or Kerrie, depending on which CrossFit class I go to.

19. What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a healthy lifestyle?

The best thing that has changed is turning my commitment to a healthy lifestyle into my career. When I first started CNC, I had no intention of it ever becoming anything more than a hobby blog, but as time passed and my enthusiasm for health and fitness grew, I started to realize just how much I wanted to continue to share my passion with others. My love for healthy living now extends beyond CNC, and it’s truly an integral part of my life.

20. What was the last healthy thing you did?

I drank some water. Long flights are especially dehydrating!

  1. Best thing since committing to a healthy lifestyle? FINALLY getting my IBS under control. I feel a million times better since I started eating better and working out regularly.

    Usual lunch? Sandwiches, but I’m getting super bored with those. Time to switch it up!

    Biggest supporter? Definitely my husband. Trying to get healthier has been so much easier with him on the journey along with me. It definitely would be difficult to eat well if he kept bringing junk into the house.

  2. What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a healthy lifestyle?

    Myself, in all the ways. I left a bad relationship, started my residency, and found confidence in myself as a mom, a future audiologist, a nerd, a geek, and everything that makes me who I am.

    What do you usually eat for lunch?

    Leftovers if they’re available. If not, a salad with some sort of cheese, some good fat like olives or almonds or avocado, and a yummy Greek yogurt.

    Who is your biggest supporter?

    My mom. She uprooted her life and sold some property to help me care for my son while I finish up my doctorate. She’s amazing.

  3. I’d def get the “Sport Essential Long Bra Top” & I dig the look of the “Meshie Short” – both would make for a fabulous run!

  4. Best thing since changing to a healthy lifestyle would be CONFIDENCE. I’ve always sort of faked it, but even though I still have such a long way to go, I feel so much better about myself! Having a blog definitely holds me accountable, and there are still days I chow down on french fries and ice cream, but days that I workout I feel amazing. And it’s nice to do something for myself!

  5. Even though I don’t do cross fit, I would TOTALLY go with the CrossFit Nano 2.0 shoes! They are stylish but also a little hardcore! 😉
