3 principles for getting toned in perimenopause

1️⃣Eat higher protein, lower carbs

Just a heads up: This does NOT mean start a keto diet, but most women need to eat more protein and fewer refined carbs and less sugar. Protein is important for sooooo many reasons from brain health and blood sugar balance to satiety between meals and BUILDING MUSCLE!


2️⃣Do less cardio

During perimenopause, our bodies create more cortisol (our “fight or flight” hormone) in response to stress, including physical stress like exercise. The more cortisol flowing through our bodies, the more we hold onto fat, which is the opposite of what we want! This is why you should prioritize strength training (muscle, muscle, muscle) and limit too much high intensity cardio.


3️⃣Increase strength training


As we approach our late 30s and early 40s, our strength and muscle mass naturally decreases as our hormones begin to decline. If you want to feel and look younger, strength training is the way to go! More muscle gets you the ‘toned’ look you’re after!
