My Newest Crush
Did you watch Jersey Shore last night!?! Obviously, I was glued to my TV.
After watching the entire first season and the premiere episode of Season 2, I now have a (weird) crush on Pauly D. He’s hysterical and good-looking, but he’s totally not my type– mostly because he’s dumb as bricks.

I do, however, think I’m hardwired to find Guidos attractive. I’m half Italian (my maiden name included two Z’s and an O at the end), so maybe it’s in my genes to like guys who are “tall, dark, and handsome”? Perhaps it’s possible, but my true “type” is blonde, blue-eyed, smart, funny, and loves pugs!
Breakfast
I tried something new for breakfast this morning. I chopped up a thick piece of Manna Bread and let it soak in my overnight oats. It ended up tasting like a mushy muffin. Yum! Also in the mix: oat bran, chia seeds, walnuts, vanilla soy milk, and Barney Butter.

I love playing this game! With a blog, it’s fun to look back and see what I was doing a year ago. Here’s what I was doing at the end of August** last year:
- Moving out of our old apartment and into Dave and Marie’s guest room!
- Living with Dave and Marie for nearly 3 weeks.
- Taking Murphy to the dog park for the first time ever. He was so scared!
- Working out at Healthworks in Cambridge.
- Eating Mal’s Chicken Olé. (Be sure to see how tiny Murphy is in this post!)
** I wrote this post before I had my coffee. Posts should have been the end of July!
Friday Feta Giveaway

Question of the Day
When it comes to men (or women), do you have a “type”? If so, what is it?

You’re so funny! When I started reading this post I was thinking, “really?!”. I think I’m attracted to the tall, dark and handsome type, too
My husband is 100% Hungarian.
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg — July 30, 2010 @ 8:48 am
I’m definitely attracted to nerdy guys…I guess that’s why I married a professor! I’m also always drawn to darker hair and eyes…I’ve never dated a blonde!
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday — July 30, 2010 @ 8:49 am
Pauly D? Seriously,Tina? Seriously?
amanda @ fake ginger — July 30, 2010 @ 8:50 am
I definitely read that as ‘be sure to check out how tiny Mal was’. I was very confused.
I’m typically attracted to dark hair, dark skin, Middle Eastern types. I always dated blonde hair, blue eyed boys but I definitely married my “type”.
Exercise and Eat — July 30, 2010 @ 8:52 am
I’m Italian too! Demartini- and I LOVE the dark look. Never thought it could be genetic!
Leah @ L4L — July 30, 2010 @ 8:53 am
Nearly all of my exes are dark haired with blue eyes. I love it.
Rachel @ Suburban Yogini — July 30, 2010 @ 8:55 am

I totally have a type! Tall, surfer looking guys with a great sense of humor is my type
Rosey Rebecca — July 30, 2010 @ 8:58 am
Oh my goodness. Thank you for telling me about Murphy puppy pics on twitter. I am about to run to Boston to pet him. I remember reading those posts from a year ago! Time flies!
diana(mymarblerye) — July 30, 2010 @ 9:00 am
I use to go for the “bad boys”…I thought I could change them…what an idiot. Now I’m with a nerd and I’m loving our relationship. who you are attracted to reflects who you are and where you wanna be!

Holly @ couchpotatoathlete — July 30, 2010 @ 9:02 am
I have always liked geeks and nerds — not Screech Powers nerdy, but I think you know what I mean. I married an IT Manager, what can I say?
I usually love dark eyes, but my husband has blue eyes, so I guess it depends on the person!
taylor — July 30, 2010 @ 9:02 am
i dont think i really have a type.i just like guys who are funny, sweet, thoughtful, basically a southern gentlemen.ok so maybe i do have a type.haha…………..im only 19 so im not looking for anyone, ive never even had a bf.
Kristy — July 30, 2010 @ 9:03 am
Bahhh – Tall, Dark and Handsome is totally my type and I sometimes tend to crush on Blue Eyes & Blonde Hair. I dunno why but those side stomach tattoos drive me crazy then a little angle taps on my shoulder and tried to tell me it is “dirty”
Marilou @ Mostly Healthy — July 30, 2010 @ 9:03 am
OMG , I forgot how baby Murphy was cute!
Can’t wait to live in a dog friendly house and have my own little pug
*Andrea* — July 30, 2010 @ 9:12 am
love the jersey shore. so trashy and ridiculous but yet so entertaining. sadly, a lot of college guys do act like them. i like vinny the best b/c he seems to have the most values and is funny, sweet and cute but not too cocky. however in the previews it looks likes he hooks up with jwoww AND angela! bad choice lol
tall dark and handsome is def my type being 1/2 armenian (close enough to italian haha). mal’s the complete opposite though lol but i think mal is very handsome
Tina — July 30, 2010 @ 9:14 am
@Ali @ Redhead Reports: Oh my gosh. LOL! Apparently, I need more coffee!
Shannon — July 30, 2010 @ 9:16 am
Hmm I used to think I had a physical type – tall, dark handsome, but my last boyfriend was blond and blue-eyed. My type of guy, regardless of how he looks, is usually funny, confident, a lil bit cocky, intelligent, and generous.
I’m actually not a huge fan of Pauly D – I like Vinny better, he’s more down to earth!
christina — July 30, 2010 @ 9:20 am
i definitely have a type – dark, handsome, with brown eyes..man oh man they get me every time
Amy B @ Second City Randomness — July 30, 2010 @ 9:29 am
I would assume Pauly D could be cute… if he lost the 5 pounds of daily hair gel… not my thing. :p
I’m definitely attracted to a type- tall/lean/athletic/boy next door. Since I’m close to 5’8 without heels, it seems my eyes are instantly searching out the tallest boy in the room when we go anywhere. It’s ridiculous.
jen — July 30, 2010 @ 9:29 am
I’ve definitely always been attracted to dark hair and dark eyes, but a smart guy who cares about himself and the earth is way more important than hair or eye color to me!
Kelly — July 30, 2010 @ 9:30 am
Ugh the Jersey Shore. That is not what it’s really like at the Jersey Beaches! I’m refusing to watch this season. I dunno if I have a type, i’m pretty sure every serious boyfriend i’ve had has looked completely different.
Alison — July 30, 2010 @ 9:33 am
In theory, my type is “tall, dark and handsome”. These are always my celebrity crushes. HOWEVER, my reality type is in touch with his dorky side and has a goofy sense of humor. I think it balances me out since I’m pretty shy and reserved at first. I always have more fun and connect better with this type. I wonder what that says about me, haha..
Gracie @ Girl Meets Health — July 30, 2010 @ 9:36 am
You’re officially my favorite person. I LOVE PAULY D!!!! Could I tell you why? Absolutely not.
My “type” has changed so much over my short lifetime. For a while I liked the skater/hipster type. And then of course there was the “Edward Cullen” phase. Right now I’m seeking out a classic TDH (tall, dark, handsome
) But honestly, I’d go for pretty much every specimen of the male gender at this point (whaaat? did I just say that?
)
Lindsay @ The Ketchup Diaries — July 30, 2010 @ 9:40 am
Funny because Mr. KD is also blonde and blue eyed and I never thought that was my “type”. And please for the love of God, Pauly D is NOT HANDSOME!!!
Bliss — July 30, 2010 @ 9:46 am
Ha, my husband is on the shorter side for men (as were most of the men I dated, now that I think about it) but I had always considered my “type” to be tall and athletic.
Amanda-The Nutritionist Reviews — July 30, 2010 @ 9:57 am
My type is guys with dark hair for sure. Idk why but I have never been attracted to blondes.
And for Jersey Shore, The Situation’s abs are to die for!
AllieNic @ Frisky Lemon — July 30, 2010 @ 9:58 am
um..I also have a strange guido crush on Pauly D…I think it’s his hair…KIDDING…but I really do think he’s cute. I usually go for guys that are way taller than me– like 6’1″ and up. That’s the only thing that defines my “type” so to speak. My boyfriend blond and blue eyed and 5’11″ and he is TOTALLY my type…it depends on personality…I like the funny, quirky ones!
Marg — July 30, 2010 @ 10:05 am
I do like dark hair – not Pauly D though. But I’m dating someone w/reddish blonde hair and blue eyes.
Jillian — July 30, 2010 @ 10:11 am
This cracks me up! My boyfriend is Italian (I’m probably a third Italian, but you’d neverrr guess) and he looks vaguely similar to Pauly D- people have actually told him that! Ha- he took *slight* offense to it. But his hair is way better and he’s not a douchebag, thankfully.
Michelle @ Turning Over a New Leaf — July 30, 2010 @ 10:12 am
I’ve not seen Jersey Shore, but over the years I’ve definitely been attracted to the tall, dark-haired guys more than anything. Not especially dark guys, though, at least in skin tone. I liked the guys who were artsy, philosophical, and creative, if not a little mysterious.
But then I married a blond who’s only two inches taller than me. He’s also an auto mechanic and bonafide country boy. While he does play the trumpet, artsy he is not. Haha! It’s God’s sense of humor in my life.
Anne — July 30, 2010 @ 10:13 am
Murphy is so tiny in that post. Where is that dog park? Is it fully enclosed? We’re going to try the big one by the New Balance factory in Newton this weekend.
Mary @ Bites and Bliss — July 30, 2010 @ 10:13 am
I definitely have a type..in fact my parents pick on me for how picky I am. For the most part they’re the adventurous, smart (not nerdy) type.
Lena — July 30, 2010 @ 10:25 am
I love me some Pauly D too! The cast was on Rachel Ray yesterday (I think it was a rerun) and was so adorable…but you’re right, not the brightest bulb
I don’t think I really have a type although I am drawn to athletic men with dark hair.
Jessica — July 30, 2010 @ 10:26 am
I am Italian with an 11 letter last name that ends in an “a” and am engaged to an Italian with two z’s and an “i” at the end of his name. How ridiculous would it be if I hyphenated?!
PS. I have a crush on Vinny! He’s adorable and one of the smartest in the bunch.
Heather (Heather's Dish) — July 30, 2010 @ 10:30 am
always tall (i’m 5’10″), strong, funny, and i prefer lighter eyes…although if someone has really dark intense brown eyes i might melt too
Shari — July 30, 2010 @ 10:32 am
Funny thing..when I lived in Boston I ran into Pauly D one day during my lunch break at work. It was obvious he was trying to lay low since he was talking the back streets. At first I wasn’t sure if it was him but then it was confirmed that he actually was in Boston that night. You really can’t miss his hair. I must say as dumb/addicting as that show may be, he is definitely the most attractive one on it. I too am I tall, dark and handsome guy. Although blonde hair, and blue eyes can do it for me too.
Lola — July 30, 2010 @ 10:34 am
I don’t think I have a physical type. I’ve done it allllll, baby! In fact, I was thinking about it a little while back and realized I’ve dated/”talked to”: an Aussie, an Italian (from Italy..looked EXACTLY like Viggo Mortensen), a half Spanish/half French, a handful of Spanish guys (totally varied…some blonde, blue eyed, others dark and “spanishy”), African-American, Mexican, all varieties of “white” Americans, various mixed races, jeeeesus christ i’m going to just stop right now…
Shanna — July 30, 2010 @ 10:48 am
Tall and lean! My hubby is 6’4″ and I’ve never dated under 6 ft
Lauri — July 30, 2010 @ 10:49 am
I love me some Pauly D too – He is hilarious! I haven’t watched last night’s episode yet but I loved last season when he had the “stalker” and he called her mad crazy. Ha!
kyla — July 30, 2010 @ 10:55 am
Pauly D and the Situation are hysterical together. Although I think Vinny is adorable. He seems the most genuine out of the group. One of the best parts last night was when they showed the difference in the cab rides on the way to the club. The girls were fighting and the boys were silent. Hilarious!
I’m definitely attracted to darker skinned, brown haired guys. Maybe it’s because I’m fair, blonde, and blue eyed?
Kelsey Geist — July 30, 2010 @ 10:55 am
It seems all of the guys I have dated in the past were super good looking… tall, dark (latino), and handsome. I also liked the guys with some spunk and really outgoing.
Whats funny is that my husband is a tall, brownish redidsh blondish hair, blue-eyed, freckled kid that is so white he stands out at the water park easily. He is very quiet, reserved, conservative. He is not the party type but likes to get together with small groups of friends. So much different than ANYONE I ever dated… and totally perfect for me. So, I guess the “type” I thought I liked, was really just a figment of my imagination… because my husnad is totally my type.
ashleigh — July 30, 2010 @ 11:01 am
Hahah that’s so funny! I love Jersey Shore! Last nights episode was so funny.
I don’t really have a type.. I’m still searching!
Danielle — July 30, 2010 @ 11:04 am
My husband is Colombian, so I love dark-haired, olive complexion men. However, I have a crush on Vinny in the Jersey Shore.
Tina — July 30, 2010 @ 11:04 am
Ack! His overly gelled hair and shadow-stache reminds me of a 14 year old going through puberty who is trying to show more masculinity than his hormones will allow!
Ha ha… a sign that I’m def too old to appreciate the merits of Jersey Shore.
My type is: creative, funny and tall with good taste in movies and music. And someone who is fun and spontaneous and can break me out of my workaholic tendencies.
You may be Italian, but between Mal and Murphy, you seem to have a good Irish connection. As an Irish-Italian myself, I approve!
Tina — July 30, 2010 @ 11:07 am
That totally sounds like something I would do with mixing up July and August. Still fun to look back though.
JC — July 30, 2010 @ 11:12 am
GTL! Love Jersey Shore. I think my favorite guy is Ronnie. Something about those beefy muscles…
Lindsay — July 30, 2010 @ 11:18 am

Angela — July 30, 2010 @ 11:20 am
Pauli D is my favorite of all of the JS boys! He’s so sweet.
As for my type – I don’t know that I have one. But my friends can always pick guys I think I would like. I have a wide range in taste, from Asian (my current boyfriend), to shaggy surfers (my last bf), to all American, it really varies.
shelly@campinggirlchronicals — July 30, 2010 @ 11:26 am
Murphy was so freakin cute in the dog park post!
Megan (Braise The Roof) — July 30, 2010 @ 11:26 am
Haha, I’m so glad it’s only the end of July and not August!!
My type is usually tall, clean cut, all-American. I made the mistake once of telling my boyfriend this and he wasn’t thrilled- he doesn’t fit that mold. I guess he’s my new type!
Megan — July 30, 2010 @ 11:29 am
Dumb. as. BRICKS. And does he seriously have “Cadillac” written down the side of his body??? Hysterical. I can’t argue that they’re fun to watch, though
All your posts about Murphy really make me want to get a dog…
Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman — July 30, 2010 @ 11:43 am
I totally disagree…ick, ick, ick. Maybe he’s just not my type. At all. I prefer guys who use less hair product than me.
Barbara(Blood, Sweat and Heels) — July 30, 2010 @ 11:44 am
Tall, dark eyes and hair and FUNNY!
Julie — July 30, 2010 @ 11:46 am
I love Pauly D! I think he’s hilarious and cute, which is exactly my type. I love a guy who can make me laugh and isn’t afraid or “too cool” to be a goofball. My favorite quote is “if you can make a girl laugh, you can make her do anything” which it 100% true for me! As far as physical attributes, I’m attracted to tall, dark and handsome. I have a thing for tattoos and baldness…but if he has no sense of humor forget it.
Deirdre — July 30, 2010 @ 11:54 am
Since my first bf was 6’4 I tend to like guys that are taller. In high school, I was totally into jocks but then in college I had a major crush on a musician. So I’m all over the place but def tall, dark hair, and blue eyes. With hair preferably
Anya @ Fitness & Sunshine — July 30, 2010 @ 12:03 pm
Hmm I don’t really think I have a type. I really love my current bf though and think his personality is overall amazing.
Carly (Swim, Run, Om) — July 30, 2010 @ 12:15 pm
Yeah, I have no type. Generally good-looking, wealthier men. Stereotypical and maybe superficial, but I can’t help myself around a handsome man!
Katie — July 30, 2010 @ 12:26 pm
I like the kind of dorkier guys but have a little bit of that hot jock look. Good combo for me but hard to find! Ps what’s your middle name?

@Katie: Anne. Why?
Patti — July 30, 2010 @ 12:37 pm
I always thought I had a type: dark hair and eyes, and almost effeminate. Then I met the love of my life, very blonde, blue eyes, 6′ 3″ tall and with an awesomely deep voice. I fell instantly head over heels for him and to this day (3 years later) cannot believe how gorgeous my boo is!
Heather — July 30, 2010 @ 12:38 pm
I didn’t get a chance to watch Jersey Shore last night, the boy and I decided to catch up on some other Tivo’d shows and save it for the weekend. I can’t wait to watch it!
I used to totally go for the “Jersey Shore Guido” type when I was younger, but not so much anymore. I still definitely prefer darker complexion and hair though. It’s funny because my boyfriend isn’t my typical “type”, but we work…funny how life works out sometimes and hands you something you weren’t expecting!
Lynn (The Actors Diet) — July 30, 2010 @ 12:41 pm
in college i dated a lot of musicians – and a surprising number of them were bass players – both electric and upright! my husband, who i met at the end of college, is neither – he’s a filmmaker!
stephanie@Avocado Nation — July 30, 2010 @ 12:57 pm
I never thought I would hear the words “Pauly D” and “good looking” together in the same sentence, but to each his own.
Seriously though, the guy has a body that just won’t quit. I just wish he would do something about that hair!
Amber K — July 30, 2010 @ 1:08 pm
I don’t really have a “type”, but my celebrity list was always Paul Walker, Leo DiCaprio and Ryan Reynolds, so maybe I do! Although my husband is the cutest ever and he looks nothing like them!

This is going to sound weird, but since I’ve been watching “The Sopranos” series all over again, I find I have a huge crush on Tony Soprano. He’s America’s most love-able gangster! Other than having crushes on fictional mob bosses, my type typically involves someone dorky, baby-faced, and funny…think Seth Rogen.
Your overnight oats look delish, clever addition with the manna bread!
Maura — July 30, 2010 @ 1:27 pm
Oh I so have a type!! It’s pretty much Kirk from the Bachelorette. Love the light haired, blue eyed, tall (sorry Kirk) guys! All 3 of my long term relationships were exactly that! Maybe I should branch out more? LOL

Sara Kirby Ames — July 30, 2010 @ 2:35 pm
I am definitely into the tall, dark, and handsome type. I like guys that are taller than my 5’4″ height, who have broad shoulders, and a great laugh. Also, dark hair and light eyes don’t hurt
My boyfriend is 6′, broad in the shoulders and has dark brown hair and bright blue eyes. I’m not gonna brag but I tend to think he looks like Brendan Fraiser!
Brittany — July 30, 2010 @ 2:37 pm

My type is tall (like at least 6 feet) with a slightly nerdy look (I DIE for guys who wear glasses). And usually pretty skinny/lean with dark hair- I’ve gone for a blond every now and then though. These days, sadly, my type also involves being a bit of an arrogant prick- I’m hoping I’ll grow out of that, lol.
Stacey — July 30, 2010 @ 2:43 pm
I am usually attracted to guys that look like Brad Paisley… dark hair, dark eyes, killer smile and nice rear.
My real type, AKA: The Husband has blonde/reddish hair, hazel eyes, and a killer smile and nice rear.
Rachel — July 30, 2010 @ 2:48 pm
Jersey Shore was delicious last night. Seriously. I so loved it.
Pauly D is my favorite too! He would be so much sexier if he shaved that wax animal off the top of his head, but whatever.
Tara — July 30, 2010 @ 3:00 pm
I definitely do not have a “type” that could be described in three words. I think I am attracted to men more for their actions than their looks. If a guy holds doors, kisses my forehead, and treats me and other people with respect, then he is my type. Of course it doesn’t hurt if he is SMOKIN’ HOT!!
Luckily I have already found my #1 and he fits the bill.
Anna — July 30, 2010 @ 3:17 pm
Wow, looks like the dark and tall are really popular here.
I would say that’s my type as well~ there’s just something about dark hair that I love~ but hard to say for sure since I haven’t found the one yet.
Janna (janna's keeping it real) — July 30, 2010 @ 3:30 pm

I totally didn’t think I had a type until I was out with a friend at a bar a few weeks ago. I literally said “I don’t have a type” and she rolled her eyes and told me that every guy I’ve ever dated (and ironically, the guy I met at the bar last night) are always about 6 feet tall, clean cut, athletic, light hair and blue eyes. So I guess I do have a type.
Amanda @ Amanda On Foot — July 30, 2010 @ 5:21 pm
They MUST be smart. I tried to date idiots but it just doesn’t work. I always ended up getting frustrated and telling them how dumb they were.
Funny question.
~Amanda
Lauren @ Running Examiner — July 30, 2010 @ 5:27 pm
I’ve always preferred guys who are funny, creative, passionate about something (i.e., my boyfriend and soccer), tall, and fairly ripped
I’d like to think I don’t have a “type,” but I apparently do…
Intelligence is crucial, too!
Kayla — July 30, 2010 @ 7:13 pm
