OIAJ Tutorial

April 27, 2010

Good morning, folks! :-D

I’m going to a yoga class in a few minutes, so I need to whiz right through my breakfast post this morning. Hope ya don’t mind! ;-)

Breakfast

I get a lot of questions about Oats In A Jar (I mean, A LOT), so I figured that a little OIAJ tutorial might be helpful.

How to Make Oats In A Jar

Step 1: Cook your oats like you normally do– on the stovetop or in the microwave. Be sure to include all of your fun add-ins at this point.

IMG_0006.JPG

Step 2: Allow oats to cool a little bit– especially if you’re using a plastic nut butter jar. Otherwise, the heat of the oats will melt your jar.

Step 3: Pour oatmeal into empty nut butter jar.

IMG_0008.JPG

Step 4: Grab a spoon and enjoy your OIAJ!

IMG_0010.JPG

In my OIAJ this morning:

  • 1/4 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/4 cup chocolate raspberry Mad Hectic oatmeal
  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 cup water

And, of course, I enjoyed a yummy glass of iced coffee with breakfast this morning.

This morning’s iced coffee was Chocolate Truffle with vanilla soy milk. Mmm! So good! It was like a cold, creamy chocolate-coffee milkshake. (You can buy this flavor in my shop! ;-) )

Question of the Day

It’s a deep one…

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

P.S. There’s a great deal on Eversave today: $30 for an hour massage! I just bought one!

Love OIAJ:D
Oh my gosh, that is such a tough question! I would say ‘have equality’, but then so many people NEED someone to look up to, or to assert authority over them..hmm…
I’d probably say end world hunger – too many people are starving out there, yet too many Westerners are gluttonous and waste; it’s horrible.

I’ve yet to do OIAJ or over night oats. I guess I’m old school when it cones to oats but love all the add ins you can play with!

Weird question for you! Do you finish your coffee with breakfast or do you sip on it throughout the morning? My first coffee of the day I literally CHUG but after that I’m able to make it last. =)

Reply

Tina April 27, 2010 at 7:48 am

@Laura: Mine lasts all morning. Sometimes, I take so long to drink it, I need to add more ice because it all melts!

I have never done OIAJ! I know I am probably missing out.

I’ve yet to make OIAJ, but thankfully I have an almost-empty PB jar on hand. And an almond butter jar that’s almost ready too.

Diana April 27, 2010 at 7:54 am

I’m not a huge fan of nut butter (the horror! :P ) so I take veeeeeeeery long to go through a jar.

Emily Eats and Exercises April 27, 2010 at 7:57 am

I love oiaj because you get a little PB with every bite! I would never think you would get so many questions though. It seemed sort of self explanatory…

I have a jar of PB that is just about to be ready from some OIAJ action…i’m so excited!

I’ve never tried OIAJ. I have to start to like oatmeal, first! I’m sure the yummy nut butter would help – that I definitely like (no, LOVE) :)

Wow, that’s a hard question. I guess if I could change one thing about the world, it would be that no one would ever go hungry.

That’s a pretty deep question but I think for me it would be that no one goes hungry.

I don’t really get the appeal of oats in a jar. I usually end up tossing my empty jars to my puppy and she licks it clean. …and then chases it around for the rest of the day

I’ve still never tried OIAJ! Gotta give it a go…I have a few jars that are pretty close to empty!

I love OIAJ. I’ve only ever done overnight oats in a jar but I imagine the hot ones are good because they get the PB all melty. yum!

I would make everyone do yoga in the morning. :)

I really love oats in a jar as it’s a wonderful way to use up that last bit of peanut butter. If I have a glass jar I toss the whole thing in the microwave.

I’ve never had OIAJ!!! Can you believe it?!!?

That’s a very deep question for the morning. There’s so many thinks I would change about the world, I just don’t where to start…

First question of the day and it’s a deep one! If there was no intolerance (not just disagreeing, that’s important, but total refusal to consider or accept something different) I think it would help fix so many other problems.

I love OIAJ! One of the best ideas ever.
That IS a big question…. I guess I would change the fact that men have ruled the world since the beginning of time basically, and make it so women had more power :-) There would probably be fewer wars, I think.

Meghan@traveleatlove April 27, 2010 at 8:36 am

I would eliminate cruelty and hunger for both people and animals.

My father once told me that if he could change one thing it would be the concept of being “cool”, so many people do destructive things to themselves and others in order to be considered “cool”. I would have to agree especially since bullying has gotten way out of hand and most of the people that participate in the violence do so in order to fit in and because standing up for the victim is not “cool”.

Anne P April 27, 2010 at 8:43 am

Okay wait. So… I don’t microwave the jar with tin foil on top of it??

;)

Heather (Heather's Dish) April 27, 2010 at 8:44 am

this is a good but all-encompassing question…i would like to eliminate people’s sense of entitlement. it’s so prevalent now that everyone thinks they deserve stuff just for living and breathing, and the idea of hard work is lost!

If I could change one thing it would be people’s need to lash out at other’s when they themselves are suffering.

Oats in a jar is a great way to start the day!!! I am saving a jar right now. I know that seems weird, but it is such a treat! I would make people more considerate. I am so tired of people not being understanding. I think if we took some time to consider how what we say and what we do effects others we may appreciate each other a little more!

Have a great day Tina! I hope yoga is great this morning!

i feel bad but I’m not a fan of OIAJ!!!! :( If I could change one thing about the world it would be more TOLERANCE in the world! People tend to judge things they don’t know or want to know and will hate it just cause they don’t understand it!

Barbara(Blood, Sweat and Heels) April 27, 2010 at 9:18 am

Tough Question so early:)

I have to say, I’d like to increase tolerance for diversity. We are all so very different and it’s those differences that can breed hatred, fear and war. Instead of trying to conquor the world one bomb at a time, it would be nice to just appreciate who we are and what we have in the now. Here’s hoping that makes sense as it’s my 1st sip of coffee.

Thanks for the tutorial. I’m getting ready to try this for the first time pretty soon.

If I could change one thing it would be for people to be more happy with themselves and their life, and take the steps to improve what they don’t like.

I’ve had a few OIAJ mishaps! I always tried to cook the oats in the jar for the longest time before I realized that a) it caused a very large mess, and b) it melted the jar! Just a few weeks ago I figured out the cooking the oats as you normally would and THEN placing them into the jar. :)

You really get that many questions about eating oats out of a jar? haha I thought it was pretty simple :P

If I could change one thing about the world: Reverse all the pollution/damage we’ve done to the earth.

I usually just cook the oats right in the jar (if it’s glass and not plastic)… the flavor just gets that much more intense and nutty!

Julie @ Pickley Pear April 27, 2010 at 9:27 am

Thanks for the OIAJ tutorial, I make them the same way – it’s very easy! I usually make too much cause I try to fill the jar :) That’s ok though. Enjoy yoga!!

If I could change one thing about the world it would be that we all had teachers like the Dalai Llama or another pacifist. This isn’t a religious thing, it’s a peace and harmony thing. If we were all taught from a young age to meditate, to resolve things peacefully, to reflect, to be present, I think the world would be a much happier place.

THE WAY WE TREAT EACH OTHER….no matter where in the world we live or the conditions we are living in,or our religious/political beliefs or background….if we could only treat each fellow being around the world the same way we would want to be treated.

Perhaps there would be hope that maybe there one day could be a world where there was
no war
no hunger
no violence
no racism
HOPE

I love OIAJ!!! And you alwasy make ‘em look soooo good!

What would I change about the world? I would have people be more understanding. I think too many people act, react and fly off the handle simply because they never stopped to actually understand the other person and where they’re coming from.

What a great question. I would change the fact that we, as a human race, are so damn judgmental. We judge one another, we judge ourselves, we judge everything. Judgments lead to half the problems our world has and the problem we have personally.
