It’s been a busy morning so far!
I had a very early morning dentist appointment that I took a lot longer than expected, so I didn’t have time to hit the gym before work. Instead, I did a quickie at-home workout, which was inspired by an interview with Lauren Conrad in Shape magazine (September 2009).
For each exercise, I did 20 reps and moved from one to the next without rest. Completing the circuit 3 times took about 20 minutes. Better than nothing, right?
- Prisoner squats
- Double crunch
- Push-ups
- Chair dips
- Plank with knee tuck
Breakfast
Before my dentist appointment, I ate a big bowl of baked apple oatmeal. I sliced-up one of the Cherry Coconut Baked Apples from last night and cooked it with my usual bowl of oats.
Mmmmm! I love baked apples and oats together!
After my dentist appointment, I grabbed a quick snack to hold me over until lunch: raisin toast with peanut butter.
I’m brewing a much-needed pot of coffee right now (smells delicious!), so a travel mug full will also be part of breakfast this morning.
Need Some Inspiration?
To inspire me on my first day at NuVal, a reader sent this video to me:
Just wanted to share. I thought some of you considering career changes would appreciate it.
Question of the Day
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

So fun to read what everyone wanted to be when they were kids. I always changed what I wanted to be when I grew up – an architect, a vet, a chef. Now I would love something that combined my love for teaching, coaching, cooking, nutrition and fitness. Keep working hard, Tina!
I can’t believe a whole bunch of people wanted to be a vet. I thought that made me unique but I guess not hehe. I actually went right up to first year university in Biology thinking I would be a vet. However, the universe had other plans for me as I just wasn’t good enough at the sciences and had to switch. I then thought of going for a vet technician instead, but I applied to late and the program was already full so I did one year of accounting and liked it, so that’s what I’m studying now.
However, I don’t want to completely give up on working in animals so hopefully I can find a way to do both.
A firefighter or an actress. I am neither.
I love your oatmeal bowl! My parents had those with their names on them when I was little
Love the video! Thanks so much for sharing. When I was a kid I wanted to own a store.
Thanks for the inspirational piece – loved it! I am inspired!
I have wanted to be a lawyer since 5th grade. I am currently in my second year of law school.
I love that your dog is always watching your every move!! BTW how long does it take for you to get ready for work?! Your hair/outfit always looks so put together!
When I was young I wanted to be a pediatrician. I’m currently a pharmacist. LOVE babies still but I also love my work hours.
@dianacheung: Thanks for the compliment! If I am in a rush, I can be showered, dressed, and ready in 20 minutes. If I want to look “nice,” it takes me 45 minutes or so.
I’m all for any workout inspired by LC!
When I was younger, I wanted to be a doctor like my mom. Luckily, I decided to go my own way and like Jen (above) said, organic chemistry might have helped that decision a little bit.
MP in the background! Too cute!
never tried apples and oats but sounds soo great

I love when dessert becomes breakfast (and without any guilt!).
When I was little I wanted to be a neurosurgeon.
Not sure if you saw this article, but I thought you might enjoy it because it is semi-related to your new job! Not that you use the same criteria, just another ranking system.

Your oatmeal looks so dessert-like, you could call it apple oatmeal cobbler. Divine!
When I was a kid, I wanted to be an author/teacher/Broadway performer. I didn’t see why I couldn’t be all three. The ambition of youth…
When I was younger I wanted to be a teacher. NO desire to be one now I’m older, although the summers would be nice!! Best of luck to you in your new job!!
I wanted to be “an author, illustrator and teacher”. I’m now a music teacher.
i always dreamed to be a writer. i always thought that i was pretty good at it, and still to this day i dream to write for a magazine, preferable a fashion magazine! There’s still hope right?
Great video, thanks for sharing it!
I have always wanted to be a writer – I am just now taking steps to in the right direction.
that was a great video – thanks for sharing!
i’ve known since i was 5-years-old that i wanted to be an actress. i’ve taken some time on and off since then, but i’ve always stuck with it. i’m glad i have!
Those baked apples are just the dessert that keeps on giving. My goodness, in oatmel? How perfect.
When I was little I wanted to be a Psychiatrist (I was peculiar). After some dabbling here and there with other stuff, it’s still what I want to do and am going to Med School for next year.
Love the video. When I was little, I wanted to be a writer.
if you asked me when I was 4 what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would wholeheartedly say, “I want to be an ice cream truck driver!!” yeaaah, so serious, too. I thought I could have all the ice cream I wanted:)
Loved that video Tina – got me really jazzed for my upcoming career/life change! When I was in middle school, I wrote in the middle school yearbook that I wanted to be a race car driver, FBI agent, or in the Air Force – I didn’t want to be behind a desk!
I bet your oatmeal is what they eat in heaven:)
I actually wanted to be a cook when I was little–at a place in Pittsburgh called Eat N Park. It’s kinda like a Denny’s. I had lofty aspirations.
