Sweet Day Ahead

I practically bounded out of bed this morning! I hit the day early last night, so getting up at 7:00 was no problem for me. I was well-rested and ready to start my day… and boy, is it going to be a sweet one! ;-)

Breakfast

Breakfast was a fabulous bowl of oats. Lately, I’ve been switching things up with breakfast, so I was surprised that I had missed my usual bowl of oatmeal so much. I swear, today’s batch tasted better than I remembered!

In the mix:

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 3/4 cup vanilla hemp milk
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
  • Pecans
  • Dried apricots, chopped
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • 2 scoops of peanut butter

Workout

I had an awesome workout this morning! I finally got my dose of “Body Pump” that I’ve been craving!

Last weekend, when I was home for Mal’s birthday, I grabbed my weight set to bring back to our apartment. Having all of this extra “stuff” drives Mal crazy, but these weights are going to help me get ripped once again! I haven’t gained any weight, but I feel like I’ve lost a little muscle definition since this time last year. :-? Oh well, it’s nothing that can’t be fixed, right? I just need a tad more dedication to my strength training routine.

Equipment:

  • Javi Love’s Get Ripped! DVD
  • Free weight plates + bar
  • Bosu
  • Dumbbells

Jari Love’s Get Ripped! DVD is a weight workout using barbells, dumbbells, and body weight. Get Ripped’s format is a lot like that of a Body Pump class. You work all of your major muscle groups, one at a time, mixing low weight with high reps. You burn a ton of calories while building muscle during this fast-paced, endurance workout.

P.S. My Get Ripped! DVD may be different than the one I linked to above. It was released in 2005, so I’m not sure if the actual video is different or not. Here’s a clip from YouTube of the DVD that I own (just in case you want to buy the same one).

After my workout, I threw together a recovery smoothie with some caffeine.

Coffee-Banana Smoothie

Makes 1

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 cup coffee
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1.5 tbsp agave nectar
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
  • 1 tbsp hemp protein
  • Handful of ice

Directions: Add ingredients to blender. Blend until smooth. Enjoy!

Mohegan Sun

My fun and exciting weekend activity is a trip to Mohegan Sun!

My blog posts (Part I, Part II, Part III) about our trip in February caught the attention of Mohegan’s PR person and she invited me to come meet their executive pastry chef and put Mal and me up for the night! I’m obviously psyched! In addition to meeting the chef, Mal and I are being treating to a cake tasting. Holy yum!

I will likely blog from Mohegan as well as “tweet,” so be sure to check back for updates.

Happy weekend!!!

Your bowl of oats looks fantastic! I think I’ll have some tomorrow since I took a break from the usual breakfast. Unfortunately, Texas is so hot that warm breakfast don’t go over so well!
Hope you have fun at Mohegan Sun!

I’m feeling you on the toned problem! I used to go to a Body Pump class (for 5 years I probably only missed 7 classes!). I loved it…then I started medical school and the gym that had the class was 20 minutes away. I couldn’t take the time away from studies to drive just for a weights class…for the first year I was pretty good about doing it on my own, then it stopped! However, I really liked the way my arms looked then, so I’ve started back on my own! Hopefully, it’ll work…I do miss my pump, though!
