Oatmeal Pancake Return and Favorite Workouts

May 15, 2009

I used to make Oatmeal Pancakes all of the time, including pumpkin, blueberry, strawberry, and sweet potato varieties. An Oatmeal Pancake doesn’t take that much more time to make than a pot of oats, and I remember them holding me over until lunch without a problem. They’re delicious and satisfying– I wonder why I stopped making them? I guess this meal needs to be back in my breakfast rotation again!

Oatmeal Pancake

Recipe from Katheats.com

Ingredients:

1/3 cup oats
1/3 cup liquid egg whites
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Cinnamon to taste
Toppings to taste
Optional: 1/2 a mashed banana or 1/4 cup canned pumpkin, squash or mashed sweet potato

Directions:

  • Mix together oats and egg whites with baking powder, vanilla extract and cinnamon in a bowl. Optional: add half a mashed banana or other ingredients to the batter.
  • Preheat a skillet, spray with non-stick spray, and pour your batter in while shaping it into a large disc “pancake” with a spoon.
  • Heat until partially cooked and flip pancake.
  • Once cooked through, top with syrup, peanut butter, canned pumpkin, fresh fruit or banana slices.

One pancake is approximately 150 calories.

In addition to a lovely oatmeal pancake topped with Barney Butter and raisins, breakfast included watermelon, a dark chocolate Adora disk, and iced coffee with agave nectar and milk.

Favorite Workouts

As you may know, I am obsessed with Body Pump! It’s my favorite workout of all time! :-D Even though Healthworks recently started to offer the class at some of their locations, it’s just not easy for me to attend Body Pump on a regular basis. However, back in the day (aka before I started the blog), I used to do my own version of Body Pump at home with set of weights and a DVD of a similar workout. (As far as I know, Body Pump DVDs don’t exist. Although, you can find videos of classes on YouTube.) I sort of forgot about my at-home Body Pump workouts until the other day. We have no room in our apartment to store a set of weight, but somehow I’m going to make it work! I need Body Pump in my life again! I miss it!

What are your favorite workouts of all time?

My list

1. Body Pump

2. Running (including treadmill workouts)

3. Yoga

4. Smartbells

5. Gravity

6. Step Aerobics (I’m so 90′s!)

7. Soccer (I wish I played more!)

8. Strength training classes (ex: Body Defined)

9. Tennis

10. Walking/hiking

Cookie Friday

Just a little reminder: It’s Cookie Friday!

My Cookie Friday, however, might become “Mini Carrot Cake Friday.” I saw this delicious looking treat at the Crema Cafe the other day, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. Today might be the day to try it! ;-)

My favorite workout is running, but one group fitness class I like at my gym is called Total Conditioning. It’s a high intense cardio and strength class. Usually when I take it, I can barely walk for several days afterward!

Delicious breakfast! I think I am a big bowl of oats girl though. I like to eat them super slow =)

Yoga is my fave…clearly!

Have a great day! I think mini carrot cake day is DEFINITELY in order!

Hooray for cookie Friday!! I think it is so great to see a treat you love and then “give yourself permission” to indulge once a week!

My absolute favorite exercise is yoga because I never dread doing it. Sometimes I am not in the mood to run, but once I get out there, I remember why I loved it so much! I also love any kind of class that involves dancing – anyone ever try Body Jam?? FUN!

I LOVE bodypump – we’re going today, but it’s our last day at the gym :( we just can’t afford it right now. Do you remember what video you used when you did it at home? I want to keep my muscles so I know I need to start doing strength training at home.

Usually my favorite workout is running (obviously, that’s why I named by blog after it! ;)

But lately I’ve been feeling like I need a break from it and need to try something fresh and new. Now that summer is here, I plan on hiking a little more because I love the scenery you get as a reward for hiking to the top of a mountain!

I also enjoy biking and walking, and would love to give yoga a shot. :)

(p.s. Your pancake looks so yummy! I need to try that!)

My best friend owns and works at Crema and every time you go there you manage to get her in your picture! Crema is great – they had to gut the whole building so they could put in a kitchen in the basement so that everything could be made onsite. I sent her this post so she could see the pubicity – Hi Lize :)

Tina, long time reader: I just LOVE your outlook on food. You are one of the top three blogs that i read and gain inspiration from. After struggling with an eating disorder its marvelous to read blogs like yours and things like “Cookie Friday”. I found your blog first and i just wanted you to know how much of an impact it has had on me.

Tina,

I recently got a new workout video that I love. You do need some space to do it in and a pair of light weights (and I mean light – I am strong and I used 3 or 5 lbs. for this video). I get creative and move furniture around. It is called LaloFit and it is great. It keeps your heart rate up the whole time, is super challenging and great for toning. http://www.lalofit.com/englishindex.html

When you have room, I would definitely recommend it.

My favorite class is Spinning – I have been doing it off and on for 12 years and it is the only class I don’t get sick of and it is a great workout.

My favorite workouts are the 2 classes I went to this morning – World Beat Workout and Yoga Booty Ballet – lots of cardio dance plus some strength and yoga.

I JUST made my first oatmeal pancake and it was delicious. I put blackberries and real maple syrup on top. Thanks for the great idea.
