Frickin’ snow. WHY!?!?!?!?! šæ
Ok, that was sort of random, but that’s how I feel about the S word.
Breakfast
I tried something new for breakfast this morning: oat bran mixed with ricotta, almond milk, and honey. It was really creamy and sort of sweet. I also added a big scoop of almond butter for some added staying power.
And, as always, I drank an iced coffee with soy milk.
THIS IS COOL!!!
Last night, the rep from Smuttynose told me aboutĀ a great trainingĀ website for runners (and triathletes). It’s called ontri, and it creates FREE training plans for you based on your race distance, level, and date of the event.
With my crazy racing schedule this spring, I’m notĀ actively training– I’m just trying to make it through alive! So, I’m focusing my attention on the Run to RememberĀ at the end of May. I used ontri to create a half marathon training plan, which includes a mix of running workouts (intervals, fartleks, long, recovery) and it looks like it might help me PR?!
Question of the Day
Do you use online training tools? If so, what are your favorites?
I also love Dailymile! I record all of my runs with it!

I’ve been using a training plan which is a big tool for me, but otherwise I just do my own tracking!
So sorry you’re still dealing with snow! š
What a neat tool! I tend to be a planner, but I like to write things out and see them on paper. It’s a personal choice, and I defintely understand the benefits of online/digital trackers and planners!
AUGH, this winter weather needs to END! Hope that all melts quickly for you today.
Looks like you got the snow that we had yesterday morning! Thankfully most of it melted last night.
I don’t use training tools — I found my plan on halhigdon.com and I use a regular old calendar to track it all. Ontri sounds like a good idea!
Heh. The month of March was what convinced me to move from Connecticut to Virginia. Up there on March 24, it’s winter. Down here on March 24, it’s glorious, fragrant, flowering spring. š Hang in there.
In regards to the snow – I feel ya, sista!
I don’t know “why” about the snow either – we got some last night too!
Love the 1st photo! I really like dailymile too. The plans on runnersworld.com are my go to resource, even though I usually end up just making up my own plan as I go.
Spring weather will be here before we know it!! (I hope!)
We got snow too…but jeez, you gotta take a chill pill! We can’t do anything about the snow, so it’s better to just roll with it š (Someone recently told me that those of us on the East coast should only get one complaint card due to weather since we get all seasons….and if we’re truly unhappy for more than one, we should move somewhere else (!) Therefore, I’m saving all of my complaining for the humid, sticky gross summer days that I loathe :D)
Ugh! I’m with you on the snow. We might be getting some in DC this weekend š
cottage cheese or ricotta in a bowl of oatmeal is fabulous!! P.s. that online tool looks rockin’ š
I hate the “S” word too at this point. I was furious when i woke up this morning and it was falling out of the sky! It was not much but still… I was mad.
I think you have a problem…An iced coffee problem. haha.
I have sympathy with you for the snow! We haven’t got any here now and we don’t get that much anyway but we had a massive snow storm earlier this year and when we do the whole country just stops!
I use Daily Mile, but I make my own training plans on Excel. I take bits and pieces from other plans, but I know what’s actually feasible for me (meaning I know I can’t do a mid week 8 mile run with the baby when 6 is the limit of her patience). It’s not as hard to do as you think!
I’m in RI and was NOT a fan of waking up to snow this morning either! I whipped up a bowl of oatmeal, though, to help bury my woes. I’m so ready for spring!
We got snow overnight, too, but thankfully not nearly as much as they were predicting!
The title of this post could NOT explain it any better. Whyy!?!?! *Falling to knees, hands on head*
The snow up here has really gotta end.
I love mapmyrun and logyourrun!
I love to add ricotta in my overnight oats when I have pumpkin. Mmmm-mmm.
That is so cool! I’m going to check out ontri for sure. I don’t use programs from online sources to log my workouts regularly, but I certainly get ideas from them. Runnersworld.com has a great one but I haven’t tried many others… yet!
I will be beyond thrilled when I see at least two weeks of weather in the 60s and above. That website looks cool; I used runnersworld to make my plan, but I’m looking for something different next time around.
Haha–I so vividly remember the Nancy Kerrigan incident. I second your sentiment–where is spring???
i’m with you on the snow, we got 5 inches last weekend in central california. more to come this weekend š
I KNOW!!! SO mad about the snow. I hate it. A lot.
haha I think the Nancy Kerrigan mention perfectly captures just how brutal it is to get snow this late in the season š I’ve wondered about the addition of ricotta cheese in my morning oats but have always stayed away – perhaps I’ll give it a whirl soon!
I was in 2nd grade when that happened to Nancy Kerrigan and I remember being so devastated! She was my favorite & I had posters of her in my room…it broke my heart!
OMG That Nancy Kerrigan picture brought back some crazy memories!! I did a really good imitation of her “WHY??” and my mom made me do it in a restaurant once. I was mortified.
I’m done with winter. Bring on spring!
My boyfriend built the iPhone app for onTri!!!
I just use my Garmin or rely on my boyfriend who uses Run Keeper. They’re locally based too.
I need to become a runner just so I can use the word “fartlek”
Thanks for sharing ontri! I’m going to check it out! I’m also on dailymile and I used to use beginnertriathlete but dailymile is easier to use!
Ahhh! I wish there was a way to bottle some warmth and send it your way. š
Were getting snow on Friday. I cant stand the thought!!
I also love dailymile–but I always forgot to update!
I like to use http://www.mapmyrun.com/ I like that there is an option to plan mileage following the roads or “off-roading.” I also have used it to plan routes in othe cities in advance before leaving town.
I just joined daily mile, need to get in there and use it more. Also have used something called training reports or something like that, don’t remember the exact name. Found it on Hal Higdon’s website.
I know how you feel about the “S Word”…I live in mid-Michigan and we just got 8 inches of it! >:/
Sorry about the snow Tina…that really stinks!
Oh wow. Way to bring back a classic!
Thanks for capturing exactly how I feel about today’s snow too!
I usually use runner’s world’s training tools.
I also use dailymile, which I love! But ontri looks interesting. Up until now, I’ve picked up training plans through Cool Running, Runner’s World, other fitness magazines, and random Google searches.
Just remember you aren’t Tanya Harding and suddenly the snow doesn’t seem quite so bad.
That is super cool! I’ve always wanted more detailed training plans (with speed work mixed in) but I never knew how to make one up myself. I’m definitely checking this out!
I woke up here in Chicago and thought the same sad thoughts. I clearly missed the snow memo because I didn’t dress appropriately, and quickly realized that it had snowed a little when I walked outside.
Spring where are you? Boston and Chicago are looking for you!
I’ve never used an online training tool, thanks for sharing Dailymile! š
I use Daily Mile (thanks to this blog!) and I used to use Run Keeper, but the GPS tracker kept getting messed up.
The only online training tool I use in Google Reader. Kidding š
No, I dont use any but that tool looks cool!
I have not used an online training plan but this one looks really cool and I think I’m going to try it! Thanks!
Wow, the ontri programs look amazing! Just as soon as I can shake off this injury, I’ll start one š
Girl I feel you! When is this winter going to be over?! I’m ready for the beach and SUMMER!!!
