I guess being snowed in isn’t all that bad. I actually got a ton of work done this morning, including updating a number of CNC pages:
As you can see, I’m finally digging out my favorite posts and making them easier to find, so be sure to check them out. There’s lots of good stuff! š
Snack
While work, work, working, I drank a second protein shake made with iced coffee, coconut milk, and Vanilla Whey Superior Charge. Surprisingly, the combination of flavors sort of tasted like gingerbread!
Lunch
Awesome lunch today!
I’m trying to use up the leftovers in the refrigerator before we leave for Phoenix, so I got a little creative this afternoon.
I combined leftover cooked quinoa with canned tomatoes, broccoli florets, salt, and pepper. I just mixed it all together and nuked it in the microwave for 90 seconds, which was just enough time to softened up the broccoli. My gosh, it was tasty! I will definitely make this dish again!
On the side, I had a toasted English muffin with almond butter and honey mixed together and spread on top. Mmm!
And here’s the scene behind my lunch:
Poor Mal spent the first part of the morning shoving snow and now he’s plowing through his grading. Hopefully, he’ll finish soon, so we can relax and hang out.
Oh, I also started packing for the marathon this morning.
After about 5 minutes, I felt overwhelmed and quit. Please, someone help me.
What should I be sure not to forget?

Your Garmin Charger!! (And all chargers!) Hate it when that happens.
ha! packing can be so stressful! my tip: just run through what you ABSOLUTELY need to run the race: contacts (if you wear them!), shoes, socks, underwear, sports bra, shorts, shirt, deoderant, etc. anything else you forget can be picked up at a gas station, wal-mart, target, whatever!
YOUR SHOES!!! Everything else is replaceable but it is hard to mimic shoes you have trained in!
great spoon in the shaker. if only it was a straw-spoon right? the weather has been out of control globally this year!
It’s a straw! š
Your sneakers!! I worked for TNT for nearly 4 years and I had someone forget their running shoes the weekend of their race. Not good when you are very far from home and about to run a marathon! And if you are chceking luggage, be sure to carry those suckers on or wear them on the flight. Do not check your running shoes!
Eeks! I can’t even imagine being snowed in! Hopefully it wont be for too long. I like what you did with your pages! Very informative for a beginner!
Don’t forget your everyday toiletries. I try my best to run through my routine in my head so I’m sure not to forget something small!
Your Ipod, sneakers, and comfy unders š The rest is doable if you forget!!
That lunch looks great! Good luck with the packing š
Did you make a list first?? That always helps!
I always make a list like Jen @ Taste Life. And I’m a firm believer that the worst part of a trip is packing. Just keep plugging along.
Wow your lunch sounds super easy and delicious! I think I’ll have to try it!
I just did my first marathon on Sunday! Are you bringing pre-race breakfast? I did. I packed a Justin’s single PB, 2 pieces of Ezekiel, and a banana. You might also want to bring an additional pair of comfy sneakers to wear around after the marathon or you could always just wear your running shoes. And maybe extra safety pins for your race bib b/c sometimes they run out.
Just in case I don’t get the chance to stop by after going home from the hospital, I wanted to be sure to stop in and say GOOD LUCK!!! Not sure what all to pack. I guess just be sure you have the things you KNOW you will want for a long run and the rest will work out.
So excited for you for this weekend. š
Your shoes are the most important. If you forget anything else you can always replace it.
I think that I see it on there, but don’t forget your iPod and the charger! And most importantly, good luck. We’re all pulling for you! š
Whenever I go on trips–especially ones that involve races!–I always make a checklist for myself. I have different categories: clothing, equipment, toiletries, documents (race registration, etc.), and other. Keeping track of what I need–and actually checking items off my list as I put them in my suitcase–makes me feel well-prepared and ready to go.
Pajamas.
OMG! I always forget mine! i end up sleeping in weird uncomfy clothes. it has happened a lot of times
1) Shoes
2) Chargers for iPhone/iPod/Garmin
3) Sports bra
I would carry these in your carry-on bag. Also, I’d try your best to NOT check a bag due to all the flight craziness.
Garmin Garmin Garmin. NEVER forget the Garmin! And any reg details you need, to collect your bib etc š
I can’t stand packing either, and I’ve got some to do this weekend too! Don’t forget your ipod charger, socks, hair elastics, and whatever you plan to eat before/during the race. i always forget hair elastics when i travel and i never fail to snap the one i do bring!
Happy snow day! I love your ladybug coaster. Where is that from??
Starbucks circa 1999. It’s really old!
Aw man, it’s really cute!
Make a list! I’m doing the full at the Rock ‘n Roll AZ this weekend too but I live in town so I don’t have that stress. Don’t forget your confirmation page that they emailed us. Garmin, chargers, Gu packs (they only have one Gu aid station on the marathon course!), water bottle (I carry one in races), socks, sports bra, hair ties, hat, sunscreen (yes even in January here!), gloves (it’s going to be <50 at the start), throw-away jacket (I always get one at GoodWill before races), etc. Looks like the weather is going to be perfect, the course is nice and flat, and it will be an awesome race! Good luck!
Lunch looks delicious! I love baking quinoa with veggies and cheese (Daiya)! It really is such a perfect meal!
I have done a bunch of out of town races..the things I always pack first are:
-registration information (confirmation slip, bib # etc)
-Garmin
-chargers for Garmin/phone/iPod
-body glide
-the actual outfit I am wearing on race day + any throw away clothing I might need if it is cold/windy – A Garbage bag works awesome!
-water belt w/ bottles, fuel (Gu, Nuun etc.)
-bandaids and safety pins
Pack ahead and then leave it be….
Don’t forget your shoes! I know that sounds stupid for me to say, but I forgot my shoes for a cross-country meet back in high school! Ahhh!!! It was a disaster!
dont forget your garmin and charger. everything else you can buy there if you were to forget. hopefully phoenix is warm, i gotta go check the weather now!
Packing isn’t really fun, but it’ll be soooo worth it when you get there and are all prepared!!!!
I wish I could be snowed in!!! It’s just raining like hell here instead…..Best of luck in AZ! Don’t forget your shoes:) Aloha!
mmm sometimes those “clean-out-the-fridge” recipes are the best! Sometimes they are the worst though. It is a fine line, but I’m glad you found something good!
I have a 5lb bag of quinoa to get through, so thanks for some new ideas! I also love it with some lemon juice, basil and feta!
Packing is so overwhelming.
We just did the Disney marathon and did not receive pins in our swag bag for our race bibs. Thankfully my husband and I discovered it the night before, but it was too late to go back to the expo. We had to buy two sewing kits in hotel store which contained two safety pins each; it cost us $8.50 for four safety pins!
Best of luck!
i’m moving in a couple months and i have plans to eat down my pantry too. i hope all of my hodge-podge meals turn out as well as yours looks! š
Don’t forget your SHOES! Everything else, you could probably replace, but new shoes wouldn’t be fun in 26 miles. š
I am packing right now too! But to go to Minnesota! Ah!!!
Bring your running gear in a carry on bag. Someone told me to do that when I flew to Florida for the Disney half. In case your luggage gets lost at least you have your running stuff (which is the purpose for your trip!).
Everything else is replaceable – you wouldn’t want to wear new running clothes on marathon day!
That lunch sounds great! And so simple!! I love dishes where you can just zap it in the microwave.
Emergency tampons…just in case it comes up and you don’t have time to buy any (like the morning of the race!)
Your iPod! You probably have the playlist already but does it include any songs by Muse? Hysteria and Uprising will get you pumping.
That’s good that you made the pages. I did that recently because I was having such a hard time find old posts!
It still HASN’T snowed here!
I’m not very good at throwing foods together randomly to make a dish actually taste good; I envy those who can!
Lunch looks great. Don’t forget sunblock.
I almost always forget sports socks…very important! You don’t want to be running a marathon without socks!
Dont forget to pack your sense of humor, patience, and compassion for yourself š You’re doing awesome, you’re gonna have a great race but traveling, snow, race day jitters, good to keep a happy go lucky attitude. Easier said than done, i know. But you’re gonna rock your race!!! š
Definitely your sneakers. I see you got that covered though!
The new (updated) pages look great
I would recommend taking your whole outfit for the marathon (including shoes!) in your carryon (and if you’re paranoid like me, an extra in your luggage). This way there will be no stressing that your favorite bra/shorts/top/socks won’t make it.
Don’t forget the charger for your watch!
Your lunch looks GREAT. I am in love with quinoa right now. If that were my bowl of lunch I def would have stirred in a little noochy nooch š
Packing is always so overwhelming! I always comfort myself by telling myself that if I forget something that I absolutely NEED, I can probably buy it at my destination (with some exceptions, like my wallet and phone š )
your shoes and your ipod! and your camera, so you can take us with you š
Phone charger! I made that mistake once and never will again.
Your lunch looks amazing! I love quinoa. I never know what to prepare with it. Thanks for giving me a great idea š
