Nicknames

The rain finally stopped, but it was still an oatmeal-type of morning… which is not a bad thing at all! 😉

I woke up with Mal and made us a big pot of oatmeal with banana, raisins, ground flaxseed meal, soy milk, brown sugar, and a scoop of Teddie peanut butter at the end. This is my Perfect Oatmeal.

And, as always, I enjoyed a glass of iced coffee with soy mik. I love the Birthday Cake flavor! 😀

Ok, now that breakfast is out of the way, let’s get onto the fun stuff! 😉

Recognize my oatmeal bowl? I first introduced it on CNC back in May 2009 and explained why it says “Christine” on the side. (Here’s the story.)

My full name is “Christina,” but my parents never really intended to use it. They’ve called me “Tina” for as long as I can remember. Ok, that’s sort of a lie. My mom occasionally calls me “Christine” and my dad calls me “Christina,” but the rest of the world calls me “Tina.” If you’re curious, I prefer “Tina.” 😉

My other nickname is “Peter.” My sister, her husband, and a bunch of her friends have called me this since high school. But, in nearly three years of blogging, I have yet to tell the “Peter story.” So, here it is!

In high school, when I was applying for college (before the internet was widely used), I called a number of admissions offices to ask for information about their schools. One day, a packet of admissions materials arrived at my house and it was addressed to “Peter.” Apparently, the person at the other end of the phone misheard me. No big deal. But, then another admissions packet from a totally different school arrived addressed to “Peter” once again. I guess I really mumble on the phone!? My family and I had a good laugh about it and the name has stuck ever since. Don’t I look like a “Peter?” 😉

And, of course, this guy has plenty of nicknames to laugh about: Turd Ferguson, Lazy Pants McGee, M.P.(Muphy Piranha), Gremlin, and Eraser Brain, among others.

(I can’t look at the photo above without laughing! 😆 )

Question of the Day

What are your nicknames? What’s the story behind them?

P.S. I’m hosting a giveaway on Trading Up Downtown to win some Stacy Pita Chips and an adorable autumn bowl. You can also see what I bought at the grocery store this week!

  1. Nicknames are so fun!! I have a few- one being Mare Bear because little kids can’t say “Mary” and I used to work with them..so it just stuck. My one at college is “Chesta” and I have no idea how it came to be..but it’s stuck. And Michael calls me “Kitten” because yes, it’s a pet name but also because I like to be pet. I always have, even as a little kid. 😛

  2. I have more nicknames than I care to recall. Miny, Amelia Bedelia, Meebslia, Memy, Memo, Meme and the one that has stuck with me for life – “Meebs”…

  3. As soon as I saw that picture of Murphy, I started laughing. Then I saw what you wrote underneath lol. I have a few nicknames, but my main one is Ravioli. When people first hear my last name, almost everyone automatically says it sounds like ravioli. (it’s very Italian lol). I’ve had that nickname my whole life!

  4. What a fun post!

My name is Desirae, but everyone calls me Dez.

Close girlfriends call me Dezzy. Or some variation of Dezzy-poo, Dezzy-bear.

BUT, my favorite nickname is from my Auntie. She calls me ‘Meka’. (sounds like mecca).

The story: My favorite food growing up, and still is, is macaroni and cheese. When i was little, when i would ask for it, it came out sounding like “mekaroni and sheeeeze pweeeeze”. 27yrs have gone by, and the nick name is still here to stay. 🙂
