Happy Hours

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Happy hour started early at HLS yesterday!

One of Kath‘s readers gave her a 4-pack of microbrews, so she kindly offered to share them with the people sitting at our table. Obviously, beer is part of healthy living. Maybe we can get a beer tasting on next year’s HLS agenda? We should work on that.

Once HLS ended for the day, a bunch of us headed out into Philly for happy hour.

Our first stop: Vintage Wine Bar.

I loved this place. It was sophisticated, but fun and funky at the same time.

I’ve been digging minerally white wines this summer, so I ordered a glass of viognier.

While we waited for our wine, we snapped a bunch of photos. Typical blogger move. (I <3 Beth’s photo bomb!)

Cheers to blog friends!!

I also shared an order of fried calamari with Beth and some of the other ladies. I’m pretty sure it was cooked in truffle oil, so, of course, I couldn’t keep my hands off of it. (Anyone know where the heck I can buy truffle oil? Whole Foods?)

The next stop on our happy hour adventure was Time, a whisky and absinthe bar. Sounds intense, right? Luckily, it had a nice beer and wine menu too.

Katie was the only one daring enough to try the absinthe.

Of course, we were ready to document her experience. She said she liked it!

IMG_0040 (640x480)

I ordered a Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin, which was strong, flavorful, and seriously spicy”” as in nutmeg and cinnamon. It reminded me of an amped-up Harpoon Winter Warmer.

IMG_0045 (480x640)

These lovely ladies also enjoyed a pumpkin brew.

At this point in the evening, many of us were hungry and wanted dinner.

IMG_0054 (640x480)

A little while later, we found ourselves at El Vez.

IMG_0057 (640x480)

I definitely didn’t need another drink, but the “Sexican” caught my attention. It sounded delicious (vanilla vodka + almond milk), but its name ultimately sold me.

IMG_0055 (640x480)

It was a tad too sweet for my liking, but I drank it anyway. I suppose it was dessert for the night.

IMG_0059 (640x480)

Beth and I were both in the mood for chips and salsa, so we ordered some along with a warm manchengo cheese dip, which I pretty much housed all by myself. (Sorry, Beth, I hope you didn’t want any!)

IMG_0062 (640x480)

We also shared an order of black bean enchiladas, which were exactly what my drunk self needed.

IMG_0063 (640x480)

After dinner, everyone went out for one more drink, but I headed to bed since I had an early train to catch this morning. It was sad to say goodbye to my blog buddies, but I have a feeling that I will see them sooner than later!

I’m already looking forward to next year’s Healthy Living Summit!

  1. That wine bottle opener in the Vintage logo? My parents have that opener…and I’m pretty sure it’s older than me. lol

  2. Sounds like so much fun! I’ve been reading Kath’s HLS fun as well…I’ve never had any desire to go to Philly, but you all make it look like so much fun! Vintage def sounds like a place my wino self would like 😉

HLS is new to me…going to look into attending next year!

  3. Hey, Truffle oil is the most delicious thing ever!! I buy it at TJ-Maxx or Wegmans….I don’t know if you have Wegmans in Boston but it is the most amazing grocery store ever and much more reasonably priced then Whole Foods!

  4. El Vez is AMAZING!!! I love their chicken tortilla soup and nachos! That is one restaurant I miss in Philly!

  5. I found truffle oil at Fry’s (It’s probably Kroger or something different over on the east coast). It was a little expensive, but I couldn’t resist when I actually saw it on the shelf!

  6. So before heading to Philly last night for my race expo, I checked here for the places you went to eat because they looked fun. Then I checked on a map and thought they were too far from where we would be and I ended up walking right past the Vintage Wine Bar last night! Ha! We scoped it out for our next girl’s night out though 🙂 Just thought it was funny! Loved the wine bottle chandelier they had there!
