I’m really diggin’ being home with my guys. The two of them just make me happy and spending time with them feels so good. As cheesy as it may sound, I’ve been smiling from ear-to-ear for the past few days now. :mrgreen:

Murphy, however, was not smiling when I told him that “Bear” couldn’t come with us on our afternoon walk.

It was much too wet outside for stuffed animals.

Plus, I didn’t want to carry Bear all over the neighborhood once Murphy got distracted by something else, like sticks, soggy leaves, or The Donkey. It doesn’t take much to divert this dog’s attention! Mal says he has an “eraser brain” (as in the size of an eraser). 😆

Dinner

After a looonngggg walk, Murphy and I returned home to Mal cooking dinner. He found a recipe in his Men’s Health magazine for Linguine with Clams and got to work.

Murphy, of course, stayed by Dad’s side while he cooked. The pug loves being in the middle of the “action.”

To go along with the linguine, I made homemade garlic bread using sliced Italian bread, olive oil, and Garlic Gold nuggets. My goodness, it was delicious!

The Linguine with Clams recipe was super easy to make, but it turned sort of bland. The pasta didn’t have much flavor at all. Maybe some white wine or more garlic would have boosted its flavor profile?

Even still, it was a yummy meal. I finished my portion without a problem! 😉

Now, I’m eating an amazing cookie for dessert.

  1. Linguine and clam sauce is one of my favorite meals – I have never made it with real clams though. I buy the canned ones – I’m cheap and kind of scared of cooking the real ones! You can never have too much garlic in a meal like that!

  3. I made the pumpkin scones this evening, but I substituted dried cranberries for chocolate chips, they were so good and so easy too!! The house smelled cozy and fall-y and it was the perfect treat for a rainy evening!! Thanks for the idea 🙂

  4. my husband’s a vegetarian and i never cook meat or seafood – so whenever i see someone make one of my favorite dishes (linguini w clam sauce) i am SO IMPRESSED. i’m older than you, but i feel like you’re so much more of a grown up!

  5. Hey Tina!
    We make this a lot and I think some things that could help boost the flavor are
    1. Clam juice
    2. A can of chopped clams
    3. At least a few more cloves of garlic!
    4. A few red pepper flakes

    The clam juice and can of clams should probably replace the chicken broth. If you don’t want extra chunks of clam (which I like) you can just add some clam juice. It comes in a bottle right near the canned clams and all the canned seafood, tuna, etc.

    Let me know if you try it again!

  6. A bit more garlic and red pepper flakes certainly help. Another trick? Take the pasta out along with about 1/4 cup of the cooking water, two minutes before you think it is done and finish cooking it in the sauce. The pasta takes on more flavor and the sauce thickens by the starches released in the pasta water. I also use minimal oil to fry and add more raw in the end, I think raw olive oil has great flavor.

  7. I love time at home too; isn’t it the best?! We took a personal day from work today and had the best day ever.

    I usually add lots of garlic, dry white wine, chopped fresh parsley, and shallots to my linguine, along with a bit of butter and olive oil. Yum!

  8. I have never actually bought whole clams for a recipe and must say I am thinking I might have to now. I have always made due with the canned variety, but I would really love to make my next batch of rustic clam chowder with REAL clams.

    I’m gonna guess adding a bunch more garic and some white wine is exactly what the doctor ordered to spice it up a bit.

  9. Glad that you are feeling blissful at home with the boys! It’s awesome that your husband cooked dinner for you.
    When I get really stressed, the best way to feel better is to spend time unplugged from my email and iPhone at home with my boyfriend, dog and cat. The three of them crack me up constantly, and spending time with them is so relaxing.

  10. That picture of Murphy and his bear made my day. He’s so adorable! Can I just borrow him for a while? Oh, he might not make it back home. lol
