You guys know that I’m semi-obsessed with planning and tracking my workouts, right? It keeps me focused on my goals and motivated to achieve them, so I’m all about it. Plus, this type of health journaling really works:

In one of the largest weight loss studies to date, Kaiser Permanente asked nearly 1,700 participants to eat healthy and exercise. Nearly 2/3 of participants lost 9 lbs over the 6-month period. Those who logged their diet and exercise, however, lost an average of 20 lbs – more than double the amount of the non-journalers.

Write things down. Maintaining a workout and diet log will help you stay accountable. —Men’s Fitness (February 2009)

Like a diary for your body, keeping a workout log helps you train smarter and stay honest. Used wisely, logging your training could be just the edge you need to take your workout to the next level. —Oxygen (June 2008)

Recently, OpenSky introduced me to a great fitness + nutrition journal called fitbook that offers a unique 12-week system to track your progress and reach your goals. It’s awesome. Here’s why I love it:

  • It helps you create a game plan to achieve both your big and small goals.
  • You can plan your weekly workouts and log your daily eats, which helps keep you on track and accountable.
  • There’s a slot in the back to hold your gym card, ID, iPod shuffle, hair elastics, headband, etc.
  • It’s just 5.5 square inches, so it’s very travel-friendly.

OpenSky is offering a deal TOMORROW (Wednesday) on the fitbook (they’re the only supplier to offer it at a discounted price), so in order to drum-up some buzz for the sale, I’m giving away two fitbooks to two lucky CNC readers! (Good timing with the upcoming holidays, right?!)

You can earn a second entry by tweeting about or posting this giveaway on Facebook. (Just be sure to leave a second comment with your tweet/FB post.) I’ll randomly pick two winners tomorrow morning.
