Fall In Full Swing

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Fall is officially in full swing here in southern Massachusetts: cool weather, cozy sweaters, and pumpkin spice lattes.

I had my first (iced) pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks this morning, and I have to admit that I was less than impressed with it. There was just something off about the pumpkin flavor. It tasted fake-spicy and not really pumpkin-y. Of course, I drank it (I’m not going to waste $4), but I’m not sure I’ll order another one anytime soon.

With pumpkin spice latte in hand, Murphy and I hit the road to drive to my sister’s house. The pug is spending the long weekend with his favorite cousin, Batman.

When I arrived at my sister’s house, we took Murphy and Batman to a nearby park to run around for a little while.

I love seeing dogs run free. They look like they’re totally at peace with the world.

Happy Pug!

Now, I’m at home, chowing down a turkey and cheddar cheese sandwich as I blog, and then I need to start packing for Newport. Mal and I are leaving as soon as he gets home from school. I am so psyched for this weekend!

Buffalo Wing Lasagna

My Buffalo Wing Lasagna recipe is live on the Pretzel Crisps website. I absolutely love this recipe. It’s not healthy at all, but it’s sure delicious! Please make it!

Question of the Day

What’s your favorite dish for fall? Feel free to share a link!

P.S. Check out who ended up on Boston.com yesterday!

  1. Ah so exciting you ended up there!! And it looks like Sarah is on there too!!

I love stir-frys for easy entertaining – simple, can be meat or non-meat and everyone usually likes them!

  2. I have to agree, the pumpkin is not quite right this year at Starbucks (and Dunkin Donuts is even worse so don’t do it!!!) but the Wawa pumpkin coffee is right on target. Do you have Wawa’s up that far? I don’t think you do. Well, if you make it down toward Philly again sometime this fall, you’ll have to try it. 🙂
And for entertaining, all my friends always ask for my gorilla bread. (It’s not really mine, I got it from the Food Network.) It’s always a hit!
    Have fun on your trip!!!

  3. Tina, I feel the same way about the pumpkin spice latte. And I thought I loved it! It was definitely lacking spice and flavor. The cinnamon dolce latte and salted caramel mocha are much better.

  4. I always feel the same way about Stabucks’ holiday/seasonal drinks!

I totally went out the first week Pumpkin Spice was back and had apparently forgotten that they are not THAT good. It is definitely all marketing/advertising and scarcity that makes you feel like you MUST have one.

The summer Coconut Mocha frapp, however 😉 Those actually ARE awesome!

But yeah, I usually just drink their brewed coffee, or a coffee light frap, or a skinny caramel machiatto – I find I don’t enjoy their other sweetened and flavoured lattes as much as they hype them up! Sorry Gingerbread, Creme Brulee, Salted Hot Chocolate, Eggnog, and Pumpkin Spice!

  5. I despise the mentality of “I’d rather drink a $4 smoothie that I don’t care for than waste $4.” Hello…if you don’t care for it, it’s wasted anyway.

  6. You’re pictures of the pumpkin spice latte sign made me so HAPPY! However, I have to agree with you- my two pumpkin spice lattes this season have tasted very… fake. I wouldn’t normally mind, but for $4/grande, you better BELIEVE I’ve started minding!

  7. Ok it’s not just me then. I felt the same way about the pumpkin spice latte. I felt it was off and fake tasting, not like it did last year at least. I was kind of disappointed.

  8. as much as a i love pumpkin things i have never liked the pumpkin spice latte from starbucks. i do love the pumpkin pie blizzard from dairy queen though which is back this month 🙂

so very jealous of your fall weather..we are still hanging out in the low 90s here.

  9. I love starbucks pumpkin lattes, but I find them to be 10x better when hot, vs. when iced. If you ever feel like giving it another go, try the hot version. Or go for the salted caramel mocha, which is one of my current faves. I’m obsessed..ha!

Murphy is adorable. Love those puppy park shots. 😀

  10. i may be the ONLY one in the blogging world with this opinion, but i can’t say i love the PSLs. they taste too artificially sweet for me, which is crazy because i have the largest sweet tooth (i could eat buttercream frosting by the spoonful), but, you’re right, something is off…

  11. I love making my turkey-vegetable soup. So hearty and warming, and awesome with a side of cornbread! Mmmm.

I am assuming Mal is a teacher…? If so, can you share what he teaches?

  12. My favorite fall dish is chicken and noodles and pumpkin pie. So good, and so easy to prepare. A few years back, I made mini pumpkin pies in little graham cracker crusts. They were AMAZING. I need to make them again, and this time, write the recipe down!

  13. I love seeing dogs run free too… definitely at peace with the world that’s for sure and total happiness. We could learn a thing or two from those guys!

I cannot believe we were Boston Dot Com…. I didn;t realize it was that sort of event… my Boss was like… ummmm whoa you’re on Boston Dot Com! He didn’t know I had a blog! I guess the secret is out now haha

Have a wonderful weekend and safe travels to you! 😀

  14. OMG!!! I so agree. I LOVE anything and everything pumpkin. I was so dispointed in my pumpkin spiced latte last weekend I couldn’t bare to drink it. I went to pore it out and it was bright orange. EEEWWW! Never again Starbucks : (

  15. i don’t know….but when pumpkin spice came back it was still toasty warm in california…my boss was buying and i couldn’t decide whether to try pumpkin spice iced or stick to my regular iced coffee. long story short, the clerk wouldn’t let me leave without trying it so she made me a sample…it was super delish! maybe because it was free, perhaps…does it taste fake? well, sheesh, it’s a syrup! hell-o!

  16. Oh my goodness! I am so glad you feel the same way about the Pumpkin Spiced Latte! I don’t get the hype either. That indescribable taste? I’m convinced it’s LIPSTICK. And I dont’ like to drink lipstick. 🙂

  17. i most definitely 100% agree about the pumpkin spice flavoring at ‘bucks! however if you are lucky enough to have a 16 handles yogurt in your ‘hood then you MUST try their fist pumpkin yogurt! it is the perfect amount of spicy goodness!

  18. I’m not a huge fan of the pumpkin spice either and I LOVE pumpkin. I guess I just can’t do it in my coffee.

Murphy is so ridiculously cute it makes me want to kidnap him and cuddle him – and I am NOT a dog person. Gah – how do you stand the cuteness?

  19. Speaking of pumpkin….have you had thomas pumpkin spice bagels or pepperidge farm pumpkin swirl bread?!?!? i just got some today and immediately had a slice. omg so good.
anyway i personally love pumpkin chili right now!!! i made it twice already and it hasnt even been fall that long! http://healthy-happy-whole.com/2011/08/25/kitchen-therapy-pantry-clean-out-pumpkin-chili/
just enough spice with a hunt of sweet! awesome with cornbread!!!!

  20. My mom makes the best sweet potato casserole for thanksgiving. Definitely one of my favorite dishes.

Have a great weekend in Newport! 🙂
