Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

Hey, local runner friends!

Check out what’s coming to Harvard Square again this spring: the Tory Row 5K!

FYI: I heard this race was an absolute blast last year! I’m so bummed I missed it!

My friend, Jayne, a fellow runner and Tory Row’s Events and Communications Manager, is planning the 5K again this year. She basically thought of everything she’d want as part of her ideal road race and incorporated these things into the 5K. The Tory Row 5K includes some sweet prizes and swag (including a tech shirt), chip timing, bag check, a post-race celebration with music, food, and free draft beer, and plenty of eco-friendly porto-potties. All the good stuff you want at race.

All proceeds from the event benefit an awesome local organization called Title IX Girls Running Club. It’s very similar to Girls on the Run, but based in Cambridge and focusing on all aspects of emotional health for girls 9-15 with a focus on running. (I dare you to watch the video on their site and not cry.)

To help promote the race, Jayne offered to giveaway a free entry to one lucky CNC reader!

To enter: Leave a comment on this post about why you’d like to run the Tory Row 5K. Earn an extra entry by posting this giveaway on Facebook or tweeting about it. (Just be sure to leave a second comment on this post with your post or tweet.) I’ll randomly pick a winner in the morning.

Good luck!

  1. I would LOVE to run this 5k. I had wanted to run it last year but couldn’t make it. It’s actually on the weekend of my 25th birthday this year so it would be a fabulous way to celebrate & say good bye to Cambridge before I move out of state for grad school!

  2. I’m a local South Shore girl, and have recently started running through the Ease Into 5k program, so this would be a great goal race for me! Currently, the other 5k I’m interested in isn’t until September, so I’d love an earlier goal race.

  3. This race sounds awesome! I’d live to run it because I’ve been searching for a few well organized 5ks to run in the warm weather. This is right up my alley!

  4. I’d like to run this race because I wish that someone had reached out to me when I was that age! I have zero hand eye coordination and it took me years to figure out that fitness doesn’t have to include throwing and catching a ball 🙂

  5. Tweet tweet: Brita ” @BritaKristine
Am I crazy enough to run 2 5Ks, @pugrescNewEng and the #ToryRow5K, back to back? Possibly. Probably. The 1st weekend of June will be EPIC.

  6. I’d like to run this 5k because I have been meaning to sign up for a 5k in the area to ease me back into running after being ill — what better 5k to run than one that benefits an awesome local non-profit!

  7. I almost signed up for this last year! i’d love to run it because i live in the area and love harvard squar, tory row included:)

  8. I’ve also heard wonderful reviews of this race, just like the restaurant! Thanks for sharing information about the great non-profit it benefits!

  9. I’m always up for a good endorphin rushing 5K-there needs to be no special reason for 3.1 miles but running the Tory Row 5K would be an EXTRA FUN 5K!

  10. This site was a major motivator for me to start running. I have a four month old baby, so I was a bit nervous about running post-partum, but I decided to give it a try. I just finished the couch potato to 5k training program and I’m dying to run a 5k. This one sounds so cool! I’ve always wanted to check out North East (I live in Northern Viriginia), and I think I can convince my husband that we need to take a quick trip up there so I can run this race! Hope I win!

  11. I’d love to run this race b/c I’ve been meaning to add shorter distance races back into my routine. After a hellish half marathon in July 2011, I haven’t run a race at all. I’m all about going the 5k route for a while!

  12. I just moved to the Harvard/Porter Square area and would love to run this local race so I could explore my local neighborhood!

  13. I recently just started running races, but my fiance and I are buying a house and he said I should not spend money on too many races! I would love to win!

  14. Sadly, I haven’t run a race since last summer because I’ve been too busy preparing for my comprehensive exams for graduate school. This would be a fun one to be my “comeback.”

  15. I’d love my first 5K to be a fun one like this. Plus, it’s a stone’s throw away from where I live!

  16. Lately, work and other obligations have put running on the back burner. A race is definitely the motivation that I need to get going again!

  17. Who wouldn’t want to run this race?! Plus, it’s the perfect motivation to run more than three times a week!

  18. I have found myself to recently be at my heaviest and NEED to get back in shape! I set a goal to run a 5k to do so, this would be a perfect oppurtunity for me to work towards my goal. You have to start somewhere right!?!?

  19. I’d like to win this because I just got back into running since high school. I have been trying to not be embarrassed about running outside around the really in shape people in Boston and so have stuck to the treadmill. Finally I have taken “the plunge” and am starting to run outside in this nice weather. I’d love to have this race to motivate me even more!

  20. I have just finished week 3 of couch to 5k and am looking for a fun 5k for when I have completed the 9 weeks and have some solid runs under my belt. This sounds perfect!

  21. I have seen ads for this race the last 2 years, but never was able to run it! I think it would be a great time! Also, I’m running the RnR half in D.C this weekend too!! I’m so excited!

  22. I would like to run this race for the great extras and the support it is offering to title IX – programs like these are so important to help girls gain the confidence that every girl and woman should have and what better way of building the mental strength than by building the physical strength and pumping endorphins at the same time!

  23. I tweeted this too! “Boston local runners check out @CarrotsNCake giveaway – an entry into the Tory row 5k this June – great cause fun time!
    carrotsncake.com/2012/03/enter-”¦” @nello33

  24. I’ve done longer distances, but I’ve actually never run a 5K before! I think it would be quite the challenge to try to run a “speedy race” as opposed to one for endurance!

  25. I’d like to run this 5k because I’m trying to improve my 5k times. I’ve got one in a few weeks, but I’m not signed up for any for awhile, so this would be some good motivation!

  26. I would love to run the Tory Row 5k this year, because I was signed up last year and had to bow out due to a hip injury. This year I’m in the clear, and am so looking forward to it!

  27. This is such an awesome cause – I was lucky because my schools always had cross country and track teams, which I loved being a part of and having a team with me. I would love to run the Tory Row 5k!

  28. This sounds super cool, and I’ll probably sign up if I don’t win. But I figured I’d try. 😉 Thanks for sharing!

  29. I am looking forward to this race! I’ve been scoping out late Spring / early Summer 5ks because I’m coordinating to run with my brother and his fiancé before they get married in July. It’ll be their first 5k race and I’m glad they’ll be able to not only run it together but with me alongside supporting them thru it!

  30. My husband and I used to live in Davis Square, but we moved to the South Shore right after Tory Row opened, so we never got to go there! I love any chance we have to get back to our old stomping grounds, so I would love to win this!

  31. I would love to do this as my first 5k! It’s for a great cause and would be a nice way to say bye to Harvard Sq after commencement. 🙂

  32. I’d love to run the Tory 5K because it’s on my birthday!! 🙂 What a great trip that would be to tour around Boston and get in a little exercise!
