Yesterday afternoon, Marie texted me to see if Mal and I wanted to have dinner with her and Dave at the Abington Ale House later that evening. They didn’t have any food in their house and they didn’t feel like grocery shopping, so they wanted to go out to dinner. Mal and I love the Abington Ale House and, of course, Dave and Marie, so we were game.

When we arrived at the Abington Ale House, I don’t think any of us expected to see this:

Or this?!

Creepy!

But fun!

Not surprisingly, much of our dinner conversation focused on things that frightened us, including the freaky decorations surrounding us and scary movies.

When it comes to scary movies, Mal and Dave said they like them all. Neither of them get scared easily. Marie said she doesn’t like scary movies at all because she hates being startled. I mostly don’t like scary movies because I also don’t like being startled, but I enjoy psychological thrillers, like Shutter Island and Source Code. (Ok, I liked Source Code mostly because of Jake Gyllenhaal.) Movies, like The Ring, however, scare the crap out of me. My sister gave The Ring rave reviews, so I watched it. It scared the hell out of me, and I was on edge for a solid week after that! Man, that movie was freaky.

Dinner

For dinner, we started with pretzels.

And beer.

I ordered a Shipyard Pumpkinhead with a cinnamon-sugar rim. It was so delicious. I love how the cinnamon-sugar compliments the flavor of the pumpkin. (Has anyone tried Shipyard’s Smashed Pumpkin? I just noticed it on their website. I want it!)

For my entrée, I ordered the French Onion Soup with a side of sweet potato fries.

Can we talk about this overflowing bowl?! Obviously, I was in cheese heaven.

Breakfast

This morning’s breakfast was banana oatmeal in a jar (OIAJ) with ground flaxseed meal and a glass of Godiva Caramel Pecan Bar iced coffee with soy milk.

Murphy knows what happens when I eat Oats in a Jar, so he stood by my feet as I ate. (I don’t normally stand when I eat. I was leaning on the kitchen counter eating and talking to Mal.)

As Murphy watched me eat, his eyes just got crazier and crazier.

Before he spazzed out, I gave Murphy the jar to lick. This pug has a serious peanut butter problem”” he’s worse than me!

  1. I used to love scary movies, but these days not so much. I find myself freaking out for a while after the movie, sometimes up to a month! Paranormal Activity scared me to death especially.

  2. Okay, a few things:
-I LOVE scary movies…alll of ’em! Can’t get enough of ’em 🙂
-Everything about your dinner last night looks amazing. Sweet potato fries and french onion soup are my jam. I actually was out over the weekend and ended up ordering sweet potato fries that were dusted with cinnamon and sugar. AMAZING!
-While I was out at said restaurant, I also ordered a Shipyard Pumpkin, but I don’t think it was the smashed pumpkin. I just checked it out on their website, though, and I need to try that ASAP!!

Have a great day, Tina 🙂

  3. Ahhhhh! I LOVE Abington Ale House! Their chicken pot pie is unreal… and so isn’t the Barret’s Haunted House (right behind the restaurant).

  4. I looove scary movies! Especially zombie movies. I actually met my husband at a showing of The Return of the Living Dead.
I never realized how odd/bad/weird that sounds until I just typed that haha.

  5. No! Both my boyfriend and I are big babies about scary movies, I’ve tried to watch them but it usually ends up that I cover my eyes through the whole thing and have no idea what happens!

  6. Yes! The Ring scared me so badly! I slept with the light on and I swear I woke up every single hour that night. Flies still kind of creep me out thanks to that movie. I think it’s the disturbing images first and foremost. But I’m with you on thriller movies, I like suspense!

  7. I am okay with scary movies. but am SUPER jumpy. I also occasionally do the whole haunted house type things.. like at six flags. I always want to do it.. but by the time we get to the entrance i am pissing my pants. I hate things jumping out at me. Sometimes I even start crying. They don’t jump out at you any less if you cry. I know from experience.

  8. LOVE scary movies!!

I remember I was in college when The Ring came out and my roommate and I decided to see the free midnight showing. Of course, it was a blustery, semi-stormy day and when the movie let out around 2am and we had to walk 1/2mile back to campus we were terrified. Every shadow, every person freaked us out. I’ve never been so happy to be back home as I was then!!

  9. French onion soup is one of my faves! That looks like a wonderful cheese topped bowl of deliciousness! I’ve never attempted making it at home. It’s on the to do list. And I CAN NOT Watch scary movies. I’ll have nightmares for weeks. Il lay in bed and start imagining noises in the other part of the house. I can still remember watching a scary movie when I was 10 and it scaring the bejeeses out of me!

  10. I am not a huge fan of scary movies, though I do like the more psychological ones. When The Boy travels for work, however, I stay FAAAAR away from scary/thriller-type movies. The one time he was out of town and I watched a scary TV show/movie, I had to sleep with the hallway light on..

  11. It depends on the type of scary movie, for me, and if I’m watching by myself! I’ve gone to the theatre alone to see a scary movie & left there really creeped out 🙂 Anyhow, I LOVE Shutter Island – the book & the movie are both excellent!

  12. LOVE scary movies. For a while, I felt like they were all so bad but I think they’re getting better now. So good that they are actually too scary for me but I still watch them 🙂

    Murphy is sooooooooooooooooooooooo cute.

  13. I adore the crazy eyes!! Too cute!

That place looks like a lot of fun and your dinner looks rocking!! yummmmmm french onion soup and sweet potato fries!!

I do love scary movies, but my boyfriend hates them… so I honestly haven’t seen any in like 3 years. I asked him to watch The Green Mile and even that was too much for him — I love him!

  14. Heck yes! I love scary movies! I Like the thrills and sitting on the edge of my seat. I’ll watch a scary movie and be freaked out for a few days then I’m ok.
Although I have to admit… I’m deathly afraid of E.T. That movie gives me the heeby jeebies. Lol

  15. I love those decorations! It’s so much fun seeing how people decorate for Halloween. I like scary movies, but I hate being scared, so I usually watch them with other people. That way I either have someone to grab onto during gory parts or someone to be scared with me lol.

    P.S.
Murphy’s crazy eyes crack me up!

  16. The sugar rim on the pumpkin beer is such a great idea. Move over margaritas:) I don’t like scary movies at all but I used to go see them in the theaters all the time in middle school… Darn peer pressure. I remember hiding under the seat once.

  17. LOL, love Murphy’s crazy eyes!

I admit, I love scary movies (and books). I prefer the startle-y ones in the theater, though, because it’s much more fun to have 30 people yelp at once!

  18. If I’m with a bunch of friends bundled up on a couch and I feel safe then I don’t mind them. They can be kind of fun to get into. But if I’m babysitting or alone at all, no way. And I don’t like gore but I like frightening movies.

  19. LOL I agree that movies like THE RING are twisted! B/c of my Korean background, movies and old tales like THE RING have always been the norm for me! I used to love ’em and listen to them all the time–but then as I got older, I realized it does nothing good for my mind, soul, and spirit! hah! So I decided to not watch those anymore, and now if I do see them even for a split second, I’m not as immune as I used to be and get startled more easily. 😛

  20. Loathe the startle guy-with-chainsaw-in-your-pantry kind of scary movies. Psychological thrillers where you’re never sure who’s a bad guy is okay, but those are VERY few and far between (good ones, anyway).

I am not a beer drinker but you almost have me sold on that pumpkin one with the cinnamon-sugar rim. That. Looks. Amazing!
