Destination DC

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Good morning!

I’m off to Washington, DC this morning. I’m taking part in a food-focused exploration of the city, sponsored by Foodbuzz and Destination DC.

Several weeks ago, Foodbuzz emailed their Tastemakers about a foodie tour with Destination DC and asked interested bloggers to apply for it. It sounded like a great opportunity and figured I had nothing to lose, so I applied and hoped for the best. A few weeks later, I was selected (along with two other bloggers) for the trip! Wahoo! I’m so glad that I applied! Obviously, I am psyched. So, that’s what I am doing in DC for the next few days.

[rewind to 6:15 this morning]

Mom, what’s this?

It looks like your suitcase”¦

Mom! You’re leaving me!!!

Poor Murphy didn’t want me to leave this morning. He followed me around the house with the most pathetic/bugged-out face all morning long. I told him I’d be back on Friday night, but he still seemed bummed.

Eventually, I had to say goodbye to the pug. Then, I grabbed my things, hopped in the car with Mal, and he drove me to the commuter rail. (Wasn’t I just there?)

Commuter rail —> South Station.

South Station —> Silver Line —> Airport.

At the airport, I flew through security (love that) and grabbed an iced latte. I didn’t sleep very well last night (due to my usual anxiety about missing my flight), so I definitely needed some caffeine this morning. Give me coffeeee!

Maybe I’m weird, but I love these tube-like sugar packets. They’re a lot more fun than rectangular sugar packets. Plus, they always remind me of my semester abroad in England, so that’s fun, too.

For breakfast, I ate a peanut butter and banana sandwich on toasted whole wheat (toast travels better than bread) with an iced non-fat latte with a packet of (fun) sugar mixed in.

Bored with the same old, same old at your health club? Joining a gym can be a fantastic way to get fit, but it’s not the only way: 10 Fun Ways to Get Fit Without a Gym.

We’re almost to DC. Stay tuned for some more adventures!

  1. his little face looks so sad! come here, murphy. hang out with us- bella and i will feed you chicken 🙂
hope you have an amazing trip! <3

  2. Awww…poor Murphy! Isn’t it funny that it is sometimes harder to say goodbye to our pets than our spouses?? I’m sure both of your boys will miss you Tina, but have a good time. You’ll be back home before you know it!

  3. I cannot get over how ridiculously cute Murphy is…especially with BUG eyes! I have never thought more about having a second dog than I do when I see daily pics of Murphy!

  4. How fun! And just think how happy Murphy will be on Friday night!
Once when I was leaving for a trip, our malamute jumped up, put his front paws around me and wouldn’t let go. Dogs rule!

  5. I’ve been following your blog for awhile and I just got stuck in Portsmouth NH on a military deployment until next week. Our plane had some engine problems. Anyway, I’m very sad that you’ll be in DC because I wanted to come explore Boston and was going to ask your for recommendations and to see if you wanted to do a blogger meet up! I’m the only girl on the deployment unfortunately. I still might think of going to Boston for the day. Any recommendations for a great gluten free restaurant/bakery?? Thanks!

  6. Our dogs HATE suitcases! Mason just barks & barks & barks at them. The hubby is busy packing for a boys’ trip to the All American Beer Fest in Denver this weekend. The dogs are going ca-razy!
    PS: Your wreath is cute!

  7. Love love love this city! I’m originally from Oregon, and this is the second most physically active city I’ve been to! And there’s so much to marvel at while you’re walking, jogging, or running!

    -So jealous
