Date Night in Harvard Square

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Date night is a big deal in our house. Mal and I talk about it all day long before it happens. If you were hanging out with us, you’d probably get annoyed because we chat non-stop about it. I guess we’re just really excited about a night out together. And, of course, yesterday was no different!

We also get all dressed up and pretty ourselves for our date. Yesterday, I even went out and bought a new top. It was just $10 at a consignment shop! Score! I also got my hair cut. What do you think of my new bangs?

Mal and I needed to pick up our race packets for the Ras on Sunday, so we decided to hit up Marathon Sports on Mass Avenue and then have dinner in Harvard Square. Two birds, one stone.

For dinner, Mal and I were in the mood for something light (we both ate a late lunch), so we picked Cambridge, 1 for their delicious flatbread pizzas and salads.

To start, we had a little fun with the beer menu. There were lots of fun ones that I wanted to try!

First, I ordered the Wolaver’s Organic Oatmeal Stout and then the Lagunitas Pils, which I absolutely loved. I pretty much love everything from Lagunitas. Mal does too, so we might plan a trip out to West coast to visit the brewery!

For dinner, I ordered the arugula salad with shaved Parmesan, extra virgin olive oil, and lemon juice. This salad will be recreated at home. It was excellent! So simple, yet so delicious!

Mal also shared a little bit of his pizza with me.

Clearly, we hated our meals! 😉

After dinner, we popped into Sweet to buy Murphy a Pupcake. Mal and I gave it to him when we got home, and he pretty much lost his pug mind with excitement.

Our evening concluded at the Grendel’s Den. I’m not sure Mal and I can go to Harvard Square without going there. It’s one of our favorites places. Good food, good beer, good vibe.

Mal and I found two seats at the bar and each ordered a drink. I ordered a glass of red wine, but I only drank a few sips of it. After drinking two strong beers at Cambridge, 1., I was good for the night.

Past date nights recaps:

  1. What a great night! I love date night! After you get married, you kind of need to force yourself to do it- otherwise it probably won’t happen.

  2. Wooo date night!! My boyfriend and I haven’t had one since my birthday in late January, so clearly we’re long overdue. I’ve got a fun one planned for next week, though! I love that you’re a beer girl like me 🙂

  3. Awww, Tina, what a pretty picture of you! All of your flatbread pizza shots lately are making me want to try to find some/make some very soon. My husband and I love having at home happy hour date nights. We usually pick out some nice cheese, baguette, and some other treats and it has become one of favorite date night meals.

  4. Love oatmeal stout but really love Lagunitas! My current fav of theirs is Brown Shugga’. Have you ever tried Three Floyd’s? I’m not sure if it’s made its way to the east coast yet or not, but they are my fav!

  5. Harvard Square light meal….Veggie Planet (where Club Passim is). Tight fit but the BEST veggie place – Awesome salads! I’m hooked!!!

It’s in the alley btwn the two Coops just across from the Starbucks next to Cambridge 1. Have you been there?

  6. Looks yummy! I hear arugula…you should try planting some now that you have a house…I did last summer and it’s pretty low maintenance and I had a ton of fresh arugula at my disposal all summer. 🙂

  7. That’s so cute that you have a date night! I’m single at the moment but whenever I do get married, date night is going to be a mandatory!

  8. I picked up my Ras shirt at Marathon last night too! I was going to shop as well, but the store was crowded from everyone else picking up. =)

Unfortunately, when I got home I found out my shirt had a hole. I’ll probably go to today’s pickup, see if I can get a replacement.

  9. Date nights are pretty much the highlight of our weeks! 🙂 We even get excited if it’s just staying in and watching a movie; something about having time carved out that is set apart for us and no distractions really makes it precious!

  10. Your top is really cute with your skinny jeans and heels. I need to go do some bargain shopping like that!

Now that my fiance is home from Afghanistan, I REALLY cherish date nights, even just laying on the couch watching movies together 🙂

  11. I love date night ”” And I think that will be one of the most important things to keep up when my fiance and I are married. It doesn’t always have to be wildly romantic, but just time together is a treat!

  12. I LOVE Oatmeal Stout! I just had one last weekend made somewhere in northern California and i wish I would have written down the name! Looks like you guys had a great date night…. how sweet!

  13. Love the top! I shop consignment all the time and some of my favorite things came from consignment shops. My favorite in Boston was Second Time Around.

Grendal’s Den is also one of my fave Harvard Sq hangouts. Whenever I’m in Boston I always make a pit stop 🙂
